Is Discord now the "killer" voip program?

Use Discord for BF1 playing with OcUK lot, can't complain too much it does quite a lot. Have some sound issues at times but nothing too abd.

I'm surprised Valve haven't acquired one of these companies and integrated voice chat into the Steam client. One thing I love about PlayStation is how easy everything is when it comes to gaming with your mates.

Granted a lot of games do VoIP quite well out of the box but you don't get so much flexibility.

Steam does have a voice chat. I use it every day.

I really like Discord. Works well and you have the added functionality of logging in via a browser while "working" so you can still chat and what not.

It's definitely the best. I know a lot of people on here are of the older generation and have grown up or come into Teamspeak/Mumble and even Raidcall as their norms, but in 10 years time they won't be around I think and it'll be Discord + it's competitors.

Do they have an API to allow

I would agree with that.

Teamspeak will be too fiddly for the kids of the iphone generation.

In this day and age though, there is no reason why anything should look like TS3.

Design and function can be integrated in this day and age.

Yeah I must admit I'm surprised teamspeak have stuck with their layout a new front end and a freemium hosting option would damage Discord and slack.

They've let the market run away from them.

I know nothing of the TS dev team but from what I have seen from them over the years, I imagine they were just a bunch of kids who setup a business and have little business sense unfortunately.

Shame really it's a damn good system but qol is pretty poor.

Shame it's not open source it'd already have a new UI and improvements.

Mumble has the best audio quality of the lot especially if your server admin maxes it out above the default it comes with (although obviously requires more bandwidth from the users). Discord is best for general chat as you can talk via text. Most of the time I don't want to be in voice if I am not playing a game but I still want to be in contact with my gaming friends. Mumble has a much better permission system compared to Discord as well so if you are running a large gaming organisation Mumble is probably the better choice.

You can run an unlimited slot Mumble server for $5 a month. Seems like a good deal to me. But I still use Discord daily it is just what all my gaming friends use.

Discord is running away with it.

I prefer Mumble and Teamspeak but their UI's compared to Discord are just poor, despite being functional. People expect more nowadays I guess and have been spoilt by phone apps. Both Mumble and TS are too "busy" for the average user.

If Discord had a "self host" option, it would clear house.
