Is it acceptable to let

It's annoying but its entirely possible it wasn't by choice.

If the dog decides to squat and release, what's he to do? And he did pick it up afterwards. Chances are they were on their way somewhere, rather than choosing to crap on gardens.

Think i'd be annoyed too,

Different thing entirely, but I have 2 gates to my drive way, which a lot of the time, I leave open, especially I've I'm just off to the shops, I've noticed a few times that one gate is almost always closed when I return, to cut the story short, I found outs it's an old women who's doing it, just so she can walk on the flat part of the curb, I've been thinking of getting some anti theft paint to stop her, that or tar lol

Sorry for the highjack

Your gates open on to the pavement?

What's he to do? Not let the dog walk on peoples' gardens. Dogs poo, that's a fact, so don't risk them dropping a load on peoples' lawns by keeping adequate control of fido.

i can understand the hate from someone who had a cat crap on his lawn, however,
if it was my cat and you so much as looked at it the wrong way id be on your doorstep wiv me m8's bro...

I broke up a Cat fight only last night. :p

Got new neighbours 2 up with a new cat so there's some Territorial wars going on at the mo. Theres 6 houses backing onto 6 houses so 12 gardens with about 8 cats amongst them. My Frank staffy dog just stands at the gate looking at them with a What the **** look on his face. :D

They **** on my lawn as well which is my Runway for my bike, I'd never do owt more than Shoooo them off though, I do a Hiss thing. :p

You think it does not because you live there. Your guests will probably be too polite to mention it but the chances are your house does smell of dog. Its a bit like smokers who go outside for a cigarette and come inside thinking they left the smell outside. Meanwhile everyone they walk past thinks "dayuuum you stink!" :p

I'm very house proud, it does not smell. Then again I do have Whippets which are not a 'smelly' breed :p.

How many times do we hear this and then said dog goes and rips someones face off? The owner response is usually along the lines of " he has never done that before, you must have done something to make him do it!".

Well no - dogs are animals and therefore unpredictable and dangerous. Even the most well behaved dog can be loving and friendly for years and then flip like a switch in a second and attack.

True, most dogs do not do this, but all are capable of it. It is why I hate owner complacency with comments like "my dog is not dangerous".

I agree somewhat, yes they are animals and therefore their behaviour is sometimes unpredictable. However, a good and responsible owner will be familiar with their dogs 'usual' behaviour and how they react in different situations. A dog is only dangerous with an irresponsible owner.

And run some voltage through it.

Make sure it is a metal fence first though. Normal wooden ones struggle with voltage ;)

However, for those with cat issues, an easier way to deter them is to acquire some lion dung and use it for compost on your garden (so I have been told).

Alternatively there are reasonably priced electronic emitters that create a sound unpleasant for cats so they wont come into your garden. My nan used one of these on her veg garden and it worked well.

What's the dog doing on someone's lawn in the first place? If it's out, it should be on a lead. If it's on a lead, it shouldn't be in a garden.

My dog is NEVER allowed on people's front gardens, it just doesn't happen, let alone banging a turd out on one.

The offence is below, its basically an offence to not clear it up, not for the dog to poo. From what I remember from work, reasonable could be the dog had explosive diarrhea, I have seen someone complain about that and the dog owner did try but in this case it could prove impossible to remove.

(1)If a dog defecates at any time on designated land and a person who is in charge of the dog at that time fails to remove the faeces from the land forthwith, that person shall be guilty of an offence unless—
(a)he has a reasonable excuse for failing to do so; or
(b)the owner, occupier or other person or authority having control of the land has consented (generally or specifically) to his failing to do so.
(2)A person who is guilty of an offence under this section shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 3 on the standard scale.
(3)Nothing in this section applies to a person registered as a blind person in a register compiled under section 29 of the M1National Assistance Act 1948.
(4)For the purposes of this section—
(a)a person who habitually has a dog in his possession shall be taken to be in charge of the dog at any time unless at that time some other person is in charge of the dog;
(b)placing the faeces in a receptacle on the land which is provided for the purpose, or for the disposal of waste, shall be a sufficient removal from the land; and
(c)being unaware of the defecation (whether by reason of not being in the vicinity or otherwise), or not having a device for or other suitable means of removing the faeces, shall not be a reasonable excuse for failing to remove the faeces.

For God's sake if you are so upset get a fence.

Dog doesn't know it's your garden does it?

I try to keep my dog off other's gardens but sometimes she strays on while on the long lead.

Rarely poos in gardens though but would not accept someone ranting at me if she did as I always lift.

With all due respect, you are not trying hard enough. As the owner you should be in complete control of your animal whilst in a public place - particularly if it is in the street of a residential area.

The dog 'straying' onto someones garden is only achievable if you let it by not keeping it close to heel on it's lead.

If you struggle to maintain control with a longer lead, then buy a shorter one ;)
