Kind of repeating what everyone else has said, but programming languages are like a big box of tools: it doesn't actually take that long to find out, say, what a coping saw is and the theory of using it, but to do it well, you have to actually use it a lot.

Get an internship/apprenticeship/whatever you want to call it at a software house. Plenty of them are willing to take on and teach in a real environment, doing real work etc. etc. The stuff you'll learn from it is invaluable.
