Is it pointless starting WoW now?

I tried lotro found it totally utter pants but thats my opinion. But then im a hunter in wow so despised by all lol. I cant help it I wanted a pet :D

I'm inclined to say that if you're going to start WoW, wait till the next expansion comes out before you do as it'll change a lot of things about.

+1.

It's never too late to start playing, there are still lots of lower level players about.

Like Jokester said, I'd wait for the new expansion pack, it's going to change things and you might enjoy it more :)

There's nothing wrong with starting now as you will still enjoy it, but after watching the new starting zones (worgen, goblin) I would say wait as they look fantastic.

For the people who say there's no pvp in wow are completly wrong. WoW is the most competitive mmo and no other stands close to it. WoW is one of the most widely watched pvp game on the internet.

DEFO dude..I mean, its like saying is it worth buying the old 3 series bmw just before they start rolling out a newer version...i mean theres better stuff still to come...that star wars one is getting me all raging already!

Help me... help me... I've just bid on a copy of WotLK... I don't even own any WoW products!

Edit: It's going crazy! Just bid on a battlechest now, when will it end? I don't even like WoW!

Do I?

This, especially if you're in any kind of PVP which in WoW doesn't exist since first expansion.

And then if you're into PVE, I haven't played most of those games but I suppose stuff like FF or LOTRO would be better there.

This is so ignorant its hilarious.

no disrespect.. but... here comes the disrespect :) - try other MMOs they are infact better.

I like that you say fact, when this is such an opinionated post. I have played a lot of MMOs and have found none (in my opinion) to be equal or better than World of Warcraft.

Forgive me if I am wrong, but there are very few other MMORPGs that host PvP tournaments where one can win real money if you win at a competitive level, WoW is successful for various reasons, but as I have stated haters will indeed hate with their nostalgia perfecto rose-tinted glasses. WoW is not perfect, WoW has never been perfect, WoW will never be perfect. Neither is any other MMO.

its not to late to spend over £100 a year on subscribing to a soulsucking cartoony game that has more grind then an axeman.

so go ahead.

lol wut... if tic tac toe extreme had 11/9 million subscribers you would see extreme ca$h prizes, as the advertising revenue from a captive 9 million people pays alone for any token prize.

trying to defend the game you clearly love from a middle ground perspective doesn't make you look nuetral just a bit stupid in my opinion..:D

doac is just to old now warhammer online has great rvr, pvp content.

I still dip my toe in wow every now and again to see how things are, although i am really looking forward to the expansion and playing the 1-60 all over again in in areas that i know so well that have been torn apart

I always have been a bit of a alt kind of person

On the contrary, I have no desire/wish to defend WoW. It does that itself quite well I think. I think hating a game and then saying that it's a fact that there are 'better' games out there is beyond the realm of stupidity when 'better' is an opinion. Some people like WoW, some people don't.

Not wanting to move this off-topic, I will once again state to the OP that it is definitely (IMO) worth starting WoW now, experience the old world before it is changed, and then experience the changes.

I've been playing WoW for years, seen everything it has to offer for both pvp and pve content and it's not the same game anymore. It used to be a great innovative mmo experience with superb world, epic adventure and feel to it.

Now it's just an endless grindfest with shiny glooming weapons everywhere, like any other random korean mmo.

And no matter how many subs blizzard says they have, you can clearly see that they've ran out of ideas looong time ago and now are just trying to keep their customers as long as they can. Take a look at the cataclysm, the new worgen and goblin stuff, ITS 5 YEAR OLD SAME MODELS, they don't bring anything new to the game, it's not like a new class or something, just an old texture that's playable as a class now. It's like putting a new skin onto your char with mod and that's about it, well you get silly new racial but that's where it ends.

The only reason for this 2 new factions is to get players to make a new char and get into the grindfest once again so they don't get bored with their mains and won't quit the game. The arena hasn't changed since it's been released, it's one big grind fest to get your recolored glowing weapon that's been in the game already and just got recolored and "HAS NEW STATS".

It is not the game it used to be, it should be renamed to World of Arenacraft or World of Grindcraft and it has no sense anymore.

Hope they make WoW 2 so we can play a great game again for 1-2yrs untill it turns out into moneymaking grindfest again.

Errr....no? Have you ever seen female worgen in game? I sure as hell haven't. As a matter of fact, the pc models of worgen/goblin look nothing like the models we've seen in game since vanilla release.

it's not like a new class or something

We got a new class in WotLK, another one isn't needed for the time being.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't pvp gear receive new (unique I might add) models each season nowadays? This isn't TBC where every season was a repaint of current tier set.

It is not the game it used to be, it should be renamed to World of Arenacraft or World of Grindcraft and it has no sense anymore.

Soon to become World of BGCraft amirite? Saying WoW is more grindy than it used to be is a fallacy as well. Compare the amount of consumables you need for a raid now as compared to vanilla; arena doesn't even come close to the old PvP ranks in terms of time investment required; could go on but I think you get the message.

To answer OP's question: it's never too late, Cataclysm may improve the leveling experience but it's still months off. If you want to get to max level asap now just strike a deal with someone for the Recruit a Friend program and you'll blast througn levels at an amazing speed.

...Endless whining blah blah....

Except that the OP's question was this 'I played it for a few weeks in 2006 or 2007 and for some reason stopped (can't remember why) would you say now is too late to start again and be a newbie in the game?'

And you haven't answered this question. All you've done is complain that a game you've clearly played to death isn't new and shiny any more. For someone who has played the game for 2 weeks 3 years ago there is plenty of good stuff to see and do.

I did, it's not worth it because the game is rubbish now. If you've never played it before, sure, you can get to max lvl, visit few dungeons and then quit because anything above that is pointles. I would consider that as a waste of time so save yourself the trouble and pick different game or just do about anything else in life, go learn a language, go play some sports, go out BUT don't waste your time on this neverending grindfest.

you gotta love the WOW haters.

for an honest assessment, i have just stated 2 new toons on the Earthen Ring server after getting bored of my Hunter/Warlock and OP Mage.

With the new LFG Dungeon and BG system getting a group is easy for content especially if you tank or heal.

I started last month and am enjoying playing, and looking forward to seeing the changes cataclysm will bring. My only gripe is the quests seem a bit grindy, although I'm enjoying tanking using LFD - especially since I haven't tanked before and seem to be doing ok.

you gotta love the WOW haters.

I find both extremes quite amusing, the WoW haters who will take every opportunity to diss WoW and anyone who plays it and also the WoW lovers who take enormous personal offense if anyone dares to criticise their beloved WoW. Both extremes are funny. Those who bear such hatred for a video game and those who take insults to the video game as if someone insulted their mother. All very amusing as at the end of the day its just a video game, nothing more, nothing less. :)
