is it possible to haggle with insurers?

Maybe there isn't supposed to be a blacklist but there is

Even the guy from Virgin media told me the last person ripped them off so I need to put down a deposit. I've lived here for 4 years so they must keep a record of it and so will other company's

The thing is you can phone up any company like sky, Virgin, gas, electric and pretend your someone else and get there services installed. So they probably now keep a record of it all

Al you can do it play them off one other or i guess you could look at just beening a named driver. that normally cheaper. Direct line i think will let you earn no claims

That would only be if you were "financially linked" with them, some credit agencies if there has been suspected credit fraud from munltiple names at a single adress will "link" anyone at the adress, this is why you need to get a copy of your credit file from the 3 major companies and check for people you are linked with, if they have linked you with previous tenants/residents then you can use notice of disassociation to get these links removed.

When a company credit checks you they can only see your details and those of others linked with you, you can't credit check an adress only a person. So get hold of your credit reports and find out who or what you are being linked with which is hindering your credit.

Plus i imagine theres a difference between Virgin Media blacklisting an address due to previous issues by another customer and other companies blacklisting to the same issue.

I got an insurance quote at £260 FC for the Cooper when I was ringing around. When I said the best quote I received to date was £180, they asked me to hold for a couple minutes then got back to me with a price of £156.

Their first quote normally includes every extra under the sun, such as breakdown, legal cover, personal accident etc. which bumps up the price a considerable amount. So you should always query it.

Haggled with my current insurers, they moved by £160 on their initial renewal quote.

Unfortunately for them though, they couldnt beat the quote from my soon to be new insurers and would not budge further.

Then again, wanting over £200 more than my policy last year was only ever going to lose them my business!??!

I suspect they were counting on me renewing automatically and not bothering to shop around.....

Last years policy £340 F/C :)

Renewal £542! (with no claims during the policy):mad::mad::mad:

New policy £280 F/C

More expensive than mine

Yes, I noticed your post!!

The joys of living in the South West instead of North Staffordshire? - my insurance did jump markedly when I moved to Leek, strange really, ST13 postcode, my previous was ST5 and living in a large urban area, Leek is a rural market town.....

Add to that my age and profession (although some insurers deem me a higher risk because I drive for a living!!) I think it's safe to say your doing well there matey!! :)

Sorry but this is rubbish, if your credit rating is good enough for you to have secured a mortgage then a 0% credit card is a trivial walk in the park unless you've already defaulted on said mortgage or something!

Or if you've taken all credit available to you in your current circumstances..

I went through Admiral and Adrian Flux for my renewal this year.

I've been pleased with Admiral's service and after a haggle, they gave a good quote for 3 cars (in comparison to AF's offering from different providers), business miles for my wife, breakdown on 2 cars, limited miles (6000) on the GTV and a stage 1 map on the 9-5. 0 points and 0 accidents for last 3 years between us.

It really helped changing jobs closer to home and reducing my mileage on the application.

When I renewed I found that I could only get a reasonable deal if I had ridiculous excess. Fully Comp was £650 but with a £500 excess, so I opted for 3rd Party at £600 with a £250 excess instead. I find the idea of paying £500 because some moron emergancy brakes in front of me or something sickening.

Oh and they had the cheek to offer me 'excess protection' where you pay £50 more to lower your excess by a few hundred in the event of an accident or something..

Fo my car it's just not worth it (MG ZS with battered bodywork), no excess made the quotes shoot up to £750-800.

That doesnt explain why More Than quoted me lol money to renew my policy with them and then refused to budge an inch when I told them they were quoting more than double that of their competitors?

Because you no longer meet the demographic they are aiming for. If they decide that a certain type of driver is causing them a higher than average cost, they will not be competitive so you leave and go somewhere else.

Either you pay the inflated price, and they cover the risk through higher premiums, or you leave and they lose what they deem is a high risk account.

This is what I was told by a chap who used to work in insurance, so may not be accurate anymore though!

That's about right. Insurers will price themselves out of the market if you aren't their target audience. Whether it be, vehicle, age, area, driving history etc.

For example if I went and got a quote from an over 50's insurer, it'd be about 200% more in price cause I'd get a load on the premium due to my DOB.

That's not how it works. If someone crashes into you, you claim from their insurance and don't pay an excess as it's their fault. You only pay the excess if it's your fault (or possibly with fire/theft as other insurers aren't involved), so really all you've done is remove the option of claiming for an accident if you crash into someone/a tree.

Managed to get it down to £109 x 10 with my current insurance. This week I'm going to ring everyone I can find on Google

One question I have thought, I got my provisional when I was 17 but didn't start my lessons till I was 25 and pasted straight away, I rang a company for a quote two days ago and they said that when they ask how long I've had my licence for it starts when I got my provisional. Is it the same for all company's? Don't want to say that and then they void my insurance if i have a crash

Can you haggle? Asbolutely!

I bashed in my details via confused and the meerkat and then waited for the normal run of the mill phonecalls. Whenever I got one I said id just been on the phone to X company and they had offered it at X price. Can they beat it (oh and dont go through the messaround of re-giving all the details, they know the info already) and if not, im not interested.

ended up getting my premium from ~800 down to ~500, fully comp, 100 quid excess.
