iRacing

Since starting playing again I have been racing the MX5 at Limerock, which previously I had got ok at, but I still make silly mistakes. I find myself running wide too often, I am just very inconsistent. Car setup if fixed.

I'm also practicing in the Skippy at Okayama, with standard settings but also tried some settings last night which made things a bit better although I can't quite remember. With the Skippy it just feels like it's always sliding all over, I get a lot of oversteer and end up spinning out far too often. I am JUST about able to get round the track now but I'm not confident with it.

G25 settings are all standard. In game force is default, not sure what that is. Screen res is only 1680x1050 on a 20" monitor, FOV is default.

General problem is inconsistency and not feeling 100% in control of the car when cornering. I'm obviously trying to avoid braking whilst turning, and accelerating too hard out of corners.

I cant help with the skippy but I can help with the mx5 at LRP.
First of all dring the FOV down to about 70-73 its a nice place to start and then aim to bring it down to the FOV iracing gives you or as close as you can get to it without it making you feel like your sat on the bumper. (Iv e setteled on 69 now using a 24 inch screen)

It doesn't half help you Hit the apex and judge turn in, one thing you loose a bit of sense of speed.

in the logitech profiler make sure the ff is round 106%-109% Most use 106% i use 109% but start with what ever one else uses, then set everything else to 0% and untick centering spring, you want all your forces sent from the game not the logitech software. Then ingame set the MX5 FF to 14.8-15 this is where i find it starts to feel realistic.

Then try and be as smooth as possible I can do a few laps if your really stuck with you and see if your pushing to much or not enough into some of the bends at LRP, Make sure TIRES are turned up also so you can hear the audio aids to the tire is about to give.

Try those first few settings first see if they help

Once I get out of D class I don't think I'll touch the Skippy again. I have been doing TT's of Oulton Park Fosters in it, to fulfill my MPR. But even lapping in the 1.11's, I find it really hard to complete the 6 incursion free laps required without going off or spinning.

lol yea just bought the skippy and the rear feels like it wants to be the front :D
looks nice on replays though how it moves around.

in 7 laps i went from 2:20 to 1:54 on okayama full

Does anyone else find it hard to drive slow and steady? I can't help but try and brake at the latest moment, and take corners quickly. It's so hard to get into the mentality of "Just stay on the damn track!"

The lack of speed people like us using single screens doesn't help. Take the FOV out to about 90-100 in the MX5 around a twisty track notice how much slower you approach everything now, and how much earlier you brake.
Its how I learn new tracks, I set the FOV to what feels like 100mph when I'm doing 100mph then do a few laps this will give me a good feel for braking points and the actual speed I should be taking in and out of bends.

Then after a few laps I note those speeds and do some laps with my proper FOV which is much lower but with this FOV everything look more realistic and I can judge the apex curbs and turn in much better.
Its a trade off we have to live with when using one screen and If I go to a new track with my standard FOV I drive off everywhere as 100mph feels about 30mph so I'm not judging any of it correctly.

@Scary Squirrel I'm going to play some I-racing later just having tea, whats your game name ill add you and host up an ocuk mx5 practice session again if anyones intrested we can do some laps of this weeks track and have a small race. Was going to do some oulten park in the radical but Graveys having a little break he said.

My game name is Nicholas Benson. I will be on tonight, but it won't be until about 9.30-10 I'm afraid as I've got some work to do :(

I didn't realise the FOV affect how fast it feels you're going. I'll be keen to try some different settings later.

It works like this Drive down a country road at 70 mph and it makes you feel like a Finnish rally driver. hedgerow flying past at a billion mph do the same speed on a big wide open motorway and you can virtually take a nap it feels that slower.

The more you move it forward the less you see of the sides. Seeing the sides moving past us fast and blurry gives our brain the illusion we are travelling at 100mph.

Brake bias is the easiest way to solve that. Max it out and the car is much more stable under braking. Less exciting, but stable... Which is how I like my cars, because the finish line it not in a ditch. :->

With BB pared back the Skip is a pretty agile beast though (if, unlike me, you have the skill to deal with that) which helps explain its very long term popularity.

That makes a lot of sense. So I've felt like I'm not going too quick, so I am entering corners way too quickly. I'll look forward to trying some different settings tonight :)

Ok, so I don't know whether it was the FOV change or not, but suddenly I can drive the Skippy!!! I just got it all of a sudden. Started slowly but then started lapping confidently. A couple of corners I am still a bit slow on but in general it was awesome.

I just finished a race, unfortunately I was taking it easy at the back and then was a spin in front of me, I tapped someone and ended up needing repairs. Then later in the race I worked my way up to about 6th or something, then read a message someone typed and lost concentration, resulting in smashing into a wall and waiting for 5 minutes to be repaired :(

A problem I used to have also I now block messages when I'm racing, most people use mics anyway and the amount of places that text box as cost me :(

In other News I won the Top Split MX5 12am race at oaky, my first race of the week and a win :D would have ended 1inc also but steve owen used my bumper as a brake twice taking to much speed into t2 and t2.5

The chat can be annoying, both text and voice, but I don't want to turn it off as quite a few people don't use voice (like me :p), so I generally just got used to the text chat and assigned buttons for adjust the voice chat volume so I can mute it easily enough whilst racing if needs be :)

its not under braking its when taking a corner at what doesnt feel like a fast speed the car will just start to oversteer suddenly

the second corner of okayama is an odd one it feels like i should be able to go far faster than around 70 but if i try even with minimal steering input the back end just wants to swing around on me.

im not an fan of no rpm light either i was gonna get a shift light app for my phone but i stumbled across http://members.iracing.com/jforum/posts/list/1825542.page so i will give shift tone a go later

That's exactly how it feels to me as well.
