iRacing

Nope, iRating is only affected by races.

What do you mean by series leagues? All the official series, including rookie, have a championship over the season, but I think only non-Rookie ones have divisions based on iRating if that's what you mean?

Yeah it was the divisions I meant.

I was just looking at my friends list Iratings and wondered why people who have a higher class license and racing in better series have around the same irating as me who has only been racing a couple of months.

iRating is just a measure of 'skill' effectively, to gain iRating all you need to do is finish the top half of the field, preferably win, regularly. It doesn't matter what car you're in and hence what licence level just where you finish.

In one sense it's good, with enough drivers it achieves the aim of getting close racing (races with more than 'x' drivers are split by iRating), it rewards good finishes whilst SR is purely about not having incidents, and for most people it ends up at a level that accurately reflects their ability.

On the other hand my Oval iRating for example is heavily biased by the time I spend driving the Late Model and SK Modified around short tracks years ago, it's arguably too high for my ability with the NASCAR level ovals around bigger tracks, but because it's not car specific it is what it is. If I raced more in the bigger ovals it would slowly drop down to a more realistic level for what I was racing.

I think the main reason why rookie series don't have divisions is because, at least I think this is still the case, iRating is 'hidden' for rookies.

Oh yeah, also everyone starts at 1600, it then varies from there.

I think it's easier to improve iRating in lower licence cars and series. Mainly due to the fact that most of the time you are racing rookies while you may be C licence or higher. That gives you more of a chance of finishing higher up than you might in longer races in faster cars.

Ah right I get it.

So yeah Barmy I think its easier to get Irating while racing in rookie class due to the level of competition in the field. That's kinda why I presumed you would get more Irating while racing at a higher license level.

I think the gains and loses go up as you go up the licences, but I'm not sure.

I think you have to go longer between inc to improve SR as you go up the licences as well.

I'm sure Skill will know.

THis is how Irating works no matter what race you are in, no matter what car, no matter what div and no matter what series.
Before each race you will be given a number, this is not the number you select to drive Ie my number is 69 (yer i know dead original)
So for example you get signed number #5 on your car this means your Irating makes you the 5th fastest/rated driver in the race.

So now finshes below 5th ie 6-last and you will loose Irating, Finish above 5th and your gain Irating, Finish 5th and its basically 0 plus or minus a few points.
Now this is the tricky part SOF plays into this so say your in a field of the 10 fatest iracers in the world and you beat them then you will take a huge leap in Irating and they will take a huge loss.

So basically the calculation is take your assigned race number and times it by SOF that is the best of my knowledge of how Irating works.
So once you get fast and go race the rookies and your ranking around IR2500 if you loose your Irating will pay for it. Now if your Irating is 2500 and you race a field of people ranked around 3000-3500 if you win you will gets a shed load of IR.

Thats how it works basically without worrying to much about it all.

With the level of English I'm capable of that would be one badly put together wiki.

I struggle with has, as, there, their, your, you're. That's just the tip of the iceberg. I'd hate to put anyone through a wiki wrote by myself.

Had a 1 month for $5 code so thought I'd have a bit more fun with this. A couple of laps of lime rock park in the mx-5 and I was managing 1.04 laps. Not quite on the pace but I haven't lost it completely :)

So does a lot of GD :P

You will have to join us tomorrow for our OCuK race :D

I have just ran a TT in the touring cars at road america and did 6 laps (info says 5 for a valid TT). I had 1 incident but that was on the first lap so I did 5 consecutive with 0 incidents. However when I hover over the MPR it has not reduced the amout of TT's I need to do by one for my next license, am I missing something?

Doesn't always update straight away.

First podium of the season

Started 2nd and finished 2nd.

I'll take that.

Just had a go on charlotte speedway, best I've managed so far is a 1.26.3 :(

Keep crashing on the corner at the end of the long 'straight' by not getting enough speed off.

Practice makes perfect :D Will be fun mate, do your best to make it :D

Thanks and yes, it was in the GT3.

Going to have to remember to turn off my Plex server while I'm racing. If anyone is streaming from it, my frame rate dies.

I actually had to google plex server, didnt have a clue what it was :D

I managed to get over 4.0SR on my D license, all I need now is 4 races and im promoted :D:D:D:D:D:D

Im sure its either 4 races or 4 time trials Cuffylad, also my bloody SR rating is up and down like a yoyo.

Best time on Road Atlanta so far is around a 2:45 iirc

your right I missed that "or", I thought it was both lol

And I must have had a incident on one of my TT's cos I still need to complete one more :confused: Oh well it will have to wait till tomorrow now!

The Logitech pedal issue is a hangover from the momo racing wheel days. The pedals were so craptacular that the tiny white potentiometers would rock and come loose, causing all sorts of issues - brakes dragging, not getting full throttle etc. People often fixed this by gluing them, amongst other methods.

When the Driving Force Pro came out they used the same awful tiny pots and the problem remained. So Logi changed the calibration filter in the drivers to basically do a form of real time calibration updating, so if (when) the pots moved the calibration would reset to a point. A major flaw with this would be that if you 'lost' calibration during a race the next time you touched the pedal it would immediately register 100% until you'd managed to push the pedal through it's entire range. Imagine this happening on your brake! Hello wall. Goodbye car and race.

The second revision of the Driving Force Pro (and all wheels since that point) utilised much improved metal can pots which are substantially more solid and reliable, so the issue of wobbly pots is basically gone. However, the driver / filter behaviour remains. That's why you often need to push your pedals through their full range when you first get back in the car.

I suffered the white pot fiasco and it almost drove me crazy. This was probably six or seven years ago. At that time the wingman forums still existed and the Logi guys would post on there, that's how I learned about the driver changes. I asked about if anyone could make me a plug which could convert my DFP pedals straight to USB and Leo Bodnar sold me one of his original controller boards, and with the pot info I gave him he made me some wires which connected straight from the pots into his board and from that he then made the Bodnar box which can be used on the DFP, DFGT G25 and G27. So I had the first ever one and basically gave him the idea for it :) I also gave him my G25 six speed shifter so he could develop the gear shift box too.
