I do that when I'm practicing. I push too hard so that I end up being off line or too fast into corners. It helps you to know what you situations you can actually correct and save. Joining hosted practice sessions help as well, since there's nothing at stake in terms of SR and IR, you can be more "reckless" and see where the limits of your own skill are.

Thanks for the advice guys.
I've put in something like 10h practice for Skippy @ Oulton, and its a track i know well, even if i havent raced around it much before (its my local track though, and never looked that drab when i've been!). But at the same time, that 10h is my first 10h with the car, and probably only put in around 15h into the game so far.

I tried summit point last night, although it was the larger version in the Skippy, as i figured i'd take a look at somewhere new to me. If the MX5 is on the smaller track, its going to be hectic, like 40sec laps or something? It also looks slow, aka no grip :(

Also 2 questions:
- If you do a specific race 5 times, what happens with that? Do i get my best pts result, or the average of all race pts?
- Is it better to practice the week before and do a race early, because less people have practised, or does it make little difference? I get the feeling leaving it till the last day means most people attempting it have had attempts already, so are more experienced at how its going to unfold. Downside with early racing is no practice sessions around others.

Summit Point Jefferson is always fun, very limited in overtaking but personally I quite enjoy the track, the full/proper circuit is better though :)

With points, iirc it's now 'best of 4 or average', essentially if you do 4 races (might be only 2, but think they changed it) then only your best points count, if you do 5-8 races your best 2 averaged, 9-12 = best 3 averaged, etc

It's probably easier to finish higher up earlier in the week, although there will be fewer people racing so less/no splits which might leave you with people faster than you, but you'll also end up with a lower strength of field most of the time, which means even if you win you could probably get better points by finishing top-3 later in the week, most of the time.

You'll also find for most series there's a specific timeslot where they try to get a good strength of field together, join then and you'll get a harder race but potentially better points haul than most of the time.

Thanks Skill.
So i can do 4 attempts and it counts the best race results pts, more than 4 and it starts using an avg. Seems reasonable.
Ive done 2/1/2 in the MX Cup, and 3 in the Skippy. Would have done more in the last MX but thought a bad result might make things worse.

The last part, where you're referring to SOF, thats for iR, right? not series pts. Not sure whether i should be bothered by S.Pts, seems a little weird if im in a high split and finish 5th, i get less S.pts than someone winning (4th even) in a lower one. But it seems like the only thing to really race for.
Even in Skippy, im Div4, im sure there were better marked drivers in lower divisions, i'd check but the website is so useless, it wont load anything and seems to be down so often.

That, and regularly telling me the auto-login didnt work, on a machine which gets rebooted every 10 or so days, is a laugh. If it cant hold my info with a machine thats not been powered off, and has an iR window/tab or 4 open at all times, then what hope for others??

Anyone else pick up the DW12, this thing is a blast on road courses even without the correct down force package :D

that your vid? looks epic, loved the jump going over the hump :D
not a cat in hells chance i could keep something that fast & responsive on the grey stuff at any respectable pace, i'd be either slow or into a barrier every other lap, certainly if other cars are anything to go by.

Hurray!! After 3 years of no wins I finally got one today in the GT Proto challenge. The SOF was really low but I was surrounded by people in my division. Couldn't believe I didn't bin it somewhere lol

^^

Nice one. Always a tense time when you're leading and on for a win, never mind a first win.

Either way it's always satisfying and makes the practice worthwhile.

Really missing GT3, not been able to drive since Mosport. Don't have half the new tracks on the schedule as most of them came out when I was taking a break. I'm holding off on buying them as knowing my look I'd pick up Interlagos and next season its off the calendar.

Think I'm going to wait till Bathurst. Buy that and then see how I'm getting on. Was doing Ok in DIV 3 also. Hopefully I can pick up points towards the backend of the season and climb back up the ladder. I'd be happy with a top 20 finish in my division.

At the moment I'm struggling though as i only have 6 of the 12 tracks.

Interlagos had been in every season that included the MP4 since it's release, as far as I can remember anyway.

I don't think you missed much by not racing at COTA or Phillip Island.

Just had a real good race on Jefferson Park. Stuck with 1st place all the way around for 15 laps no more than a second all the way around until I failed to pass and dropped back! One of the best races ive ever had! :D Managed to get the laps to 57.548! :D

Its a horrible little track that Jefferson!
Need to do some offline laps to understand where im losing time in the first sector (you know, the one with about 8 turns, as opposed to the other 2 with just 1 corner ffs).

Managed 57.2xx in about 30-35 laps, but im guessing i could go 56 if i can see my exit out of the tight left in Sec1
From open practice, i can imagine the race being easy to get shafted by backmarkers

Congratulations Doggie2k! I'll tell you now the first one is the hardest! When I was racing at race2play it took me 180 races over 3 years to get my first win. I then went on to win 6 more over the remainder on the season (2 months)

Thanks Skill.

Thats the way I read it too.

Yeah once you reach a certain point it becomes a game of concentration for the large part, and I'm not really sure how to improve that. I'm still kinda nervous when someone is right behind, but I can now also drive reasonably decent lap times as well.

Quoted for truth. I have so many 'offs' in the last few laps after I've done all the hard work, just cruising to the finish line and do something stupid, like forget to brake :o. I am getting better at not doing this but it still happens.

In the lower class races I'm always nervous when someone following me close as I'm far more likely to be wrecked. That being said it is much easier to avoid as everyone has a lot more time to think about what they're doing and get out the way if it all goes wrong.

When racing with someone competent I don't get nervous. I know where the overtaking spots are, I know what corners are next and I know in some places there is nothing I can do expect get my corner exit right and hope for the best (think Road Atlanta).

On another note, if you are following someone and you don't intend to pass, tell that someone. You will both go faster, catch leader/build a gap. It also gives you, the follower, a bit of free knowledge as you get to see their braking points, where you are fast and just build your strategy for the final 5 laps or so when you want to make your move.

Has anyone here had a chance to try out the new DW12? I've been tempted to come back and dust off the wheel but can't decide if this car is worth it or not. I pretty much drove the old indycar exclusively and would love to know what the new one is like.

Ha! Thanks guys it's not my first win but it is since I was in Rookies 3 years ago so I do consider my first proper win :)

Having to deal with higher pings it is harder to keep it consistent then when I was using Iracing in the UK. Still the net code is pretty good down under.

I think I like Jefferson. I've had three really good races and only 1inc in one of them! Managed a 1st, 2nd and 1st.. Set fastest lap in two of the ones I won and managed to get my lap time down to a 57.2xx now! :D Its a really good race circuit assuming you get good people who understand when to yield when being overtaken.
