Is it pointless starting WoW now?

Never too late.Due to the fast nature of levelling you'll be 80 in no time.Having said that, levelling on your own via questing can be a lonely experience.A lot of existing players have alts that they want to level as quickly as possible and do so via the random dungeon grouping system. The community also sucks hard on a lot of realms, with immature idiots being..well,idiots :D

Ignore them and get into a good social levelling guild though and all will be well.

It is easy to get to 80 nowadays but I still enjoy playing (played from release) and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for an enjoyable mmo experience (apart from the aforementioned lack of community)

if you want one WITH a community, and a very friendly one at that, try city of heroes.

Don't. Not because it's too late but because the game is total rubbish since the first expansion. Nothing new and all same boring crap over and over again, same recolored sets and same grinding and more grinding and then after you've done all your grinding, next month you'll grind again coz they recolor the old sets, add 5% more stats and you need to grind those again.

WoW is such a repetitive and boring game nowadays ....
Wish they removed arenas, bgs and brought back the old good world pvp where you could actually feel that epic feeling of the game and the adventure.

Have to agree with PhoenixUK. You will spend months getting to level 80 and getting decent enough gear to raid in only for your gear to become out of date and having to do it all again every few months. Just for that slighty better gear then the last set that took you many hours to get. People often mistake this for content, when all i can see is your doing the same thing over and over again. It wouldnt be so bad if they made the gear hard to get but they dont.

Even the pvp aspect of the game is the same sort of system.

Wow plays on people with the need for e peen even more so now with the achivmeants and mods like gear score.

But on the plus side the first time you do it 1-80 is pretty fun, more so if you have some friends to play with and you do all the instances.

I remember when the WoW came out how great and epic it felt at the start, the leveling, exploring the new lands, world pvp everywhere was lot of fun, battle for hillsbard foothills, EPL/WPL/ tyrs hand pvp. First Zul'gurub/bwl/mc runs. PVP rank grind was enormous and you had to become nolifer to get r13-14 but then at least not everyone had it and when someone managed it he was like a celebrity and feared amongst the server. Epic 20hr lasting AV fights were great as well.

Every patch brought something new and exciting and the whole game felt epic and great and then ... the expansion came out.

The epic and full of adventure look got replaced with shiney "from the future" stuff, everyone and his grandpa had the same newest set and looked exactly the same and all epic battles and experience was replaced by grind every 2-3months as new seasons came out with same gear that you had some time ago just with different texture and colour and 5% more stats.

Flying mounts and arena killed world pvp and all there is to WoW now is to grind the newest recolored set every 2-3months.

Maybe they could make WoW 2 ? Knowing blizzard and how they like to make sequels without saying a single word about it I wouldn't be suprised if in a year time, few months after cataclysm they would announce new mmo coming out.

See how they didn't say a word about SC2 or D3 for many years and then suddenly at some point they pop on E3 straight with beta and half finished game to be released in a year or so time.

Such a crappy game with 15 million subscribers. Damn, I wonder why people don't play games from the 80s anymore.

it's not 15milion and if you've actually done a bit of research, half of their subscribers are from asia ... which probably ends up with around 3 milion being chinese bots and gold sellers.

Never too late to start, get it tomorrow, level up fast enough and join a raiding guild and you will find in a few months you will have exactly the same quality of character as someone who has been playing a few years, minus all the pointless distractions (see: achievements).

Plus expansions are gear resets anyway and one is due in several months; even better timing.

Im not into all the raids etc yet for me doing 1-80 with my m8 is fun and im enjoying it. only 61 now and no doubt it will take me sometime to get to 80.

Every arena season is a gear reset lol, don't need to wait untill expansion.

Would wait if i were you, a lot of peeps gonna be playing for the expansion, including a thread on here somewhere. Might be worthwhile getting a feel for the current game so you can say wow to all the changes. Dont worry about gear changes, if you get to 80 (a couple of months for your first run through unless youre playing every day) then it all starts again anyway as you try to gear up.

The game is a lot of fun - until it isnt, which is when you stop playing it. There are so many haters of wow, some of them on this thread, who quite frankly are way too invested in a game they dont like. When you get bored, stop playing. Just go away and do something else. Its not terribly difficult.

As usual in WoW threads, haters gonna hate. Especially when the Rose Tinted glasses with the Nostalgia Perfecto 'On Use' feature equipped.

Still love the game, nothing I don't enjoy and always the time to join the game.

no disrespect.. but... here comes the disrespect :) - try other MMOs they are infact better.

This, especially if you're in any kind of PVP which in WoW doesn't exist since first expansion.

And then if you're into PVE, I haven't played most of those games but I suppose stuff like FF or LOTRO would be better there.

Haha he made a hunter, poor guy :s

Heheheh its one of those strange oddities about the MMO genre that 2 classes above all others are generally the widest despised by the general populace. Hunters and Rogues. It almost seems that no matter which MMO you go to people dont like people playing whatever the Archer class is or whatever the Rogue class is in that game :)

Dont get me wrong I love playing the hunter and especially the rogue class! but the rep they get is aweful makes end game such a pain! And yes it is a shame they're pretty much considered a step above gold sellers.
