- Is it possible to be too rich?

i think these folk with millions and billions should be doing a lot more good with their money, but i guess you need to look at where it has come from

if i had worked my ass off to get rich i may be reluctant to give it away so easy.
if i've inherited / windfall / been handed it somehow, i think the perion should thank themselves lucky and use it for good intentions where they can

There is no such thing as being "too rich". If I ever won the lottery or became the massive drumming superstar that I'm destined to be (;) :p) - if I ever felt I had too much money, or felt I could spare a bit of wonga, I would donate a lot to charity.

I agree. It is impossible to be too rich, in sence that you have so much money that you dont know what to spend it on or how to spend it well. I have plans to spend even 100 billion $ right now. That number is within my plans. I bet non on this forum even can figure what to do with number that high or even planed that much to spend...

if i ever found myself too rich ala billionare territory i'd pee lots of money away employing assasination squads to hunt down spammers and the people behind the automated sign up spam accounts on my forum

i'd also drop a few quid on a massive day out for the ocuk forums :)

Me and a couple of friends know exactly what we'd do with that kind of money, and it would be very challenging, but so much fun =D (a very unique/niche business venture ;))

Well I don't know anyone like him on Facebook. He just updates photos of his latest car or house or possession. Constantly bragging and rubbing it in your face about his wealth. His latest update is a photo of a receipt from a meal he had at The Ritz last night. I just don't think its normal ....

He actually took a photo of a receipt? Sounds like a total bellpiece if hes doing it just for bragging rights.

Give us a hint then. I wanna buy Amazon forest. Which at one point in last decade was up for sale by Brazil government.

It involves an island (1 to start with - more if it becomes successful), and no it's nothing illegal/dodgy :p

It's also very hit and miss, and would either make or lose a lot of money, but it would be a good laugh either way XD

A nice 10 acres island you can buy for 1 million $. What you gonna do with the rest? Build a space shuttle lunch tower?

Isn't that therefore having too much money, in that personally you can't spend it all on stuff that you can use, so some has to go to people who can allocate it for you but not actually for your direct benefit - you just get the karma.
You could have 100 F40's, 99 of which are just possessions and never driven, they are cash by another name.

$87K champagne was created for people who can't spend it fast enough, and need people to give them an excuse to impress other shallow people.

Someone said this helps the economy. No it doesn't, this is shuttling money back and forth on pointless tack. I could paint a smily face on a rock and sell it for £10M. Nothing of worth has been created or bought.
Give money to people who can allocate it sensibly then the economy benefits (housing bought, education invested in, research performed).

This girl lives in a self sustaining bubble of pointless consumption, in nature she falls under the term parasite.

@Athanor, dunno, try reading ?

There was a program on telly recently called billionaire girl. And this rich girl Tamarra went to a bar with her mats and ordered 2 or 3 bottles of champaign at 87$k each.

Even if I had over 8 billion $ usa then I would not throw money about like that.

I wonder how rich she must be to get knocked as described.

If I had money like that, I wouldn't be able to spend all of that in a life time, so I would do ridiculous things like that. I'd probably even use money as toilet paper... simply because I can.

There is a big problem with inequality at the moment, some compelling evidence to suggest so.

I have nothing against these rich people whom work hard. I'm sure they work much harder than doctors or cleaners and the other vital workers, and deserve their massive overinflated pays way more.

They dont get their riches without the benefits from the rest of society, and yet some think they are separared from it and somehow superior to everyone else.

Its obvious there is way to many people whom are too rich now. They have no care for their own environment, or anything else just the continuing consumption of more wealth. They give little to nothing back to society. They have become parasites on society.

Too rich?

Hell no. I would be the best kind of rich person. I enjoy giving and would have so many things I could get done with the finances to back me.

I would not blow it on stupid purchases as no matter how rich I could be I will _ALWAYS_ seek value.

I saw that particular show with miss Ecclestone, can't believe it was an attempt not to make her look spoilt and useless lol.

The thing that bothered me about the champagne, if I remember it correctly, is that it wasn't rare or exclusive. I mean if there were only a couple of bottles left I could totally understand but the entire point of champagne they bought was simply to show off.
They, & by they I mean everyone in the club, just wanted everyone else to know that they were wealthy enough to splash out ridiculous amounts of money on a single round.

I don't think I could ever get comfortable spending that kinda money on drink but I've also often wondered what the pressure of conforming might do to me if I were around the super rich constantly.

Yes it is, if I had more money than I needed I'd spend it on others and give to charity and try and help develop the 3rd world. Do you guys really think a flash sports car would make you happier than saving lives?

They do't care and some think of it as a game.

1. Table over there has just had x6 bottles of Bollinger brought over to them held aloft by bar staff.
2. Right, I'm getting in x10 bottles of krystal with fireworks in.
etc etc.

We play games online with other geeks, we show off our nice new fancy cars on the forum, they show off with spending money on Champagne.

Just because you think it's silly spending that on drink, they would think it crazy to waste your time online playing games with online friends and discussing/arguing on the internet.

:)

I would still play games on line like now and chat with people like you who are not rich. But be doing this from the middle of Bermuda whilst on my 150foot yaht, with eyefinity set up and having hot model massage my back.
