iRacing

Had a funny evening/night.

First up was the Skippy league race @ Brands. I've had a couple of races around there and been very comfortable, i've also done a load of TTs to try and improve my consistency and focus on clean lapping, which has helped a lot IMO.
End of the first lap and i screwed up the 2nd to last corner but managed to save it, let a car go past on the racing line into the final corner and braked early, but i guess i didnt brake long enough and got on the power too soon and ended spinning a rear wheel on the outside exit, getting in the way of half the field and eventually someone hitting my stationary car mid-track. Lost 40sec on the next guy although just about got the position on the exit of the last corner for the flag.

At 1am i signed up for the MX5 race at Okayama, thats the first race i'd done since giving iR a proper try, felt comfortable enough jumping straight in with no time to practice. Track loads up, i exit the pit, take T1, line up the left handed T2 only to find this isnt the same config! Fortunately its just half the track, less to learn/remember. Seemed okay in the 2 laps i got.
Put the car on the grid, im waiting, clear lights come up, i get some revs going, red lights on, and like an idiot i upshift and hit the brakes realising what i'd just done in a split second. 'Towed' to the pits, wait there for 40+ sec, 10 sec penalty for JS, and by the time im out of the pits the leaders are 8sec behind me.
Still finished mid-pack, no incidents, and 10sec clear of the leader :@

Then to Zandvoort. I've never been a fan, and never done many laps around here but know it loosely from DTM races. I did a few laps there yesterday to get an idea, best i was managing was low 1:12.xx but i did qual, managed a 1:11.6 which i was pleased with, and for the race i started 2nd, managed to stick with the leader for about 4 laps and pull away from the rest, and went the full distance without any mistakes and i'd made tons in practicing, especially the 'shortcut' section from club to full circuit, that corner just kills me every time. Backmarkers were helpful, and ended up being a nice clean albeit uneventful race, but the other guy was clearly much faster and more confident on some of the corners i just wasnt willing to push that hard in a race.

So 2 terrible races and a positive one, i dont care if i finish last if i can just come away from the race without making stupid mistakes through loss of focus. But im starting to feel much more confident with the car, and theres times when its sliding away and im holding onto it, sometimes i'll have to brake/throttle jam it to save, but often just a little correction or hold the slide and let the weight settle, something i havent been able to do until recently.

I checked my T500 pedals last night and there's no movement at all in the accelerator and brake. There's a very small amount of sideways play in the clutch, but not enough to catch anywhere.

Good enough for me, time to fight with TM on it, wish me luck ill post back if i get a result from them.

At last charlotte road is out of the way for SRF. Free track and was on the last race of the week full of screaming and moaning / bickering yanks. Ended up clean race with 89 champ points in the top 2300 SOF split :)

Onto Suzuka West now, tight little track.

Also ordered a ButtKicker Gamer 2 for my Obutto rig, another 5.1 sound card for £5 and will get sim vibe too. Dip toe in the water to see if I like the vibs and if so, go bespoke with 5 transducer setup and sell the ButtKicker.

I hope you're either on the ground floor, or not directly above you're living room like i am, cos those vibrations come through so easily.
I've bought isolators, and loosely placed 4 flat under there which to be fair is rated for 320kg (80kg each), and i need roughly 180-200kg, but it really concerns me. Ive got all the materials to build a platform, and if i stand them upright they're rated at 20kg ea, so i'll be using 9 (3x3) but its amazing how much noise it makes to have it on a setting where you can feel it nicely under you.

It is great when its running though, although the best experience ive had with it so far has been in Star Citizen in the dogfighting alpha module, out in space and blowing up a ship and feeling that explosion, its really satisfying.

My other problem is that i prefer to use headphones, and their USB. That said, Obutto finally released a speaker mount system which the UK guy should have in a week or 2, and it basically mounts 2 brackets behind your head, and 3 under the monitors, so im quite interested in getting that.
oh yeah, and from what ive heard people saying, Simvibe isnt really worth the cost for a Buttkicker, but if you end up going down the multiple transducer route, you'll be all set. I would like to do the same, i just need to isolate the vibrations to the Obutto, not through the floor.

Just got bumped up to C license, C 3.42 too.

I'd just done 2 MX5 cup races, the first i finished 3rd, laps were nice and consistent, and the only incident was me getting rammed into T1 and getting a x4 for it, wtf? Was the car in the middle, i braked perfectly for the car in front, car behind didnt and nudged me, and yet i get penalised for their mistake too.
My iR score for that was '---' whatever thats supposed to mean. I got the same in a qual before it.

2nd race, i hit 'join server' start doing warmup laps, and i cross the line the first time and nobody has joined. 4 laps passed, and im wondering if Sky disconnected me (they have a passion for resets at midnight/1am/2am bang on the hour). Got off the track, and im in practice!
I quit ASAP, joined the server just in time to see the grid exiting T1!
Did all my laps, supposedly started 2nd, finished 7th, 2 'off-track' and i get IR +0.45

I had a much better race the other day, 0 incidents, finished 8th and got +0.10

It just doesnt make any sense, unless those '---' were screw-ups, and the 2 races & 1 qual came to +0.45 and it'd only just caught up?

The rating system seems random to me! Also I had 4x Contact the other day because I overtook someone, he didn't like it so on the next bend he floored it into me.. Cheers!

Detached house, rig upstairs so vibrations will be a concern, but will wait and see.

I have been asking Obutto about the speaker mounts and so far I have had no proper replies from Ubotto wanting to take my money :(

Catanonia loving the setup mate, this is something that I aspire too one day. Just need to buy a house where I can hide my setup from the boss! IE an attic.

I'd sent Chris an email, ive had a couple of issues building mine (right monitor leg the mount for the foot the holes didnt line up, and acyrilic tabletop slightly wonky on the left) and he's been great, takes him a day or 2 to reply but he sent a replacement leg without any fuss, and helped offer a suggestion for the tabletop which looks like its worked, and made a decent suggestion for monitor alignment i hadnt thought about. He told me on the 31st that he was about to place an order, shipping mid-June. I quite fancy them myself.

As for the Obutto & Buttkicker, i'll probably try and build the platform next week, and hopefully that'll significantly reduce whats passed through to the floor, but i dunno. One things for sure, the whole rig rattles, theres certain rev points where it just hits this perfect reverberation point and the whole things just sings!

If the rig isnt directly above a room which gets used much, then it wont be much of a problem, but put it over a living room, and its quite horrible. Rooms on the same floor are fine, its just directly below, you hear everything.

"You need 4 more Races or 4 more Time Trials in your license class or above."
Does this mean i need to do 'C' races/TTs in order to qualify for 'B' license?

Nothing i own allows me to race in any 'C' Road series, Oval is fine of course

So im looking at buying a 'C' series car, and i'll do a few TT's and Races.

The RUF, while im not fussed about it, seems to be the best option for me. I want to do the GT3 series eventually, and the RUF has the RUF Cup & WSCS both 'C' series, and GT3 in 'B' so i could jump straight into GT3.
Clearly the Z4 is superior, but for S03 i plan to focus on the Skippy, and use that season to learn the GT3 series (in RUF or Z4), and i'll switch my focus to that for S04.
The biggest plus is that the RUF cup, the last i own 5 of the last 6 tracks (no Zolder), and WSCS i have Mid-Ohio. If i could get 0.55+ iR in the next 12 days, i should be C 4.0+ and be able to do 3/4 weeks in GT3 too.
4 Cars in 1, is nice too. What i dont get is that only 2 seem to have a series, 12R C-Spec and 12R Track. Whats the point of the AWD & RWD variants?

Anyone here own the RUF and able to give me some feedback on it? Is it easy to drive, setups available etc

Personally I think the C-spec is one of the worst cars on the service, have tried and tried again to get to grips with it but that oversteer is crazy rubbish. The GT3 version is great I've really enjoyed driving it over the past few seasons.

I concur.

The GT3 is really nice to drive.

yeah, i just cant race with them to get B, is all i meant. As i said last night, i cant see the point in them adding the other 2 versions if there isnt a series for them.

I'm thinking of trying out the Skippy but I'm worried it will be too much of a handful to drive, what are people thoughts on it please?

Im not a single seater fan in particular, but i do find the Skippy fun to drive, its not difficult and theres only 5 things you can adjust in the setup, which keeps things simple.

Seems like a simple, user friendly vehicle though. Ive only been playing a few weeks and it was the skippy which was recommended on here when i got my D license, and the races have been fine in general and it hasnt been too hard for me to pick it up, its not uber fast so it suits me just fine now, i'll definitely be doing season 3 with it, and i'll be doing some C/B series for the license.
