Is 9800 GX2 the speed bump we needed?

What does this mean?

It means current games on the market didn't seem to test the 8800GTX when it came out compared to what current games are doing to the 9800GX2. In otherwords, game development has overtaken GPU development, and we would all like something truely powerfull again. Like the 8800GTX was. Not some bolted together copout like the GX2.

Distilled: We want our £400 to buy us next gen. Not current gen cobbled together.

Azza: Spot on. I didn't think it was that hard to understand.

Think he means that when it came out the GTX could walk through everything at the time so he saying that a card that costs £400 now should also be able to do the same to current games.

Azza:

Yes , I already was aware of the answer! lol

Fact is 9800GX2 don't cut it.

Is my point not understood?

Distilled?

Am I talking about whisky or GFX cards?

Distilled...meaning what?

Meaning my point. Distilled down from a larger paragraph to one nice easy to read sentence. Is it because it's late or are you just being obnoxious for the sake of it?

Forum: Is he always like this?

Why worry?

You have thought?

Why not ask the question?

obnoxious is your first thinking?

rise above? no?

9800GX2

We need more power. Everyone is pining for the real next gen, it's been long enough now. We need something to sweep us off our feet, get the real next gen buzz back :).

I just want a true next gen gpu, it's not allot to ask considering how long we've been stuck with the g80 now is it, pc games don't mean allot to me, my fun comes from actually testing and playing around with cutting edge technology and gpus/cpus are probably the most fun to play with but atm both are stagnating right now and it's just getting sooooo boring, it doesn't help that 1920x1200 is soo cheap these days and poorly programmed games like 'lost planet' for example really struggle at that res and could do with a bit of good old brought force power from a new gpu.

Correct, we need new cutting edge silicon. New features, new toys. New stuff to play with. G80/G92 bores me to tears now :p

I bought an 8800GTX so i could play stalker maxed out. I installed it and played stalker maxed out, it was the top of the range card and cost me £300.

I want to buy a top of the range card so i can play crysis maxed out. Its not going to happen. Disappointing..

New AA Filters
ERAM?
More clockspeed
More clocking options
Better IQ
More gimmicks (we love the gimmicks :p)
The buzz of a new architecture
More frames think G70 - G80

Need I go on?

I agree

what i dont get is the 3870 series has 320 or 640 stream processing units compared to the 8800's 128, yet performs worse in shader intensive games. Just doesnt make sense does it!
