iRacing

Yeah, if you get a 4.0 SR.

I got out of Rookie within a week of starting to play again.

I didn't mean license promotions.

I'm currently in division 6 for the Grand AM Series, whereas Spills is in division 4.

Do you stay in the division you start in or do you go up into higher divisions as you get better?

Divisions are set at the start or after a couple of weeks of the season, then fixed for the duration of the season, so if you're iRating is now closer to Spils then next season you're likely to be in the same division but not before then.

I did my first race in the Radical last night, its a pretty easy track at the minute so loads of really close racing. I was side by side with someone for two laps, it was intense. Great racing, I don't think I'll be able to drive that car on other tracks though.

I've been doing some practice in the Radical at the Watkins Glen track for this week. It's the first time I've practiced on the current weeks track and be able to keep it on the track. Might be temped by a race later on this week.

I'm now approaching my second month in sim racing and still enjoying it (which is unusual for me!). Since starting I have moved on from the G27 and have had the T500RS for a month. It is missing a shifter so I use the paddles and I also find the pedals to be good, but not great. The wheel itself though is great.

As a next upgrade, would people say a TH8RS shifter for the T500RS or Clubsport V2 pedals would be best? Murray, I think you have the pedals? Would you say a shifter or the v2 is the way to go? I don't particularly miss the shifter, but am afraid of becoming too used to not using a clutch. I don't really miss the shifter though tbh :p I'm leaning more towards the V2 pedals as the load cell would make consistency and feel a lot better.

I practically live in my Obutto R3volution cockpit these days. It's great!

It really depends on what you plan on driving and such. I couldn't drive the Lotus without a shifter now as it feels so wrong using the paddles :p

I have the CSR Elite pedals but not the clubsport v2 pedals. The load cell is well worth getting though which they both have. Although I think you can get a load cell mod for the T500RS pedals.

Both seem like luxury items to me. The T500 pedals, particularly with a brake mod (either the included one or a stiffer one using skateboard truck bushings), are good enough to be quick. The ClubSports might help a bit, but you can probably adjust the T500 pedals to your preferred feel just as well. Plus there is an official load cell coming soon if you really want that.

And you don't need a shifter to enjoy the clutch - you can still do it on the paddles - but this feels a bit weird in the older cars. Depends what cars you like driving regularly - if you like driving in Power & Glory just for pleasure then you'll get a lot of value out of a TH8, but it won't make you faster, but maybe more consistent and more immersed.

The TH8 is a good sequential shifter too though... and can be used as a handbrake for rally games... so it's more of a multi-purpose upgrade. I'd choose the TH8.

As I said in the other thread, the TH8 is mint.

I'm actually considering getting a second one so I have one set as a sequential and one as an H pattern.

I believe Thrustmaster will be releasing their own load cell mod for the T500 pedals. But ultimately I want the top end Club Sport pedal set and eventually the Club Sport wheel base and BMW rim.

And a rSEAT cockpit.

And a triple screen set up.

And a button box.

And a rev counter.

And all the other kit I've seen.

I think triple screens is one of the best things for improving the experience. I can't drive without them now, it feels terrible :p

Hey chaps,

To those who have played this and pCars - which do you prefer?

Also, how is the multiplayer on iRacing? I like playing racing games online (such as F1) but everyone on there turns it into a game of bumper cars/mario kart.

Consequently, i'm looking at giving iRacing a try with my G27 wheel.

Cheers,

David

I prefer iRacing but pCars is still early in development.

You find any better online racing that iRacing. Its the cleanest driving you are ever going to get in a game unless you sign up for private leagues. You need to be quite dedicated to get good at it though as it isn't easy. It also costs a bit once you start getting into it.

IRacing is better online than any race sim. Unless you play on private severs then nothing else comes close. I'm not saying you don't get idiots in iRacing, because you will always get someone who does a Sergio Perez and throws on rip the inside and expects you to jump out of the way. But you certainly don't get the deliberate rammers and wreckers you get in public servers for all other racing sims.

Thanks for that, much appreciated. Do you have to spend a lot on top of the monthly subscription?
