iRacing

Yep!

I've been a member since the start, 4-5 years, and yet I still didn't realise to progress you had to do 4 official sessions in your current class! :o

I was happy driving around in the Mazda Cup but that's not D!

pmsl..

man i was so happy to get out of the rookies, but there wasnt owt in d class that i really like then jumped in the star mazda and thought yeah this is better, i thought to myself that radical looks like fun so took that for a spin and instantly knew thats the car i wanted to be racing.

ive not looked back since...

Il do some races today starting just from the pits ( so that means skip qualifying i take it ) .

Just let the grid timer run down until you see 'missed grid' message then join.

It's good practise to work your way through the pack and you're guaranteed to miss any T1 and T2 shenanigans!

Aim for a consistent lap time and stick to it until you're comfortable to raise your bar, Rookie days are about being safe and consistent and it's not as boring as you may think because in doing so results will come your way.

There will be people dropping out and your SR will thank you for not being one of them.

Have you tried using your mouse to untick if nothing else works? If you come in for a second time they will be ticked again. I usually untick them all just after I grid at the start of the race.

Edit: Default key for tick/untick should be space bar and you can cycle through the tyres with up and down arrow keys.

Cheers man :) space bar ftw :)

I know... I even have a founding member cert!

My problem is I really like the MX5 and as with you I never liked any of the D class series. I also have the habit of subbing for 3 months and then vanishing for a few, I did a full year in 2008 but since then it's been on and off.

dont you get a free repair in rookie races???

yeah you should be able to uncheck the boxes for tyres and fuel..

id just start from the pits and let all the muppets go about there business, let them go by you anything just to get out of the rookies...

To start from the grid in races i assume you just dont click that grid button when it appears ?

EDIT just read your post @11.16 Gravy :P

yeah d is lame unless you like the skippy...

ive subbed for a year as i love this sim/game theres just no other racing like it...

wheel to wheel racing on here is the best ive ever experienced...

its a whole package...

Is the MX5 a car that like a rough or a smooth driver :) as i would class myself as rough ........

MX5 is a momentum car, so usually the slower it feels the faster you go. Don't attack corners that will force you to break hard. You need to break early to carry more speed through the corner as acceleration is slow.

im a roughish driver i think as you need to be in the radical, i do loose the back end in the mx5 abit so i would say more a smooth driver than rough..

my moto is drive it like you stole it...works well for me...

yesterday a had a terrible race and lost -66 in 1 race yet if you do TT u like get around +8

trust me you can loose that much in tt aswell, but you cant gain much if you gained 08 thats good...

First Race in Radical is turning out to be a bit of a disaster. Did not start to badly and had a nice overtake coming out of the carousel. Then however my one daughter started nagging me for something and in the end I just pressed escaped to help her. That obvious cost me time and then just as I got going the other daughter started asking all sorts of questions about the car. I ended up spinning into a wall, and now I am sitting in the pits as i type this. At least I haven't ruined anyone else's race.

I've not driven the Skippy but it never really attracted me, I much prefer tintops.

And I couldn't agree more about iRacing being the best racing experience, the models and physics are a step up, you can find a race at any time, it's reliable and the grid will be full.

I know many people moan about SR but it makes you treat your car and surroundings with a little more respect, it forces close racing without removing risk, makes you think about your move, your tactics and how you actual go about attacking/defending.

In reality you'd not barge your way up the inside because you'd damage your car, normally at great expense, this element of risk is removed in a game/sim but the SR system brings it back in to play.

If you like tin tops the Mustang is an option. I struggled to get it turning when I started out, but once you get the hang of trail breaking it is quite an enjoyable car - for me at least.

Oh well, even though the race in the Radical was disastrous for me, it was lots of fun and I managed to stay out of the way of the faster cars.

I will give it another go tonight when it is a bit more quiet in the house.

Lime Rock Park - MX5 Cup Track Guide

Someone asked for assistance at LRP as they were struggling to get close to 1 minute, so here's a sure fire way of nailing a steady 0:59s-1:00 lap without taking risks.

T1 - Let the number 2 board pass by and brake hard before the 1 board, around 50% braking, turning all the time towards the apex but avoid the curb and down to 3rd gear. Sweep wide using the width of the track here but don't let the car wash away, you can stick to the middle if you feel more comfortable and it makes for quite defensive play when being chased.

T2 - As the car starts to turn towards T2 and you aim for the apex, power down and avoid the curb, sweep left if needed but pull the car back to the right.

T3 - There are several lines through here that work, to remain safe and yet remain fast brake straight as the track kinks away to the left, you'll see the white line change. You only need a soft and short burst of braking here, let the car slowly rotate you to the apex, keep the car tight to the left on exit. You should be in a position to apply full throttle, feed in it, and keep it planted for T4.

T4 - A tight left exit of T3 is critical to allow a foot flat 4th gear apex and exit of T4, wind off steering lock as soon as possible to avoid scrubbing speed for the long back straight and fast uphill right. Use the curb on the left.

T5 - A gently kiss of the brake and turn, the car will rotate, you want to be back on the power early and don't worry about a slightly early apex or taking some curb - it's low and doesn't unsettle the car. Exit straight, dip the throttle on the crest at exit to keep the car stable.

T6 - Slightly more braking required than T5, but again not a lot, turn in as you ease off the brake and aim for just past the curb. If you take some curb dip the throttle a touch to settle the car on exit to avoid running wide. Use the exit curb, it's flat and wide.

T7 - Remain in 4th and full throttle, throw the car to the apex and hit the limiter, change up to 5th. You can use the inside curb lip, but avoid the rise. Run off is forgiving as you can kick up some dust on exit if needed - try and wind off steering lock as soon as you can.

Here's my replay of a relatively safe 59 second lap.
