iRacing

cheeky little vid up just before xmas...thanks for the support guys.

Apologies for the bad audio, clearing throat etc, suffering with a cold and a horrible sore throat.

Will give that a watch now Tony, love your videos.

Had a hugely frustrating few races this evening in the Ferrari 488 GT3 series. Qualified pole and got taken out in turn one by someone who just didn’t even want to brake at a sensible point. Second race, qualified 2nd and this time made it all the way in to turn 3 before some idiot decides to cover two racing lines and wipe me out.

After wasting 2 hours of my evening, I was about to give up but thought 3rd times a charm. Qualified 2nd and this time got to lap 3 before I made a stupid mistake myself and span under no pressure from anyone, luckily was about to get back on in 10th and made my way up the field and finished on the podium in 3rd. Hugely satisfying race, especially given I thought I’d thrown it all away.

Ready for promotion to Class C but going to try get my SR up to 4, shouldn’t be too difficult unless I have more evenings like tonight

Excellent mate, iracing can be incredibly frustrating at times, but on the other hand the racing can be absolutely exhilarating and so rewarding when you can stay clear of the idiots. You do learn to spot them after a while making race strategy and surviving easier. I lost 200ir the other day in 2 races and so much SR, absolutely murdered I was, i expect I've a ban waiting for me for my comms.

Can someone help me understand the incident system in this game and how/who should be punished?

The amount of times I’ve had people use the back of my car as a brake in corners and I get the 4x for it, or they just go full send and ram me off the track, and again, I get the 4x. Yet times when I expect to get the blame, like brushing the back of someone in a corner when they brake a bit harder or earlier than I expected, yet I get nothing, just the warning/0x.

It seems massively inconsistent and punishes the wrong person sometimes when there is nothing you can do to avoid the actions of idiots

If there is contact both parties receive incident points. The full list of incident point penalties is like this:

1x for going off track (1 or more wheels outside of track boundary - the edge of which varies from corner to corner, track to track. Use practice sessions to find out where the limits are without affecting your SR)
2x for losing control (spinning ~45 degrees to track direction)
4x for ANY heavy contact with another car/barrier.
There's also 0x for cases where the contact was light (eg. bump drafting or door to door) or netcode isn't certain there was contact due to lag. Treat this as a warning that you need to leave more space.

With regard to the 4x contacts, I get that it's really frustrating, especially when you get freight trained in to a corner you're braking perfectly for, but a no-fault system is the only workable solution without having a human race director which just isn't a workable solution.

Thanks mate, that makes a lot of sense. I just assumed one person is at fault (the 4x) and the other person not at fault. I didn’t know both people always get a 4x in heavy contact situations. Makes me feel a lot better about things :D

Bud thanks for this video... I love it.
Im actually subscribed to you but havent watched your vids recently, will make sure to do so!

I dont suppose you have a "settings" video? On your setup/assists etc on the car if any?

I only just went and won my first race, didn't I?!

Oh my god :D I'm still shaking. Ferrari Fixed at Watkins Glenn. Somehow qualified pole with a 1.47.01, which really surprised me. I was super nervous starting the pace lap as I've never started pole before so wasn't sure the best way to kick it off to keep my lead, but managed to get an excellent start and led in to the chicane. The two guys behind me were just going for it and I didn't want to risk blowing my race early so let them past, both went in two wide so I just stayed back and kept my distance as I knew there wasn't a chance they'd get through the race battling like that, and sure enough, on lap two, one got punted and the other went wide so I took my chance and led the race from that point. Finished the race with 0 incidents.

That last lap seemed to go on forever, sounds daft given "it's just a game" to some, but my heart was racing, genuinely felt so damn nervous and excited. Crossing that line was just amazing, I just sat there looking at my screen and the results for ages trying to take it in :D

Ah man :D so happy lol

EDIT - This is definitely going on the fridge :D

Fantastic isn't it, no other sim or racing game comes anywhere close to the levels of nerves and excitement. I've not won many, but biggest achievement was a 6 hour endurance race win with my mate, I was absolutely buzzing, the last few laps trying to fuel save to get the car home seeing the fee cars in front of us had to pit, then crawling over the line with a dry tank almost was absolutely insane, not sure if you saw that one, but video is up on my channel if you interested.

You need to record or stream some of these. ;)

This is why for me iracing is the best racing sim. It may not look the best but the multiplayer setup is the best. Sounds like a great first win good job buddy

Ha I've saved the replay. Going to do some editing and upload it tomorrow :D

Thanks mate, and absolutely agree

I had my first Formula Renault race earlier as well, been practising solo for a while but could never get the car to stay on track when really pushing. Was getting a comfortable 1.03 on the Red Bull Ring but seeing some of the splits I'd likely be in hitting 1.01's comfortably, I didn't think I'd be quick enough, and as I said, when I tried to really push, I could get in the 1.02 but more often than not, I'd make a stupid mistake and spin.

Signed up for a race anyway just for the experience, purposefully didn't qualify so not to get in anyones way on the off chance I didn't qualify last :p Started 15th out of 21 and somehow, had a stormer of a race and finished 5th. Managed some really decent low 1.02's consistently. I thought the pressure of keeping people behind me would make me slower and more prone to mistakes, but for once it really made me focus and came home to a nice 5th place finish. Probably the first race I've done for a while as well where people actually respected blue flags lol, in the Fixed Ferrari series, blue flags just get ignored by pretty much everyone

Really do like the Formula Renault cars though, surprisingly easy to drive, but very difficult to drive quickly, how these people do 1.00-1.01 average lap times, crazy

I'm so glad I made the choice to sign up to this game though. Just sticking to F1 was really making me question whether sim racing was for me, but I never thought I'd be good enough for iRacing. But since playing it, it's just made me love sim racing even more

Yes exactly, what settings you set on the Mazda, or is there some kind of vanilla setup when doing these races?

I've got my own tune for it just to get it rotating a little more, increased toe mainly. The car gets a little slippy on cold tyres but much more competitive as they warm.

Steam was currently showing this as a 29.99 purchase for one year then 109.99 after.

I hit the buy button but it's gone through as 109.99 I'm assuming because I had purchased previously when it first came out.

Anyone else had the same issue and if so what happened I guessing I'll just get refunded as not even installed yet?

There you go @TonyTurbo78 :p

It's a horrible video in terms mic quality, and somehow, I didn't realise that G Hub works with Yeti mics now and by default it applies a load of filters, one of which called De-Essing, has made it sound like I have a dry mouth or can't say my S's at all. Didn't discover that until after the fact though and didn't want to re-record the commentary.

Checklist after editing that -
1. Get Premier Pro, Rush doesn't cut it
2. Set my Fuji up as a webcam as my current webcam isn't great in low light
3. Be less awkward :D

Will also record/stream videos as I race, and not do replay commentary again, as it's hard to talk in past and present tense :p
