re-sub! re-sub! re-sub! :D

3 years for me and still going strong with Iracing, havent raced much in the last year as I moved back to Australia but now I'm all set up with decent internet I can finally get stuck into a season

Definitely re-sub :D

Coming up to 5 years now, last sub was 2 years for $99 which makes it cheap enough imo that I don't care if I race or not each month. Not done any official races in a while but been doing a lot of the UKI Oval races which are really good fun, 20+ drivers for each one and some good close racing :)

Want to get back into official racing though, might just end up doing C/B class oval stuff as that's what I drive the most in the UKI races so getting quite familiar/happy with it.

Would love to get into this again, did a couple of months of racing before and it was fun if slightly terrifying (at the prospect of messing up big time) but I just don't know if I'd be able to put the time into practicing, plus I'd need to buy a lot of tracks...

...but the McLaren looks tempting and is there any word on whether the Lotus 49 is going to see the light of day sometime soon?

Yeah, Lotus 49, 'soon' :p

I gave up racing the radical for that, and that was 2 seasons ago and it still aint out :@

Anyway, it's not out today with the main update, they have hinted that it will be out sometime mid-season though so not a full 3-month wait, but then they also said it would be out 6 months ago, so I'm not holding my breath right now, hope it is out though, I will be racing that car, loved GPL.

This is a few laps of a race I did a few weeks ago. It's a battle for around tenth place at the time. But it shows that once you get out if rookie class the races are about as clean as you can get online. Plus the McLaren looks and sounds great.

Anyone racing in the UK&I McLaren Season. I've done the last 2 UK&I Radical seasons and they have been great. Come on, jump in

Would love to race UKI on Tuesdays, but is the only no go night for me I cant race, always spend it with the mrs :(

Got the Mp4 the other week though did my first bit of driving of it this week at road atlanta, did pretty good in it, was able to do 1:20.4 and hold 1:21's -1.22's with race fuel on. Great car imo one of the best on the series.

Fast but not to fast.

I paid $59

I'm currently driving the McLaren in the GT and Grand-AM, depending on whether I own and/or like the track that week.

I've been practicing in this whats your ingame name ? I'm going to be running the Mp4 next season as my main car, with the radical as my second series if it gets going in S2. With the Mx5 as usual my fun car to drive where I just turn up and race the back side off her.

Second evening practicing today and getting much better. I can't seem to skid the car off like I used to and I have checked that driving aids aren't on! Maybe I'm just getting the feel of the cars lol.

I haven't taken part in any races today after yesterday's disaster, but how does qualifying work? They seem to be every 5 mins and I did a qualifier to see how I stacked up but it was just me around the track and I couldn't see any comparisons to others? Given there are qualifiers every 5 mins how do grid positions get placed in races?

Also people talk about official and not official races (as mentioned in a post a few above). I thought all the series races were official? Or are there certain official races now and again which are different to the hourly ones?

Ok, so official vs unofficial and qualifying, long post ahoy :p

Firstly a bit about what official 'means', so there are official series run by iRacing and including championships with 10 divisions, there are also unofficial series run by iRacing such as the '24 heures du fun' and 'carburetor cup' and there are also hosted sessions and leagues run by individuals which are all unofficial.

Official races are the only ones that affect your Safety Rating (SR), iRating (IR) and Time-trial rating (ttRating), all unofficial sessions don't affect these however the sporting code is still in effect so you can be protested/suspended/banned for things like swearing on voice comms etc.

The iRacing official series (of which there are many) run 4 seasons a year, consisting of 12 official weeks and week 13 (e.g. this week), Week 13 does technically contain 2 official series but just stay away from them, it's a mess, you will not gain SR.

During the normal 12 weeks of the season the series run either every hour, 2 hour or 4 hours depending how popular they are, all of these time slots are official races, if enough people turn up to race. For each series, based on the 'class' of the series there are a minimum number of drivers for the race to turn official, if you check the bar at the top of the in-game session for a race it will say either official or unofficial race, if it's unofficial due to numbers then SR does still count but at a reduced rate, IR doesn't count.

For each official series there are also various sessions other than races:
Open Practice - run constantly, allow you to practice with others, no SR or IR
Qualifying - run every so often, usually hourly I thought?, no IR or ttRating but SR does count at a reduced rate.
Time Trials - run every few minutes, solo sessions, no IR, ttRating counts and SR counts at a reduced rate.

In Qualifying it will either be just you on the track for oval sessions, or if you were the only one to sign up to that session, otherwise if multiple people sign up for a road session then you'll all be on track at the same time. Any time set in qualifying is persistent across that entire week, so you could set a time on Tuesday morning and race on Friday evening and your grid slot would be dependant on the time set on Tuesday.

In order to see your position in qualifying for the week you can select the race series, then in the bar on the website for the series (the one that shows the car/track etc) underneath the series logo are a series of links, click on stats, then on the qualifying tab of the new page, and probably you'll also want to change the divisions filter to All, it will then list your position just above the table with a link to see the page of results containing your time.

So I am :d didnt realise that was you, next time I see you online in teh Mp4 I shall join you.

Also any new guys If you want a bit of coaching and help with getting Iracing setup and running nicely, Ie help with a good FOV, wheel settings etc etc hola at me.

Think I've made myself the MX5 coach on OCUK in the past and would be help to do it again.

Following on from what SKILL said, my only thing to add would be dont try and race to fast, Join some practice servers and just get used to driving with other people. Get the feeling for the car at race pace and in traffic.

Take small steps with Iracing don't rush to fast. It will become frustrating else. Remeber also most the guys you racing are huge motorsports fans with lots of them doing track days, or being real life race car drivers from novices to professional racers, The level of the competition is the strongest I've found in any race game.

Most other games I play I can easily become very fast very fast. Normally winning most races I enter. Compare that to I-racing where my first Season racing at C class in the radical, my only goal was to finish the race and not get lapped by our very Own Skill.

I managed to hit that goal. Improving race by race.

My goal in any race I enter is too finish the race, not take anyone out, avoid being taken out and try not to go off or spin. Even that can be a major challenge, especially when the GT and Grand AM races are 45 minutes long. It's a long time to concentrate for, I swear sometimes I don't blink more than once a minute.

I've been sat at 4.99 SR for weeks now, been aiming to keep my average incidents below 3. Very satisfying to win or get a podium with 0 incidents. Still not managed that 5 in a row award though!

@Totality
Thats some of the best advice you can get in I-racing or any form of racing.
Its one of motor racing's best known quotes. "To finish first, first you must finish" You will not win a race at T1 only loose it.

It's how I approached it and most decent people do, I still 13 months into my sub have my main goal as the bold text. Just my first season in the Radical, i added into it to not get lapped by both skill and another oucker Gravey.

Seeing as I have the day off and I like to give back to the I-racing community, I got so much help from them at the start and still do to this day. Heres some I-racing tips tricks, info I know and wish I knew at the start. bare with me and my english isnt the best and this is all just stuff im plucking straight from my head and writting down as it comes to me. (If i confuse you with anything just ask and ill explain it better)

First thing get your FOV right. as an example I use around 77 with most cars
I've settled around this figure. As a trade off against sense of speed, and situational awareness. I was using 68 for the Radical and 70 for everything else up until a few weeks ago. This is much more accurate and i can hit every apex. But it just lost all sense of speed for me, I couldn't see the other car when side by side in bends.

next get your wheel calibrated and forcefeedback set up correctly. I cant stress how important this part is, slightly wrong and you are missing out on all the tiny hints Iracing is sending to you wheel. I have just purchased a new wheel and finally spent the time getting it setup perfect, It didn't actually take that long an hour or two. But the difference now is amazing. Before all I could real feel in the wheel was oversteer. Now I have the force and weight correct I can literally feel what all 4 wheels are doing. The steering goes light as you oversteer the front wheel inducing understeer. It tries to pull the wheel out my hand when oversteering. when going over hills you can feel the car become light and then regain balance after the suspension as settled, so I know when to and when not to press the "LOUD" pedal.

Ghost racing iracing has a super feature called ghost racing, you can join any offical race as a ghost, and join in any race, you can not interact with the offical racers or communicate with them, but it is a brilliant way to learn some race craft. Trust me when I say this outside rookie, the racing you come across will blow your mind. To get the most out of this you will need to learn how to drive the car at race pace with a full pack around you.

This is very hard to do when you are worried about saftey rating spoiling other peoples racing etc. It will allow you to learn how to follow people. To learn that you will have to adjust braking zones, in ghost mode it doesn't matter if you get this a bit wrong and plow into the back of someone, all you will do is drive straight through there car.

You are aerodynamically effected by the official racers, so you will get the draft on the straights and you will also suffer understeer when following someone. Learn how this effects each car at different bends in a safe place where you are no harm to anyone or your safety rating.

You can also practice your overtaking in braking zones using the ghost feature without hurting anyone, if you overcook it slightly, something else I recommend to learn, when i drive a track once I'm up to pace with it I do laps of just driving offline in every bend. This gives me a feel of what the cars going to feel like and act when I'm overtaking or being overtaken and off the optimal race line. Dont just drive like a robot and run the same line all week in practice, experiment.

PRESS CAPS LOCK key i think it is by default to bring up timings. Iracing as a brilliant lapper system built into the game. You can see fastest lap, sector overall and per session. Don't base everything on best lap, most the time i use the session sector screen, this way you can see exactly where you gain and loose over a lap, when you hit a new line that is faster you will see it straight away on the lapper overlay, fastest lap just gets you into bad habits of playing catch up all lap, and it doesn't really tell you about where you are up or down in bends.

START FROM THE PITS in rookie, I still do this now when I race the MX5 and have not qualified. You only loose around 6 second starting from the pits and those 6 seconds allow the t1 Heros to run each other off the track. By the end of lap two in a MX5 race I've overtook half the field. Due to them running into each other. Specially at first when you will be racing in the lower splits.

You be racing alongside other rookies who will do crazy things. Just remember position means nothing until you are at Class D its all about gaining a good safety rating. If you drive safe you will gain a decent Irating anyway. You don't want a high one off the bat or you be racing the really fast guys. You want to be racing guys around your pace.

Ermmm what else, AA remember you get free Iracing credit for just taking part complete any series running 8 of the 12 events and you will get $5 i think it is. To use how you please, for each series you enter you will get $5 just for taking part. So each season Iracing basically give you a free car for taking part if you use this and all the promotions correctly its not as expensive as everyone thinks. Buy items in sets of 6 giving you a 20-25% discount. Buy Iracing credits when they do $100 when you credit 75% then add 6 items to your cart and get a further $25 off.

Ask us before you make purchases some of the cars will not suit you and will just sit in your garage making you regretting that $11.95 aka the Jetta :( how I hate you.

one purchase I recommend to everyone is Oulten Park one because its some of the best tarmac layed anywhere in the world. But it also comes with every single layout, each one really changing the flow of the track. It also suits every car on the service. The smaller layouts are really great for the smaller cars the longer faster layouts like International the GT and formula class of cars are right at home.

The amount of times i find myself loading Iracing for a race and end up running TEST mode at Oulten Park In either the Mx5, Radical or Lotus 79 around it. Its such an intense lap and just seems to bring out the best in every car.

Also don't be afraid to ask for help. The idiots on Iracing run at a tiny minority everyone is willing to help really. People will even watch you run laps and give you tips if you ask in the forums. Gravey an OCUK member helped me no end at the start of this, and Skill helped me find some speed. By me just following him when I saw him online and learning new lines. I even asked him to watch me run a few laps once or twice which he was happy to do.

Learn setups once you are up to speed just the basics and share them on the forums, one you learn what the car does you can learn how to get it to drive how you want, The base setups are very good though. I use it on every track for the mx5. Past the mx5 download a few sets for each car and find something that you like and feel good pushing at a decent race pace.

Don't try and drive the alien setups at first they are setup to bend the laws of physics. Just ask for a balanced setup on there or HERE I'm sure everyone will be happy to help. Then just tweak that for each weeks track.

Once you have a setup your are happy with share it. I did this with SKILL once at Suzuka i think it was in the radical, this way you can find out how fast the setup really is. The feedback he came back with for me also helped me build an even better base.

I'm sure theres loads more and Ill list it as it comes to me.

I-racing is not perfect but at this current time its the closest we have. It does a brilliant job of simulating a proper Motorsport series and as near bang on physics if you forgot about some of the weirdness This will only get better with time each build that comes 4 times a year makes the sim better and better getting closer and closer to a real tire model. Theres a guy on the forum who drove a GT3 Audi in Grand AM a few weeks ago and used Iracing To practice the car and track. he gives a fantastic write up of how a GT3 car feels In real life compared to the Iracing version 99% of it is very good, and he highly praised how it got him ready for the race and how the real life car compares. This is the car he drove in Grand Am for a race team so he knows what hes talking about

Final thought.
Above everything have fun Remember Iracing is a hobby on one hand it can be expensive if you look at it at just being a standard game but thats not what you are getting and the quality of the conent is second to known. I'd spend every single penny of it again without thinking. Well everything but that Jetta purchase.

If you see anyone from this part of the world fear them. They bleed blue.

F3 Key how did I forget about that, if you do not known what this key does and how to read it, then you are a danger to yourself and everyone else in every race you enter.
As the spotter is very basic still and team functions are not in the build till today its the only way to get info about whats going on, on track and around you.

Also Enable Voice chat a large amount of people use mics when racing. You can physically talk to a guy about to lap you and tell him where and what side to pass you at the press of one button.

Note that you can set the audio up so that you get voice and spotter transmissions through your headphones and the rest of the games audio through your speakers.

I didnt know you could do that got a link to how to set it up. At the moment i use headphones for all sounds and a seperate desktop mic. Which headset do you use be a nice way to seperate the chatter to it own channel. Use my amp and speakers for car sounds. That would be mint. How does one do it.
