Is anyone happy with F1?

I believe the current ruleset means that unless all the teams agree or there is a clear safety consideration then the rules can't be changed within a certain timeframe, maybe even two years?

The rules can't be changed in season unless there's agreement or safety grounds. They can be clarified, which is what happens most of the time.

But for each new year the FIA have free reign. They could say that all F1 cars must be powered by potato batteries, have 8 seats, and 9 wheels if they wanted. But they don't, because they are too scared of the teams, or are influenced to much by them. The sport is goverend by the FIA and they alone write the rules, but vocal team bosses and threats to leave the sport mean the FIA just pander to (certain) teams requests far to easily.

Over the last few years it has just been one thing after another. Have watched F1 for as long as I can remember. This has been the first season where I switched off and completely forgot it was still going. It has become very forgettable.

Seems that the race threads have gotten a lot quieter here too.

Hopefully it can pick up again.

When the rules are the same for several years then generally one team maximises their car to get the best out of the rules and any gains any team makes are measured in milliseconds. IMO F1 needs a 'reset' every few years to even out the field.

At massive cost to all teams. People scream out for budget caps to "even things out" and then want the rules changing every couple of years, the mind boggles! :D

forget about the "reset" every few seasons - just ban Newey from designing another F1 car :D

(Exactly the same as a reset, and racing would immediately become a lot more interesting)

That will only work when Newey retires or gets foiled by the FIA's rules for that season (latter is highly unlikely though)

You seem to be "blaming" Newey a lot? he's hardly a one man team.

And its not like he's unbeatable either. He spent a decade not winning anything.

Agreed he's not a one man team, but that decade was a different era where the ideas could not be as quickly matched with computational power and swifter manufacturing / testing.

He has also won with three seperate teams and once he left (and the rules changed significantly) you can see how the team he left dropped performance wise a notable amount while the team he joined took a step forward.

Im not sure whether you mean ten years altogether or at the begenning of his career (when he had to make a name for himself to start with). Also a case of building a team around him to make use of those talents.

As above - its only VERY recently that there has been that much technology available to really benefit. Only in the last handful of years have full sized wind tunnels started to be used. Whether Newey came along at exactly the right time for his talents to be maximized or his knowledge /experience showed the requirements for this or a bit fo both.

I would be much happier with a lot less aero effect in F1, but until that happens (or until Newey wants to go build boats or something else) he willc ontinue to get the nth degree out of hte rules at the time.

McLaren won in 2008, and should have won in 2007, after Newey left them having won nothing.

1999 to 2010. And if there hadn't been the 2009 rules shift, would RBR have even won anything recently?

RBR are tiny compared to McLaren

Full size wind tunnel testing is banned.

Rather than wishing that the talented guys leave to slow them down, why don't you wish that the other teams would pick the game up and catch them up? Do we really want an F1 where the top people are sacrificed because we don't like them winning to much?

Newey is good, probably the best, but its not like the other teams are manned by vaugly trained apes with crayons. Newey can be beaten. You make it sound like Newey should be blamed for single handedly ruining F1?
