iRacing

Took a win at Oulten park in teh MX5 last night my fav track nearly didn't get chance to race but set the wheel up a few hours before the change over and got two races in...

Tried some laps at Oaky RUF seems ok there but still off the pace I managed a 28 on a baseline setup. T1-T2-T3 are a nightmare in the RUF and so are the last two bends the backend just wants to become the front unless your super careful. See the Z4's powering through there like its nothing :rolleyes: Really hope next season they sort the balance out its gone past being a joke now.

I've been racing in the Maxda Mx5 cup to try and get my Safety Rating up but always seem to end up getting taken out or something. I think from next season I going to try the Gran Touring Cup, still in the MX5 though. Does anybody have any experience with that?

Is it as bad as that?

I did a quick test run in the Z4 last night at Okayama and managed a 29.9 which I was pretty pleased with considering I dont really know the track and it is the first time I had driven the Z4.

It certainly can be, yeah. That said, my Zandvoort races were fantastic, never saw any issues, at Brands Indy i had 6 tries, 2 idiot take-outs, a car spin in-front (it'll happen in any series), a move i probably should have backed out of but got ran onto the grass under braking, a 2nd which was clean, and a win with no incidents.

Im just watching some Empty Box videos, and just got to the 70min Zandvoort race. Start grid and theres 5 cars covering 2 rows, incl 5th who started ahead of EB in 3rd! Low and behold, its my GT3 nemesis, Hanlin!
He was the guy responsible for the 2 takeouts mentioned above, who in his first 5 races at brands, took the leader out in 4 of them, well he ended up taking out 2nd in this Zandvoort race. He's such a terrible driver, makes really idiotic moves over and over, and doesnt seem to learn from any of it.

Its not a conclusive thing, and its hardly revolutionary to say it, but i suspect the lower your iRating, the more trouble you'll see. The problem is, the lower the standard, the more likely you'll get caught up in their mistake and suffer pace or positions from damage, which hurts your iR. Vicious circle.

As for Okayama in GT3, im really not a fan, theres no rhythm to it all, and so many slow no-grip corners which iRacing seriously fails at. Just makes for a track which you dont really enjoy as you dont feel like you're able to let the car go some. Its a shame, cos it being a track i know from my first mx5 week, i thought id be okay round there.
I've done 28.4, opt 27.7, but in a 1h practice earlier i managed 1-2 28.high laps, thats using a BH set, until someone shares something, it'll do.

Did a couple of races in the Mazda cup last night to bump my SR so I can get my B license, and I must say I really enjoyed it. I'm not sure what a lot of people are moaning about with the MX-5, if you treat it like the skippy it's fine.

I appreciate there are a few people on there who have actually raced the cup car in real life and say it's all wrong now, but I'm not one of them so am in no position to compare.

Doing a couple of seasons in the skippy has really helped both my car control and indirectly my speed.

The biggest problem I find with the Mx5 cup it getting taken out by people. But saying that I had a great race at Okayama yesterday, finished 2nd with 0xs. I could have tried to battle for 1st but I just wanted a clean race.

True, the starts are always carnage. I had exactly the same, managed to get into the lead on the first lap but the guy behind me was a lot quicker. I just let him past which was probably for the best as he was over a second a lap quicker. Still pretty happy with my average of about 1:53.

Looking at the forums last night and there's a new MX-5 section. Appears they're doing a class C open setup championship. Could be good.

It can be bad as it has attracted the worst drivers in the service as the GT cars are the easy to get around the track. Some of those people can be really impatient but in saying that when you get a good clean race it is a lot of fun

Just took that promo offer 2 years for the price of one. Didn't realize I still had another year and a half left on my subscription so now I'm paid up till November 2017 lol

Despite my current membership running out in January, I bought the discounted 2 year member ship. Now to get my SR above 4.00 for the start of the next season of the Gran Touring Cup.

I do and have done since I started I-racing its a very good series with all levels of skilled drivers and a lot of the same names each race. There's big grids and normally splits at peak times.

Its like MX5 CUP but without the wreckers and Rookies. You may still get wrecked as there's lots of Orange and Yellow strips in the races but its more a racing accident than full on retard, always qualify most people do and your be fine. The griding works well if you bother to qualify.

Great arrive and drive CUP that you can take as serious as you want. Me I just drive it solely for fun.

The best part about it is every race starts just before the MAZDA CUP finishes so the MAZDA CUP drivers cannot enter :D

Yes I heard this the other day myself. Brilliant news may even drop GT3 for it next season if they fail to balance the cars out and not make it PAYTOWIN which is exactly what it is at the moment.

As long as it's above 3.0 by the 28th you'll be promoted anyway :)
I'm already D license any way, I think you need a Sr of 4.00 to enter said cup.

Orange and Yellow strips??? What does this mean?

The Orange/Yellow strips are little bits on each car that show the licence level of the driver:
Red = Rookie
Orange = D
Yellow = C
Green = B
Blue = A

When does the new season start? I feel like playing this game again but I don't know if now is a good time to renew my subscription. I'll probably need a load of tracks and if there's a new season soon then I guess it's best to wait until then? I'll be buying the ruf and will race in that when I do renew :-).

I have the star mazda and hpd car but I didn't really enjoy racing in them much.
