iRacing

Ah, that's the one I saw, that was pre-patch so when it was sketchy, as I said he makes it look so easy! :p Drove it a bit more this evening and it's great fun, still gonna focus on GT4's but will try to get some races in with the Caterham :)

Been reading that they've rolled out a fairly large change to the weather system, kinda last minute (after testing it during week 13), basically now for 'most' series the weather forecast is re-rolled/generated for each race.

D-class and below series affected are still guaranteed to be dry for 10 weeks out of 12 as before but will still vary, C-class and above can have potential rain at any time/week of the series!

As someone who thinks the iRacing rain implementation is amazing I think this is a great thing, even if there's not that many wet races the fact that each race will change rather than being static essentially all week is awesome imo. Seems in general on the forums that's the opinion as well but some people obviously hate it but hey, can't please 'em all.

I do kinda agree with some of the sentiment that certain incidents/SR effects could do with being lessened during actual wet races though, especially if we're going to have a bunch more of them, like a 1x off-track could be a '0.5x' or something, whilst keeping 4x's the same, imo. But we'll see how it goes...

When I did a quick check this morning it looked like all the Caterham 420R and Falken GT4 (fixed) races had been dry, the GT4 open setup (+LMP3?) had had 2 races and one looks to have been wet.

Raced in rain this morning at Silverstone. Couldn't see a yard in front of you going down straights find myself ducking in and out. I raced in rain many times but was a bit different, it keep changing, typical Silverstone weather  stop then restart. Slightly dry out then 2 laps later track a pool again. i like the rain as a blast. But I must remember not to keep putting a wheel on kerbs or grass.

Was in practice with Lohner this morning, Christ he quick. 10k I think

Had a bit of a mixed end of W13/first week of the season. Was leading a Caterham race at the end of W13 by like 9.5s before an unforced error, then similar in the first GT4 fixed race and also the open race. On the other hand feeling way happier with the GT4's so done one fixed race and 2 of the multiclass 30 minute races, the multiclass is always interesting.

Also did a Caterham 420R race around Oulton, had the pace if I hadn't messed up my second Qualifying lap to be up with the leader in my class I think but instead was in the crazy midfield, ended up second though with a relatively clean race, unlike the previous 3 where I made silly errors this time I kept it together and others made the mistakes.

Second open GT4 race was this afternoon, set a new PB of 2:11.7 in qualifying, I was 12th, bunch of 5-7k guys in there, I was way out of place :p Race was a bit hectic, lost some spots early on (still maybe way too conservative), had a bunch of incidents mostly I think not my fault, one was maybe me, but ended up in 12th at the flag so that'll do in that field, gained iRating.

Next two and a bit weeks won't see much though, away this weekend but might be able to get in a race on Sunday evening and/or Monday, next week though I can only do Tuesday and the week after that only Sunday evening and Monday again. Don't even know what the tracks are but not sure how much I'll get done.

Ended up doing just one more race this evening, GT4 fixed, another decently strong field and not sure I performed as well as I could've, especially qualifying but what a great race. Clean too, had a 1x where I had the #1 guy looking for a way past after he spun and drifted just slightly wide.

Spent most of the race behind a guy who was pretty much the same pace as me, our best laps had me by 0.2, but basically wasn't getting past without a mistake but he was consistent, I spent several laps sat like <0.5s behind him but eventually he made a mistake through maggots/becketts and I got a run into Stowe, he defended really well, firm but fair but he left a line into the chicane and I went for it, managed to then put in a good lap with him being pressured from behind to finish ~1s ahead at the end. Great fun :D

Amusingly there was a guy who was super aggressive early on, so being overly passive I let him through and sure he was a bit quicker but end result was he finished 1 place ahead with 12x, good work :p

I don't have time for much these days the odd gt3 daily. Had few yesterday. Just jumped in for simagic Silverstone 40min race, can't be bothered for shorter races. Gets a bit insane., may do the Silverstone 3hr tomorrow if home early from work. started at 2k and 2k at end. Really should practice but these days just jump into race and learn as we go. Not best way I know, but it's fun n that's all that matters to moi.

omg was hard work 3hrs:eek:, was 2 laps short of fuel was doing ok till then, just outside top 10 after starting 53 as didnt qualify, dropped loads when pit, ended up 20 odd, but learning experience of save fuel instead of racing :D

I do prefer the longer races tbh, can't in the next week or two but planning to do some of the 2 hour GT4 races... Even the 30 min open setup ones feel better than the 20 min fixes races...

Yeah I try to avoid the shorter races, all hell kicks off usually. It's generally 40min races I do. Saying that I got taken out on lap 2 of that 3hr races last nite, craziness. Luckily no damage and they let me past when caught them up few laps later.

Feels very odd but already done with my racing for the week  :p

Off on a golf trip tomorrow afternoon and not back till a week on Sunday, so the 'next' week will also be a rush to get my 3 series in (GT4 open and fixed + Caterham 420R).

Todays races went ok though, bit disappointing in the open GT4 but I'll chalk it down as a learning experience :p

Fixed GT4 first - Very little experience of the Indianapolis Road course, did barely any practice but enough to get the general layout then jumped into a race. Went solidly really, bit of a no-mans land race where the group ahead were comfortably quicker but the group behind were slower. Clean race though except for one incident, maybe affected by a quicker guy who had spun earlier gaining on me I lost it in Turn 3/4, silly error pushing too hard. Lost just the one spot, just got the 2x and continued on, after a lap settling down I was still ~1s a lap quicker than the guy behind so no fuss really. 2x and a solid result so gained both SR and IR.

Caterham at Donington I thought I'd do better really given I'd done the full GP loop during W13 but didn't really have the pace I wanted, maybe setup as I did tinker with it at Oulton last week, but still a solid enough race, ranked 21st and came 15th in top split. 4x of which 2x was someone driving into me at the chicane before spinning, the other 2x were just minor off tracks. Tiny SR loss, small IR gain.

GT4 open setup at a wet Indy, didn't expect that and all I did was put wet tyres on, no change to setup from what I ran at Silverstone (a tweaked fixed). Started out ok but here is where the learning experience starts. I think I just cooked the front tyres, 10-15 mins in they just died, like dead dead, absolutely no grip whatsoever. I think it's 90% me overdriving and especially ABS but also maybe setup, AI reckons bumping front tyre pressures and maybe reducing camber can help the tyres live, but mostly on me. Only 3x all from understeering off in the braking zones, Gained SR and lost IR.

So yeah, definitely need to work on that wet driving, especially now the weather is so much more variable (which is still amazing and the best thing they've done in ages), feels like I've got pace when I overdrive, and I'm safe enough/in control, just obviously the tyres is a problem, and that's just a 30 min race :p

So yeah, away now for a week and a half and then jump into racing with no practice again, GT4's at Brands GP and Caterham at Zandvoort, at least I know the tracks, it'll be fine :)

i would avoid redbull like the plague, like world war 3 on there  started at ir2.3 4.5 down to ir2.1 and 3.2 after this morning :( its pistols at dawn even in the rain:cry:

I got my SR hammered 'last week', firstly in the GT4 open stuff where I got 12 incidents in 30 mins of Brands GP which were partially my own fault (1x's) but also got plain punted by 'hard racing' n00bs, great.

Then when I did the Caterham's at Zandvoort it was wet and it seems I completely suck in the wet with the Caterham, other cars I've been actually quite competitive in the wet, more so than the dry, but not the Caterham, not even close, so both slow but also several 1x's and spins...

Lost like -0.6-something and I was only A2.7x to start with so now low-2's dangerzone.

I find it crazy on a 45min race many are racing like it's a 2 lap race, plus they don't seem to understand tyres are cold especially first lap.. the amount of cars dive bombing in rain is insane, but so funny when they sailing off the track. Could be a great yt with dive bombs with added music lol

Separate note
Tempted by monitor seems insanely cheap. For reason no doubt

Yeah, this was 'only' a 30 min race but same applies, I even gave the guy the position, I think I've mentioned before but I'm really passive for the first lap or 3 and so when he dived I just left the inside for him but he ran out and bumped me off track, 0x contact followed by 1x for both of us and an extra 2 or 3 spots lost, not the end of the world but just unnecessarily stupid.

Anyway, better race yesterday, wasn't confident really going in as it seems real easy to pick up 1x's at Road Atlanta but 20 min race and just 1x and that was just a miscalculation on turn in on first lap/cold tyres, actually gripped better than expected, after that was clean. Close race too, most of my races seem to be me in the lower half of the top split with the 5/6/7/8k peeps being miles ahead but yesterday actually it was super close. 2.2k sof, #1 was 2.6k-ish, I was #13 at just shy of 2.2k, qualified 5th and finished 6th. Good times.

That monitor does seem insanely cheap! Although just checking again and it's gone up since I saw it yesterday but still reasonable... I keep thinking of going triples or a new/bigger ultrawide (got the Alienware first-gen QD-OLED 34" one)...

I think I rather pay few quid more n get the iiyama. I always figured triples are too much work and need beefy. Gpu/CPU

I'm giving red bull a miss this week now as getting beyond. I'm finding those ruddy gtp are a pain on this track, this morning was running 3rd one soun in front and took me out n wrecked my race, so thinking I'm cursed in this track

im struggling on Gilles Villeneuve this week cant seem to get the beamer gt3 turning in plus lack of grip on corner exits, any pointers for this iconic circuit, at least haven't hit wall of champions yet, yet

Not sure I've ever spent enough time to get good/have tips around there tbh, certainly not in the GT3's :p

Still going down the rabbit hole with the GT4's, starting to get some better pace/racecraft/results coming from it which is good to see, I'm not that quick but my Sports Car iRating has reached the dizzy heights of 2400, matching my Formula one, so that's nice.

Those pesky LMP3 cars around Summit Point though in the SCC/Endurance race, mental... Somehow survived, mostly, those races...
