iRacing

Many thanks Skill. The dashboard seems really usefull, nice tip, thanks.

I have added it to my "Planned Races", does that mean anything other than a reminder for myself?

Also, the start times in the planner, will they be for the Race itself or the qualifying session? Do all sessions have a practice and when would that start? Sorry for too many questions.

First race here I come - WOOP.

Will be happy not to write off the car or anyone elses car :)

It's aimed as both a reminder and for other people to see that the race will get enough people in it, tbh I don't really use it both because I race in a series that has plenty of participation and I've also got a habit of just decided to race a few minutes before it starts :p

The time are for the races, there's a 5 minute connect/warmup period before all races.

As for practice/quali/tt's they're on the sessions page, so select the series at the top, click the sessions link and you'll get all the options there. Practices are open constantly, TT's are every 2 minutes or so, Qualifying every hour iirc and designed to finish not long before the race.

really loving this game i havent touched rf2 since i got it...

im D class now and i bought the skippy last night so im trying to master that, you was right SKILL it is similar to the spec racer very tail happy when you put the power on...

Has a Karting series ever been spoken of in iRacing?

Also, I REALLY would like to get a TrackIR 5, do they add much to the iRacing experience?

been spoken of, think they've even scanned a kart and/or some karting tracks, but it's on the back-burner like dirt (both ovals and rally style stages have been contemplated).

Essentially what they're attempting to do is re-work the engine 'right', eg by formulae rather than 'fudging', but this is a bit of a long process, starting with the 'New Tyre Model', once that's 'complete' then the work from that extends into doing the surface model correctly, which then leads into other surfaces like dirt and proper weather etc.

Kart's would require quite specialist chassis physics presumably (iirc most/all carts work with a fixed axle and chassis flex?)

As for TrackIR5, not tried it personally but my mate has and didn't really get on with it, others swear by it. I went the triple monitor route, more expensive but is pretty damn awesome :D

I've been playing iracing off and on for a long time and its really good fun. The problem is just how expensive it is. I've been stuck as a D class forever because I need to spend somewhere in the region of £70 to unlock the tracks i would need for the D class championship events, add the subscription fees on top of that and its a bit crazy.

Recently started playing again because of the 3 month deal and going to eyefinity its awesome, but unfortunately will still be stuck in D class forever it seems. :(

i leveled up to class d by getting 4.0 safety rating, so now im at d class with 3.55 safety rating, if i get to 4.0 again will i go to c class???

Yep as long as you meet your MPR requirements. (4 Class D races or time trials)

You could technically buy one class D car and the current class D track. Do 4 time trials to get your MPR then get your safety rating up in the rookie class. However then you would be class C in the same position. Unfortunately, you do have to spend money to progress.

I was unaware you could do that, I thought you needed to have all the content to enter the championship in order to compete in the time trials?

edit: Yes you're right just had a look, thanks never knew that

ill just buy a track each week and stick too 1 or 2 series keep the costs down...

Remember you get discounts for 3 or 6 items, so it's worth buying at least that much in one go imo.

At D4.0 you can enter C class series :)

This, if you just want to level up your licence the cheapest way would be to:
Race the free/rookie cars until you get to D4.0, then get the C class car effectively skipping D class altogether, then you can do the same and use the C class car to get to B4.0 to race the A class stuff.

wow im hating the skip barber car, does star mazda handle the same???

i cant carry the speed through the corners yet to keep the grip...

so if i get to d.40 and buy a star mazda can i use this car to get the c class???

Nope, Star Mazda is completely different, first proper downforce car, personally not a fan in the slightest but it is very very different to the skippy so you may like it :)

Your second line seems to imply you think the skippy has downforce? it doesn't, the wings are basically visual only (seem to remember seeing pictures that they'd removed them in some series, although that looked odd) all the speed comes from the mechanical grip.

But yes, if you get to D4.0 you can run the star mazda in TT's or Races to get your C class licence, essentially the MPR is anything 'your level and above' so at D class both D and C class races/TT's count...
