It's playable, but I doubt you'd be competitive and you certainly wouldn't be able to race anyone wheel to wheel.

People have won division 1 championships (in slower cars like the mazda at least) using joypads, you can certainly be competitive and race wheel to wheel if you spend enough time practicing using a pad. Having said that its still obviously a far inferior option to a wheel in every single way (cost excluded).

I did the 2.4. The guy behind me ran in the back of me on the frigging pace lap which pretty much set the tone for a dismal race.

And now to top it off, my engine just blew in a straight line in a RUF Cup race at Summit Point

Nope and engine temp sat at 100c as usual. It went approaching turn 2 on lap 18 of both races. Really odd.

The only thing was that I spent both races 0.2-1.0 seconds from the car in front, but like I said the temp gauge never moved any higher.

From drafting in things like carb cup I've overheated before. Someone tested the RUF recently and out up the temp it overheats at.

Maybe step out the draft half way down the main straight?

Anyone here do the 24 hour race? Definitely a single mans event haha

I did a 10 hour race alone at Watkins Glen in a Mazda 787B with the GTP mod for NR2003 once, as our teammates took a more normal approach (both other cars split into 2 drivers as I remember, but I wanted to drive the Mazda that day). I eventually came 3rd as I remember. Never again though. It wasn't physically tiring as such, but the level of commitment and preparation you needed for such a long stint was something else. I did needed outside assistance (a brick) during a pitstop to stop the car rolling down the pitlane during a comfort break though!

We (VTR) are intending to make a brief comeback and enter the Road Warrior Daytona 24 hour race at the end of this month.

We used to do a load of endurance racing with the GTP mod (including several Le Mans 24 hour races), but after so long away from sim racing (5 years of any of us barely picking up a wheel) we're not going to be challenging for any decent result. We're treating it as a one-off reunion of sorts.

It seems we're going HPD (despite its fragility in crashes), so I renewed last night (hadn't been subscribed since 2013, yikes!) and put some laps in, getting down to the 36s, which felt like a decent opening pace (no idea what a strong pace is though). Need to bring the consistency up to scratch, but my plan has always been to run hard to find limits in testing, then back it off a notch on the day.

Might get a Twitch stream going, as we used to do a team radio broadcast, which some found fun. I remember one of our races (at Daytona too) where we were constantly taking the proverbial out of a newish Russian team, only to discover later that they had been listening to our radio broadcast all along. Still, they bucked their ideas up and became less of a liability, so perhaps it helped in the long run. :D

Will be buying one those wheels thats for sure it looks amazing. I should be more then happy with my CSR Elite but I always want more lol

Just got to buy a house first haha.

Friend of mine has ordered one, so I've had his CSW v1 from him. Just got to get a wheel for it but that Accuforce is definitely on the wish list!

Looks like a fun race :D

I just had a WSCS race at Daytona and was diddled out of 2nd by .025 of a second - I was drafting him all the way from the bus stop but not quite quick enough. I'll be glad to see the back of Daytona - the weather conditions meant that from about lap 15 the CSpecs tyres were fried. By the end of the race it's like wrestling on ice.

Just got my B-license (road). Any recommendations on a series to try?

Slightly annoying that you can't try the cars before you buy.
