The Orange/Yellow strips are little bits on each car that show the licence level of the driver:
Red = Rookie
Orange = D
Yellow = C
Green = B
Blue = A

(iirc)

I did not know this at all. :p To be honest, I'm not very good but I can actually stay on the track which more than most of the people in the mazda cup. :D

When does the new season start? I feel like playing this game again but I don't know if now is a good time to renew my subscription. I'll probably need a load of tracks and if there's a new season soon then I guess it's best to wait until then? I'll be buying the ruf and will race in that when I do renew :-).

I have the star mazda and hpd car but I didn't really enjoy racing in them much.

It is the penultimate week this week, so it will be the 22nd.

The star Mazda is supposed to be a lot better since it's been put onto the new tires.

What license do you have? I don't like the RUF, not in C-Spec form anyway.

It's not the oversteer I dislike, it's the god awful brakes. I just can't trail brake the C-Spec and it kills me on circuits with a hairpin.

On the RUF C spec stick your brake bias as far forward as it will go and never trail brake with the car it will catch you out every single time. I have tried to tame the car myself and find it a nightmare to drive.

I was going to enter the C-spec series this season but gave it a pass. I have tamed the Lotus 79, The Radical, The RUF GT3, the MX5, the SRF. But for the life of me I can not drive that C-spec no matter what I do under braking the bank end just becomes all loose and wants to become part of the front end.

If the real CUP car handles that bad ill eat my hat, IMO theres something not quite right with the car or the NTM5.

Wow that's great that the new season starts so soon. If I remember correctly I got myself up to the A license. My I rating is terrible though because all I focused on was getting my A license. I think it's been nearly 2 years since I played so I guess the cars have changed drastically.

Your doing it wrong Andy forget about SR don't be a douche obviously but just enjoy the game I used to be obsessed with my IR and SR now I just go with the flow. If you are a good clean driver it will naturally progress.

People who tend to Farm SR get to the higher class and just cant compete. My friend as just done this. He may have an A licence but he has the racecraft and speed of a D class driver at best.

Yeah, at first i thought that beating drivers in a higher license was some sort of achievement, like a FA Cup giant killer or something, but it really counts for very little, when it feels like it should mean more.

What annoys me is the SR rating is flawed, you get a x4 if someone slams on the brakes for no reason (other than "believe it or not, my cat walked right across the screen") and apparently im equally at fault for that, about 100 yards before a light brake & coast corner. Likewise someone can divebomb you, x4 you, and carry on racing while your race is ruined with wrecked car and theres no repercussion for the person driving ignorantly and carelessly.

The SR is a farce, it has very limited impact in stopping bad drivers getting into the higher tiers, and iRacing dont care about bad/irresponsible drivers.

The best you can hope for is improving your IR, racing in split sessions and hoping that those you're racing against arent dangerous. The problem is you also get fast drivers who have superiority complexes, and make aggressive and often impatient moves. When i did the Zandvoort races which was my first time out, i just followed, i didnt feel confident in challenging and wanted to let others scrap and take each other out. I made plenty of places from this, i probably lost a fair chunk of time but it wasnt my goal, i wanted to learn from it and get races under my belt, and if a clear opportunity came i'd take it.

The problems always seem to stem from people believing they're faster than the person in front (whether true or not), and being too eager to make a pass. More often than not, if i can tell someone is faster than me, and we're not particularly close to the finish, i'd much rather let them go. I wish there were more people with this attitude personally. I've always felt that im better off letting a faster driver go and not drive defensive and slower, because you run the risk of others closing in and passing you. I'd rather give them the position, and get back to my rhythm and push at my pace with my focus being ahead, not all around me, wondering if im going to get punted or something.
Obviously if were of the same pace, or i think i can go faster and hold them off, i'll do that, but i do whats best for me, and if that means letting someone go, i'll do that no problem, hopefully they'll make a mistake and i'll get past, if not then its no big deal.
Too many people want to fight the fights they cant win, think whether its lap 1 or the final lap, a position is a position. I'd rather focus on doing whats best for me, and avoiding holding up people sufficiently faster than me is asking for them to make a bold move, and they rarely work out well for both parties.

Took another win in the Mx5 tonight at Road Atlanta. Also beat my PB in the RUF at Oaky with a 1:28 carrying race fuel aka 18.5 gallons. I was even pressuring some of the fast BMW drivers.

It seems if they cant point and slam the throttle in the ground most the sheep who jumped on the bandwagon cant drive it fast. Hilarious pressuring them into 1-2-4 or into 8 and 9 and watching them slam into a wall. Thats for the last 9 weeks you guys have had a clearly Overpowered car.

@ Paul if the guy is from Iberia or Brazil Give them all the space in the world. They all believe they are born again Ayrton Senna's or Alsono's better looking brother.

SR isnt perfect but its the best we have at the moment. I do wish they would ban it from TT's the amount of times I see people saying I'm TTing my way to A class etc.

We also all need to remember none of us are as good as we think and we are sim racers for a reason most believe its they didn't get a chance, or didn't have money backing them. Those who that actually is a valid argument is around 1% of I-racers.

I try to make a note of anyone I see who pulls moves like you say and get ready for it when we enter a breaking zone give them the inside laugh my head off as they out brake themselfs and burn in a tirewall.

I used to get really frustrated with it now I just shrug it off. I have little respect for the fast guys who drive like that. I have a lot for the guys you see lap afetr lap hitting .1-.2 of there race PB finish the race with 0inc and have repsect as they pass the back markers...

The only real hate I have is people who fail to qualify start from the back of the grid then try and barge there way through the grid and expect everyone to move out there way because there 1 second alap faster than the guy infront. Tough **** mate qualifyings there for a reason. Its not hard to run one session a week to give you a decent grid slot.

IMO hate the player not the system.

Anyone planning on doing the next Road Warrior race (25th-27th), GT3 @ Spa 2.4hr race?

I dont have the track, but as i'll need iirc 8 for 2014.3 im thinking i might just add this to the list.

I loved the 70min race @ Zandvoort, and while i dont think ive done a race this long, ive certainly done 3+ hours of stint testing in LFS for endurance racing, even though i didnt do the endurance races, its just more fun for those who need to do it if theres people doing it with them, so it makes something dull a bit more enjoyable.

They're also trying to get the staff to increase the participation limit to 60 cars, rather than 33. Im assuming its achievable, using both sets of pitlanes presumably. Would be awesome though.

- edit -
ugh - just realised if i buy Spa and next seasons GT3 tracks, i cant buy Donington unless its sold in Wk13, and i also cant practice it till then :(
Might just do 6 + 3/6 later, just buy the first load of tracks i'll need in GT3 & Skippy calendar.

Brands Hatch this week for the SRF.

What an amazing looking and feeling track, elevation changes, beautifully rendered and amazing racing.

Turn 1, wow, think I would puke with the Oculus Rift on that corner ;)

It's even more crazy IRL, feels like you're driving off a cliff or something! Done a few trackdays there, one time a car I was following lost the back end as we went round/down it and I have no idea how I avoided smashing into him - remains the scariest driving moment of my life :eek:

I generally find SR fine, although it did **** me over yesterday when somebody went into the back of me. I find it is accurate more times than it is wrong.

Well I'm really ******* annoyed, I couldn't even manage half the race distance. Started off me getting completely blocked after the guy in front of me went wide 'its a fight' was his response, what a joke. Next, for the 3rd race in a row, the game froze then went black while the game was running which made me go off. Has anybody else had this bug?. Next, I get rear ended and get the 4xs as you do. Finally, which was my mistake, I put a bit of wheel wide and spun off. I was already really annoyed at this point so I couldn't be bothered after that.

Sounds like the run of attempts i had at Brands Indy in GT3. :(
Drivers who are similar pace and make impatient attempts, and significantly slower drivers who insist on fighting for some lowly position, those are my current frustrations.
I've had races where i've known i could make a pass attempt and simply backed off, with 2/3 of the race still to go, simply because i dont believe im faster than them (5th/6th), so we'll just end up fighting for the position, getting 4x's and letting those behind us catch us. Id rather just hold position, and hope they make a mistake. Im not really one to make a move to push for a mistake though, maybe in some circumstances but not in general (ie for a win).

Likewise, when you make a mistake and lose a handful of places, and your pull back a 3sec gap in 1-2 laps, clearly faster than the guy infront, but he/she insists on being defensive making us even slower. If the shoe was on the other foot, i'd be leaving the door wide open the first attempt. Why obstruct your own race by going slower, trying to hold someone up when you're almost certainly going to finish behind them. So annoying, and when its because of a mistake (your own, or someone elses) it makes matters even worse.

As for the black-screen, its probably unrelated, but i actually had something which sounds *similar* on Monday morning. I was doing a qual run at Suzuka, and i'd just crossed the S/F line and my left monitor went off and back on, 3sec at a guess.
I've no idea what caused it. It was short enough that i dont think it was the monitor going into standby (dont recall seeing a msg, but then i was driving at the time) and as it was in eyefinity mode, its all 1 display as far as windows is concerned, although iRacing is set to render the outer 2 separately, but then why not both outer monitors go off & on?
No idea if its related, and dont recall it doing it before now, the only thing like that i have is due to DisplayPort incorrectly deciding theres no signal and shutting down the monitors after it in the daisy chain.

I've had the black screen issue a few times.

Am i correct in thinking that todays planned downtime is for the new update?

Im hoping they'll have the new tracks for sale, as i want to buy Spa ahead of this weekends 2.4h GT3 race, and get the first 5 tracks i dont own for that.

Im also thinking about doing the SRF next season, im just about done with the Skippy. The problem is going between the Z4 with its weight, its predictable balance, its nice/easy to drive. Then jumping back to the Skip and its lighter than air, ice-slide if you dont do everything perfect from corner entry to corner exit... its pure evil with 4 wheels.

I really want something that'll compliment the Z4, like the Ford GT or Corvette C6R, something that i can run alongside the GT3 series without it requiring me to acclimatise myself to the car each week. The SRF almost certainly isnt that car, but its free (which, when i still have a lot of tracks to buy, is fairly significant, im not paying only to find i dont like it much).

They've re-shuffled the old Endurance series which had the HPD, Corvette & Ford GT. I gather the Ford GT is being replaced by a future GT3-capable version, and the Endurance will be HPD, Riley Proto & Corvette.
I like the thought of the Riley, lower powered proto, should have decent grip & P/W ratio, and its in a more appealing series now too. But again, i've no idea if i'd like it or not. Probably isnt comparable to a Z4 either, more like the Radical.

My racing went really well over the weekend bar a race where the guy in front spin t-boned me and I got the contact from it. However my computer died yesterday and I think I need a new power supply. :(:(:(
