I'm going to try and race in the GT series when it starts. Finding the time to practice and race is the hard part.

I do think that the races in the Grand AM series and others of a similar level are too long.

50 minutes is a bit long and the 90 minute races are insanely long.

Most users including myself think 50 mins is too short, every race should require pit stops. There are plenty of series with shorter races to choose from.

I think barmy is actually in the 'most users' column I'm afraid :p

I do like the longer races, more time to think/get settled, the Radical used to be 45 mins and it was good but participation suffered, they've now changed to 25 mins and participation is up...

Just read that the GT series is gonna be B class, that changes things, I want to get the full participation credit next season (just cause really :p), so was semi-looking for a multi-class series in B or above, which is just the Proto&GT currently, but that would take 3 races a week to get the award, not just two with the Ruf/McLaren :p

But I don't want to drive in those races, I love the MP4 and the RUF so that's what I want to race. When you're a very average driver, like me, then 50 minutes is a long time to concentrate. I don't think I'll ever complete a full season in any series that runs GT cars if there are two 90 minute races a season, like there is now.

And the schedule is up...

Although he mentions the GT3 cup is b-class yet it's in the list of c-class races, not sure what's going on there...

but GT3 = McLaren + Ruf Track, 30 minute races (for 9 weeks, 3 weeks of 70 minute races)

Also Ruf cup in the c-spec that in theory on the 30 minute weeks you could do back-to-back with the GT3...

GT3 is also nicely placed to start 15 minutes after the radical, so if there's no official race I've now got a fall back plan :D

Sweet. Doubt anyone will be racing the McLaren though unless its getting the NTMv5.

I will not be racing anything unless it has the NTMv5. I have really enjoyed the Skippy and Spec Ford series, some of the best races I've ever had has be done in the last couple of months.

Hope the GT3 is B-class as that will help me move up to A (even though I have no interest in racing the F1 car).

Is there a list of NTMv5 cars available for the new season?

The McLaren is getting NTMv5 :D

The new cars with NTMv5 are:
Super Late Model
McLaren
Radical \o/
Cadillac
Kia
Mustang FR500

There was also talk of a possible 6th, which is why the build is late, but no confirmation and no clue what car it is...

GT3 has been fixed to B class now, typo.

Yeah, although I like the longer races I do struggle to concentrate all the way and if I'm going to do multiple races per day (and/or week) I prefer shorter ones really.

I tried the Ruf Track last night for the first time (only driven the rwd versiona bit before then) and with just the baseline with less fuel you could see how with the right setup it'd be quite fun, had to use the brake a lot to get it sliding into corners how I like which should be able to be tweaked by the setup.

Anyone done any practice in the RUF Track at Road Atlanta?

I've probably done 30-40 odd laps of practice and I'm in the low 1:21's.

The MP4 world record is 1:19.156 in race trim, so I'm only 2 seconds off that time already.

Normally I'm around 4 seconds off the alien times, so I'm guessing the MP4 might be a bit slower than the RUF.

just got my subscription for iracing.
any tips?
i have a feeling im going to majorly outclassed in this game!

Treat Rookie class as practice and a learning experience. Do not use it for racing.

Start from the pitlane, concentrate on staying on track and avoiding accidents.

Treat every driver on track as a complete idiot and give them all the room in the world.

Don't worry about setups or lap times.

Just drive at your own pace and you'll naturally get faster as you gain experience.

This is a good set of videos to watch. It's focuses on Oval racing, but the message applies equally to road racing.

Only did around 4 or 5 laps with the baseline minus some fuel (think I left 8.6 gallons in there, no idea how much is gonna be needed for 30 minutes?), got down to a 1:21.5xx iirc

I think I've seen people mention that the RUF is currently a bit quicker, and I can easily see 19's with more practice and some setup tweaks so that makes sense. I think most people are assuming the MP4 will catch up a bit with the NTMv5 but who knows...

I think I had 16 gallons of fuel, that's probably more than enough for 30 minutes of racing. I think with more practice I can get into the low 1:20's and be able to do that consistently through a full race distance.

Looking forward to the new season.
