iRacing

Sounds like the 3 of us are pretty close, hopefully we'll get some good races in :)

I think it'll take me a while/different track before I get close to my optimal, not happy in the car really and it doesn't help that whilst I like road atlanta I've never been particularly good/consistent here :p

Don't know what happened but I just managed a 1.20.2. Anyways I am going to host a 2 hour practice session this aft probably so if you are on and see it up feel free to join.

Didn't see, or wasn't around for, your server yesterday Goates, but did join another around one I saw, it had 'realistic' weather set so not sure how that was in relation to standard testing weather but I did a best in that session of a 20.2, downside being the fastest guy when I left was on an 18.1

Didn't end up putting one up as there were so many others. Yeah I've seen some doing low 1.18's, annoying aliens :D. Dipped into the 1.19's yesterday but I think I've hit the talent brick wall now and no matter how hard I push I don't think I can get down to the 1.18's.

I feel quite sad though in that I ordered some gloves yesterday. The alcantara and the stitching on my GT3 RS can get really uncomfortable after long periods, and the fact I use high FFB doesn't help either.

I've got some mountain bike gloves I use sometimes if I'm playing for extended periods.

I don't know how much difference the weather makes between testing on your own and the race settings, but whatever they are it won't get me into the 18's.

Hey people, thinking of having a go at iRacing. I've got a Logitech Racing wheel that i bought for gt5 on my ps3 and never really got used as the stand i got for it was rubbish. I'm thinking about mounting it on my desk. So was wondering is this the best race sim out there?

if you want the most hardcore experience out there - then yes.

Be warned though, if you think your fast, you won't be. It has a very high difficulty curve and takes some time to get reasonable, never mind fast.

at least, that's how I have found it anyway.

Basically there's iRacing and Assetto Corsa.

Of all the sims I've played these two are the best.

IRacing is in a class of its own when it comes to racing online. Although AC isn't officially released yet so a direct comparison can't be made about multiplayer. But even when it is out I don't think t will challenge iRacing for being able to race online against randoms.

iRacing it is then. Will test out the wheel some point this week to check it's compatible with my pc and buy a 1 or 3 month sub.

I haven't got high expectations of myself. Will need to do loads of practicing to learn the physics of the game and what i can get away with. It's all because i went to BETT in London and came 17th in the standings for the whole week on an f1 sim lol.

Before you jump into iRacing be aware that most of the content has to bought separately to what you pay in subscription charges. So it does work out to be more expensive to play than any other sim.

New Build \o/

So the Ruf Track does have some extra weight, a whopping 32kg :p

After a brief test it felt a bit slower initially, possibly the extra weight, possibly the extra 1gallon of fuel (options are now 15.9 or 17.2 gallons, went with the latter), or just my imagination...

It is a whole heap more 'driveable' though, where I'd semi-frequently get snappy/'uncatchable' spins at times before it's now extremely catchable, did one lap where I got it a bit sideways onto the back straight and then planted the throttle, before that'd definitely see me spinning, but now I did a beautiful power slide out to the kerb :D

Not sure how much of a reference it is but in offline testing with baseline @ 17.2 gallons I did a 1:20.9 in 9 laps, same setup before my best was a 20.88x (did do faster with different weather but that does affect it to some extent), so not really that much slower although it felt like the lap was closer to being 'right' than my previous best laps...

Yeah overall feels more stable and even more fun to drive. I think it is around 1 slower than before. The top guys in my last hosted session were doing mid to high 1.19's. I managed a 1.20.6 on what felt like a decent lap.

I had trouble with downshifts not registering especially dropping down into second in the corner leading onto the back straight. There is a new line in the app.ini that automatically places 80ms delay on downshifts to prevent double shifting. I have set that to 0ms hopefully should make it better.

Doesn't seem to be any slower in my hands at least now, but I think that's because it's just so much more catchable, I can even get it sliding on the brakes and have no worries that it's gonna get away from me, loving it now :D

Do have the downshift problem though, both getting 2nd onto the backstraight and at the end of the backstraight going from 6th to 2nd there, but I think it's some overrev/timing 'issue' with the gearbox (may be intentional, not sure), if you leave it a fraction longer before downshifting, and a fraction longer between downshifts it seems to be vastly more reliable.

Also had a couple of occasions where instead of not downshifting it's gone into neutral, that's 'fun' :p

What sort of setup cost would i be looking at? And what content do i need to purchase?

I'd suggest buying a month subscription or if you can find a discount code online, then 3 months for the price of one. You'll get all the tracks and cars you need to drive the Rookie series in both road and ovals.

Once you're out of rookie, you'll know if it's for you or not. Then you can buy the cars and tracks as you need them, depending on which series you want and are eligible to race in.

Cars cost $11.95 and the tracks cost $14.95.

You so get 10-20% discount for buying multiple content in one purchase.

I'm a little underwhelmed with the latest update, I don't know was expecting a little more then just dirt build up and smoke. I was hoping for either pit crew animations, tyre degradation or at least back fire!! They must have the smallest art department in the world.

The tyre model on the ford mustang is ok I can't really tell the difference apart from being a frustrating 1 second slower but the RUF's are fun once I got used to them and was able to dial the oversteer out of the C-spec. People are complaining about the Macca though and rightfully so, was in a GT3 race last night and they stood no chance but I'm hoping further into the season it will dominate at other tracks
