Is it acceptable for men to drink wine in pubs?

a lot of men drink wine mate so I wouldn't worry about it...Just tell people your intouch with your feminine side...My female mate has just read this and burst out laughing, so yes it is NOT acceptable to drink wine in a pub, at home yes, but pub no lol

I really don't see why everyone is being so childish. To be honest the OP shouldn't need to ask the question, he should just go into a pub/bar/club and order what he wants to drink, be it wine, alcopops, shorts, beer, cider etc.

Wine from the pub in general (unless you go to some decent gastropubs in London) is rubbish so I'd tend to keep away from it - but I'm a snob and have rather high standards. If you're with a girl and you split a bottle people don't think anything of it... I don't really see the problem with drinking wine in a pub or winebar, some people are too focused on how they look around other instead of being individuals. Peer pressure's a funny thing.

Lol @ looking manly, if that's why you go to the pub then I feel sorry for you. Besides if you can pull off looking manly with a wine glass if you're enough of a a man ;)

For a variety of reasons I've gone right off beer (and cider) right now so am looking for an alternative to drink and was thinking about wine, but it just feels wrong. Is it just my paranoia or would I really look completely ridiculous drinking a glass of wine when all my friends have pints?

What other acceptable man drinks are there?

Only if you order the whole bottle and drink it straight without a glass!

Hmm not many pubs have a good selection of wines.

I'd look at bar that have a more cosmo feel with a restaurant attached. The selection of wines would be much better.

It could be you're going off pubs.. next it'll be slippers and a pipe! :p

Have you tried other beers like Inns & Gunn ?

lol@whiskey and coke/water :D
It's not actually uncommon or a bad thing to add water to a single malt, it can soften the effect of the alcohol and allow you to taste some of the flavours that would be otherwise slightly hidden.

It's down to personal taste, give it a try, you may be pleasantly surprised :)

Coke on the other hand is unforgivable :p

Believe me, I went off pubs a long time ago - I'd much rather be at home with my pipe and slippers. However tomorrow night will be a celebration of sorts and I've been told in no uncertain terms that it's "compulsory" :(

You need coke to help mask the taste of JD in an attempt to make it drinkable.

You do not drink Whisky with coke. If you do it is either blended (AKA bathwater) or Malt (AKA sacrilege).

Real men drink good whisky neat or with ice. Putting coke in anything good should get you shot.

Drinking wine in pubs is kind of OK if it is good wine and you are in the company of a lady.

Out with the lads? Lager, ale with soil in it are the only allowable drinks as even good spirits are a little gay on a proper lads night out.

Anyone who thinks it's sad for a man to drink a glass of wine in a pub needs to seriously get a life. I personally don't drink much beer at all and much prefer wine and spirits.

Many times I have drunk wine in a pub! Explain to me what's un-acceptable about this...

I could say that I think that men with fat beer bellys drinking beer at the bar are un-acceptable!
