Is it acceptable to be on your mobile while at a check out in a supermarket.

Personally I would continue to shop there whilst collecting larger and larger mobile phones to use at the till, while shouting...

"HELLO?"

"NO, I'M AT THE CHECKOUT"

"YES, THE ONE WITH THE ATTRACTIVE CHECK OUT SERVER"

"YOU'RE BREAKING UP"

"NO, I SAID YOU'RE BREAKING UP - I HAVEN'T ASKED HER FOR A ****"

You get the picture.

I have spoken less in my entire life to people in the supermarket than arnold schwarzenegger spoke during terminator 1.

In case you are wondering here it is

Nice night for a walk.
Nothing clean, right.
Your clothes, give them to me.
The 12 gauge auto-loader.
The 45 long slide with laser sighting.
Phase plasma rifle in 40-watt range.
The Uzi 9mm.
All.
Wrong.

Sarah Connor.

I'm a friend of Sarah Connor. I was told that she's here.
Can I see her please? Where is she?
I'll be back.

**** you, *******

Give me your address there.

Get out.

If you're working on a checkout and someone not saying hello to you makes or breaks your day you should find a new job.

Also, if someone on a checkout was rude to me for being on my phone I'd go and speak to the manager to let them know I think their service is bad.

Just been told off for taking a call while at a checkout in my local Aldi's, a carton of eggs are sitting there waiting to be scanned and the young girl at the till glares at me with her hands in the air and says rather aggressively "do ya want a be served or wot?" I said "excuse me whats the problem?" and she starts ranting that I shouldn't be on the phone while at a checkout.

A quick google threw this up,

So to sum up do you think it's acceptable to use your mobile while at a checkout?

If the person at the checkout was chatting to someone else besides you, how does that feel to you?

Personally its completely ****ing rude. But we live in a society where people no longer give a **** about anything. So we shouldn't be surprised.

You and lowrider really do come across as being total social ******s at times.

Didn't you or don't you deliver things for a living? Dam delivery monkeys.
I don't work.

I'm HFA so hate conversation anyway, it is incredibly awkward feeling for me even at the best of times so forced conversation at a checkout is bad for my anxiety.
Individuals with HFA exhibit deficits in areas of communication, emotion recognition and expression, and social interaction
Self service when possible please!
Sometimes I actively avoid shops without self service :|

I really don't care what you have, but calling someone a till monkey is out of order. What do you go about calling say the people who collect your bins?

What a lovely person you are.
Any more jobs you want to have a go at like dustbin men or road cleaners?

He was criticising a job, not the people doing it.

You are wrong when you refer to "dustbin men" and "road cleaners" as jobs. They are people, not jobs.

EXACTLY, you made my point.

Like I said, any more jobs he wants to have a go at and demean the people who do them?

Wut?
So what jobs do these people do?

Rude, particularly as most people on a mobile think they need to shout so everybody else has to hear them droning on

Having worked many retails jobs...

Is it rude? Depends. If somebody is on the phone but acknowledges me and/or apologizes, then that's absolutely fine. Obviously social / non-urgent call and no acknowledgment at all? Rude as all hell! I still wouldn't be rude in return, but don't expect any niceties. I'll sometimes just leave their stuff sitting there when the transaction is finished - just so they have to break off the call and say "can I have a bag?" :)
