Is AMD due to release any CPU's that will be fast as an Intel CPU ?

There was a rumour floated on reddit months ago that the Ryzen 3000 series on 7nm will be able to reach 5ghz.

That is of course entirely unsubstantiated because the chips do not yet exist and cannot be tested. It could be an educated guess from a CPU engineer within AMD, or it might be a total fabrication. In either case, AMD's 7nm is next year, April at the earliest (we think).

If I were to guess, I would suggest that a delidded OC'd 8700k will have the fastest clocks of any CPU for at least 12 months, quite possibly longer. There's no reason to believe Intel's upcoming 8-core will OC that far on anything short of a custom water loop. Same process, same architecture, just moar coars so... heat will be a thing. Nobody seems to know when Intel's 10nm will arrive.

Since most games favour 6x 5ghz cores over 8x 4ghz and probably will for a while... I don't think you'd be wrong to buy an 8700K for gaming as long as you planned to delid and OC the nuts off it. Anything less than an 8700K, or not wanting to OC it, or favouring productivity tasks, then 2700X is surely the way forward.

The 5GHZ rumour was because Globalfoundries said their 7NM process would mean 5GHZ CPUs:
https://www.techpowerup.com/242148/globalfoundries-7-nm-to-enable-up-to-2-7x-smaller-dies-5-ghz-cpus

However,I would not trust the claims from them, until we see Ryzen samples actually hit 5GHZ,as they have made many claims which have not been quite delivered in reality.

Also if its next to a TV,surely something like a Core i7 8700 non-K with a quiet cooler would make more sense?? Just increase the TDP limit and it should boost somewhat higher too.

I chose them since the pictures had the brightest RGB - no RGB means you are instantly fail at gaming.

He's not wrong you know, RGB is used to mesmerise your in-game target so that it stands hypnotised while you frag it mercilessly.

I always go for the K versions due to I have multi PC's and when i upgrade one of them the old parts are then use to upgraded one the other PC's

So at the moment I have 4 PC's with these CPU's

8700k
2500k
4770k
E8500 (Think this one is only dual core)

Am thinking of upgrading another one the PC's in my house and I was wondering if anyone knows if AMD are due to release any new CPU's that will be as fast an Intel i7-8700k cpu ?

Or do I still stick with buying an intel i7-8700k/8086K cpu...

No I mean fast for Gaming...

It doesn't depend on AMD. Ask the game developers when they will fix their games to utilise the hardware AMD gives them.

Here is the thing, AMDs stuff is already more than adequate for gaming - unless you want to limit yourself to near pointless scenarios like running 1080p with a 1080ti at 3 figure frame rates just cos...

Still dont understand why folk worship the 8700k, its needs a delid and runs hot as buggery and with questionable security with no futureproofing while the likes of the 2700 are not far behind in crap old games with poorly coded engine only while running a didy resolution something like a 1080ti or other high end card would be embarrassed about squirting out.

So plonk the Core i7 4770K in the one attached to the TV??

Replace the Core i7 4770K with a Ryzen 7 2700X,and then replace the E8500 with the Core i5 2500K??

That way you are mega futureproofed for the next 12 months?? :p

I have it on my pump, memory and motherboard because I demand the best. Improved my K: D ratio in Cities Skylines by 0.15.

Wow,how can I ever compete with this RGBness!?

It depends on the game though - sadly companies like Bethesda Game Studios, seem to have a wait and not bother approach to game bugs and things like optimisation! :(

How dare thee smight the almighty Intel! HEATHEN! BURN HIM!

I have seen the light, and it looks like 28 cores using north of 1kw with a massive 1Hp cooler.
This is truly the work of god, all hail intel.
That what happening with AMD & Intel

Instead of improving there cpu cores it looks like there just going stick 100 cores together and then say here your faster cpu and who ever can throw the most cores on wins…:(

Wait! Only those who make the ultimate sacrifice will be recognised as true believers... though shalt taketh a blade and decapitate your CPU, committing its warranty to the fiery depths of hell. Though shalt then taketh molten metal and cast it far and wide across the surface of the die. Only then will you feel true exaltation in the light of the almighty one.

That is improving, if they can keep the TDP under control :) Total GFLOPs from moar coars is immense, so now it's up to developers to work out algorithms that thread better.

Consoles are helping. Eight weak cores is now a common platform and it's starting to show in the latest games. It's shown for a while in productivity :)

But... as said above, for games that will never benefit from many-threaded coding, I suspect the 8700K is the best we'll see for a while. Which is a bit sad. I'd love to see a choice of 6ghz i3 or 5ghz i5 or 4.5ghz i7.

The servers demand more cores. AMD gives them more cores in less power consumption and in much less space.
We are lucky to get the byproduct of the servers and supercomputers progress.

I summon forth thee, Fiery Hound
Sharp Fanged, black coated and red of ear.

Be thou consecrated and imbued, with the hallowing might of our Gods.

Beltain is one heck of a ceremony.
