Is HyperThreading worth the extra £80?

It's easy when reading around to fall under the impression that an i5, at some point, won't be able to do something or run something as its lacks HT.

Obviously this isn't the case. The 3570K is a very powerful quad core processor and just as "future proof". All software has to be able run on it, and all the processors that came before it, and all AMD chips.

The logic is there on the chip just disabled by Intel to make an i5 - only they know why. Oh yes it's so they can make people pay 50% more for an i7!

The K processors, both i5 and i7, lack some obsure features (hopefully we'll never need) that Intel choose to leave enabled in the other models (the cheaper ones!). We're OK with this though.

Perhaps HT just helps with the eternal quest to own the "best".
A false hope in that 3770K is obviously not the fastest, and I would argue the 3570K is the best in value for money terms.
In any case the crown passes every year, as SB owners have found this weekend.

Well I cracked and chnaged my order to an I7 3770K....I dont upgrade very much so want it to last and would kick myself if games started to use the extra threads more!

Smart move IMO, although it doesn't really matter at the moment unless you have multiple displays and cards. Most people keep CPU's for 2-3 years and the last thing you want is a new game next year that may use it. It probably won't be a huge issue until next consoles come out.
