IRC, anyone still use it?

I used to use it a lot, even from work with BitchX client. Was great as it looked like I was doing some work. :p

I quite fancy using it again, I quite miss the laughs that were had on IRC. Far less chavs than the web chat services as well (although it could be argued that IRC hosts a lot more deviant perverts).

I think EFnet was my network of choice back then.

I used to love irc!

but my ex was an IRCop, so him spending soooooooooo much time on it made me bored of it.

the trivia quiz things were pretty fun though!

I used to use it on #ukchatterbox, when i was a mod there, i went back on recently and seen at least one other member of ocuk there :)

IRC is a horribly antiquated entirely user unfriendly anachronism that should be consigned to the dustbin of the web along with angelfire websites and under-construction banner gifs.

Not for yonks. Spend far too much time on it from oooh 1995-2002 roughly, starting off on Undernet as an op for #gibraltar, then moving onto Quakenet for Q2/3/others...

Great system in its time, kinda run it's course imo.

IRC is a protocol, not an implementation.

Still using it everyday for Quake and related gaming socialness. If any former quake players fancies giving it another shot, try #qwrookie and #quakeworld @ QuakeNet and take a look at www.quakeworld.nu

:)

Yep still use it, moved from Quakenet a year or so ago to a private server, only half a dozen at most use it but find it much easier to have a chinwag than most things.

Ps. If you're you're using IRC and the mIRC client with the FixedSys font you need shooting :p

I have been on irc since 1997 and I still am active in a few channels on freenode and efnet. For IT assistance there is nothing like freenode, you can join a channel of most software and hardware types and there will be experts ready to take the **** out of you for asking the wrong question.

I use irssi on freebsd via putty.
