iRacing

hmmmmmmmmmmm just had ago in the radical for the 1st time in months, with this new ffb feels like i have to turn the wheel well more than i used to to get round corners...

The Mazda is slow but really is awesome to race with, keep at it, the lack of power means close racing that requires momentum, concentration and skill.

I've been on iRacing since the start and I still go back to the Mazda because the racing is so much fun!

I finally registered last week and to be honest I haven't gotten into it at all. The Cadillac feels strange to me, always wants to oversteer mid corner as though pivoting on a centre point. The Mazda feels better but its too slow to be much fun.

The sounds are weak too but the graphics are great imo. I prefer the crisp, clean look over the OTT post processed graphics I usually see in other racers.

I'm going to put more time into it but I don't see me buying any additional content for it.

Stick with it.

How many races have you won in the Mazda?

Just renewed via the "2 years for 1 / Please come back" promo.

2 years for £68'ish is a bargain.

I signed up through the Cadillac promo a few days ago and been practicing lime rock in the Mazda cup car as I want to go down the road racing route my lap times are around 1:01/1:02 still having problems keeping on the track tho how many laps would you say to be consistent over before I enter my first open practice I really don't want to mess anyone up. Really need a new wheel as well using a madcatz mc2 for the time being until I get the funds for a g27.

Had a play with the Cadillac, hadn't driven it since it was first released (broken, imo) so did a few laps around Mid-Ohio, at first there were some odd snaps mid-corner, but I think they were caused by an odd condition when you put too much lock on whilst understeering then the speed drops and they just seem to grip, kinda odd really, but after paying more attention to entry/lock it went away and seemed actually kinda nice to drive.

The Mazda is slow, but then it's the rookie car, it's supposed to be :p

Maybe try the SRF as well, very twitchy but good fun :)

Didn't get that with the update really, didn't actually notice a huge difference overall really, Radical is still fun though :D

And welcome back, ish :p

Don't worry about open practice too much, if you do manage to take someone out just say sorry, if they go off on one then ignore them as they're utter idiots :p

I always find I concentrate much better with others on-track anyway, with the Cadillac practice I mentioned above I hadn't even driven the car in several months but just went straight into an open practice, fair few spins but fairly easy to avoid others :)

The basic set-up for the Cadillac is junk and has all sorts of weird handling problems. Even the brake bias is wrong to the point where you can't use all of it's braking power because the rear end gets so loose. It's much more enjoyable to drive in an open set-up.

How come this thread is so dead, I thought OcUK had a strong iRacing following? :( 50% off at the moment, it's tempting me into trying it. I only have a 360 controller though. :(

Most of us talk on there website and steam etc guess once we spoke on there not much left to talk about over here.

I wouldnt really bother with a 360 pad im sure it will only frustrate you, get a cheap wheel for now. Theres a DFGT being sold for £40 quid on there at the mo in the uk forums so you can get racing with a quality wheel for really cheap these days.

If you do sign up don't forget to add one of us as a referral as we all get some free credits.

Side note its week 13 this week new season starts next week, so this is a great time to get into Iracing.

Tried the car the other week at Mosport and the base setup as been improved a great deal now really fun car to drive, thought I'd hate it not my kinda car at all, but few laps of Mosport and I was addicted, may even do a few races in her during the new season.

So thats the Mx5, Jetta TDI, Radical, Lotus 49 and the Lotus 79 also got my eye on the Mclaren Mp412. Theres needs to be at least a 8 day week to fit all that in :(

Most people get pre-occupied during the summer months hence why it was quiet.

I am expecting to start Racing again in the next few weeks when the weather starts getting cold.

For 50% off, give it a shot. Any questions, ask away.

What forum is that mate? I can't see a link to a forum on the iRacing site. ;o I'd definitely like to give it a shot with a wheel, that would be pretty cool. I just wasn't wanting to pay lots of money in case I ended up not enjoying it.

One more thing ill add I was interested in iracing since about 2007/2008 was it when it released and always thought that's my kinda thing I'd really like to get into that. 4 years went by before I actually tried it, During that time I was playing all types of racing games to try and get my fix none of them come close to the experience Iracing can give. Wish Id got into it from teh off but the cost always put me off. I was being silly all along its cheap really once you get into it. Theres new builds every 3 months. Im really impressed with the game and enjoyed my first 6 months over there.

Its also a great time to get into it the content coming out at the mo is very high quality and some of the best tracks and cars in real world racing.

Over the coming months we have the Honda BTCC coming out, the Lotus 49 is in the build due this week, the Mp412c is just round the corner. Track wise Zolder as just got launched alongside Oran Park, then coming out over the coming months we have donnigton, Thruxton, Croft and Mallory Park and Snetterton.

Also Montreol, Interlagos and BATHHURST in full laser scanned glory are all due in the next 6-12 months.

If you love racing then just get it pick up a cheapish wheel and come race with us, theres lots of Uk championships run by forum members for you to enjoy alongside the offical races and schedule.

You need to be a member to see there site. Pick up a 3 months pass think its about 9 quid with the offer on at the moment. Buy a cheap wheel off the members mart or the Iracing forums if you decide to sign up. If you really don't like the game you can always sell the wheel for what you payed and the games cost you less than a tenner for 3 months of testing.

You cant go wrong really. Thats cheaper than half an hours karting at your local indoor karting center.

Has much changed in iracing in the last 6 months? I had the skippy with ntm and found it so incredibly frustrating to drive. tried other setups, stock setups, setups people said were easy to drive, and i just could not drive the thing. I got to the point where my fanatec csr wheel and clubsport pedals (like roughly 7-800 worth of gear) got put in a cupboard out of frustration and i started playing wow again.

Has anything changed or will i regret signing back up? If i cannot drive the skippy, will I have fun in anything else? i suspect the answer to that is a resounding no :(

I've just renewed my membership for 2 years half price after having the summer off. Looking forward to the new season, going to try and concentrate on Radicals and Skippy.

Ive still got an active membership but no wheel to race with since it broke, just not had the funds to buy a new one :( i really need to get around getting another but theres quite a few on the market these days and im not sure whats "hot" these days, since getting my g25(rip) years ago.

Isnt the skippy a weird one to drive anyway ? road tires crappy skinny ones at that. I drive the Mx5 and Radical as my main cars and love them both. Give it another go when the BTCC car is out or sign up another account so you can take advantage of the 50% off just see if you get on with it now.

If you have that kinda gear in a cupboard I'd pull it out right away and get some use out of it.

Buy another g25 second hand or get a g27 If your looking around the £80-£199 range.

G27 can be had for under 200 quid these days np. Second hand your get one around teh £100-£120 mark

Probably a good idea to be honest, i dont know why i didnt think of that, must be my age lol, anyway it does make sense as the mods ive done to the g25 would swap straight over (13" momo wheel, extended paddles, inverted custom pedal box to name a few)
