iRacing

Finally got my settings down for this and my times are improving :)

Does anyone know how to get the rear view mirror working in the street stock car, its just black!

nice! was that from the iracing promotion, i.e. slap Fantec sponsor decals on the car and do some races? :D I put some on...but didn't race haha xD

well I'm getting better, well safety rating is at least with oval up to 2.74 i think (road still 2.5 as I'm forever off the track). just been running in some oval time trials to get the rating up, spent quite a bit of time in the practice too, trying to find fuller ones to try running with packs of people.

people are complete douche bags though :( was trying to get some good prac at being close with other cars and would be fine.... but there was this one **** who would be chatting rubbish over the voip e.g. "come on, come and get me, catch me if you can, come on, I'll make it easy for you" and so I would be right on his ass....go for the overtake and every single time as I would be getting to be nose to nose the **** wouldn't be able to hold his line and knock me into the wall and then say "god number 69 (lol i know) you need to stop driving into me"


ARRGHHHHHH go **** yourself you little ****. mean I then have to reset, get back up to speed and try and get back in a pack again. usually on the 4 & 1 turns of the sorta trioval where the turns either side of the start/finish line aren't banked, he'd just continue to take the normal sweeping wide line....which ofcourse makes him hit me into the wall. /sigh.

I want to race, but without a bit more confidence driving with the other cars closely I'm worried I'll just freakout and wreck the race :p
 
You don't get manydecent races in oval rookie. You can't run close in oval rookie, most of the drivers just aren't good enough. So you can practice all you like and you'll still get taken out in oval rookie.

You shouldn't even be trying to race at all in oval rookie, you should just concentrate on running a clean race, even if it means starting at the back and keeping our if everyone's way.

I got taken out twice yesterday in a B licence GT3 race. The first time I hadn't even completed a quarter of a lap, so you can't expect clean and close racing in oval rookie.
 
well yea I expected some scraping and such but we did managed to go round as a few of us... was mostly this one douche bag who would just drive his line. took others out too, like I was letting off on the corners if I felt it was going to push wide a bit to hold my line so we could keep the group. just want to practice it with a driver who has at least the tiniest bit of consideration ;)

but yea, that's what I want... clean laps.... and should I need to be close to another car I want to have more experience with it..

**** it, might just jump in a race tonight and pootle along at the back of the pack :p (and by pootle I mean floor it so they don't lap me xD ) try and get out of rookie ;)
 
If a driver takes the same line on every lap then it's your job to avoid him.

If he's deliberately changing his line to hit you then that's another matter.
 
well I say his line, I'm just saying the line assist and he followed it wide right into me.

well I've seen there will usually be packs of cars so want to practice it, surely in a pack no one can run the line they really want to as there's always going to be someone on the out/inside of you so everyone has a compromise a bit to get round......right? like if I've got someone on the outside of me I wouldn't expect them to pull back in behind me giving up ground just because my normal line would take me into him?

like I was trying to drive circuits where I would only stick to one section of the track.... so inside, middleish and then outside. outside being the hardest as push a bit too much and the wall is right there.... hence that number 4 turn, trying to stick to the outside lane (or any) flat out will lose the grip, so I throttled off a bit to try and help get the nose around a bit...usualy still not enough as the car slides out a little bit.
 
Whoever is in front has the right to the line they choose. If you're side by side then you have to leave "racing room."

Like I said earlier, you can't expect side by side clean racing in rookie class. You don't get that in higher licence series. At the end of the day most of the drivers in iRacing are amateur gamers, not professional racing drivers.
 
yea I gathered as much ;) I'll put it more down to that kid being a 12 yearold asshat :p the other cars i went round with we had no problems, maybe one of us might get the wobbles but who ever did just dropped away so we didn't wreck the others xD but this kid..... every single time! maybe he didn't have spotter on as mine was screaming away at me letting me know he was on my inside for the majority of the lap.

also looking for a upgrade in wheels, mine is alright bu it'd quite like a FFB wheel to add what little it can to immersion/feel of the drive :) but DAYYYMMMNNNNN they get expensive quickly lol. apparently mind has a "rumble" feature to shake symbolising the engine.....have yet to actually feel it working (apparently driver issues and have to go roll back to some discontinued ones?) quite like the TM f430 wheel, just finding where I can get it for next to nothing xD

I got mine in a bidding site. Just need to order some CSR Elite pedals off Fanatec. I will probably try F1 2013 as thats my fav game atm. Then put some solid hours practicing a track in iRacing. Which track/car combo is the easiest?
 
If you are a rookie in iRacing then your choice a limited for official races. The oval rookie class car at Charlotte is probably the easiest to combination to learn, but still not easy to master.

The MX5 in the road series is a good car to learn with and I find the Summit Point version used in the Rookie series the easiest of the tracks used in that class.
 
I didn't bother with many TT's, just practiced on a test server and raced.

You'll have to check the rookie schedule to see which layout is in use for Summit Point.

The Mx5 cup changes to Leguna Seca tomorrow, so you may as well practice on that first and when you feel as you can do at least 10+ clean laps then enter a race. The first corner and corkscrew are a bit of a bitch though, so be prepared.

Cool, I was actually going to get a few 100 clean and consistent laps under my belt before I start to race properly.

I said that to myself as well, didn't happen though lol Once I could manage 10 clean laps I jumped straight in, nothing like actually racing to gain experience :D:D
 
I think if I'd have waited until I'd done 100 clean laps in practice before I raced, I still be practicing now.

I wouldn't worry too much about the odd corner clipped too much, as long as you aren't all over the road and you can keep out of other drivers way then it's ok to race. As long as you start a race with the attitude of not taking someone else out, then you'll be fine.
