Is it worth going over 144Hz?

I've never owned a high refresh rate monitor. All of mine are 60Hz. I want to get two new cheap 1080p monitors and thought I might as well get high-refresh ones that are also Gsync compatible.

I was thinking of two of these:

Does that sound reasonable?

The high refresh rate helps when gaming especially in fast paced games like shoot em ups , it will be smoother.

Monitors look fine but check reviews

What's your usage?
Primarily gaming but also programming.
Might aswell get this one, same price, faster refresh, and atleast AOC have a history in monitors - unlike Coolermaster.

Thank you!
Have you considered a single larger monitor? Maybe 27” at 1440p would give you a better experience for games unless you specifically need the second screen for anything.
I have thought about it but I'm so used to having multiple monitors I'm not sure I'd cope with one big one.

Which games do you play? And how good are your eyes? I'm nearing 60 and anything over 100 Hz is wasted on me.

Having multiple large monitors is really good. If you have the budget you might consider two 27" or 32" 4k monitors, one gaming and one non-gaming (like my Lenovo). I have them stacked one above the other, with a 24" 4k monitor in portrait mode to the side. You can always run your gaming 4k monitor at 1080p for more demanding games.

I upgraded to a 240Hz monitor, and its great for CS GO etc..defiantly worth the extra £££ for one.

What made it "defiantly" worth hundreds more? What did you upgrade from?

There have been numerous tests over the years and even pro players for the most part see no improvement going to 240hz in their stats.

I upgraded from a 43" 4K 144Hz monitor, to a Samsung curved 32" 1440p monitor and the smoothness in comparison in my eye, is much better.

Framerate could have potentially played a part there as you went from 4k to 1440p.

I've used 1080p monitors from 60hz right up to 360hz for competitive FPS. The massive difference is 60 > 144, after that the difference is tiny, it didn't feel much better at all, only very slight improvements to how smooth it felt.

The differences get much smaller the higher refresh rate you go. It's why from 30fps to 60fps feels huge, whereas 120 fps to 240 fps is barely noticeable, despite both being double the framerate.

Code:
 1/30 = 0.0333333333333333
 1/60 = 0.0166666666666667
 1/75 = 0.0133333333333333
1/120 = 0.0083333333333333
1/144 = 0.0069444444444444
1/240 = 0.0041666666666667
1/360 = 0.0027777777777778

Thank you all. I'll try and respond to everyone.

The games I normally play are old RTS games like Command and Conquer and Supreme Commander as well as modern games like the Total War: Warhammer series.

As for two 27" 4k monitors, I could do that and run games in 1080p but then I'd need a new desk I think. I'd need to get the tape measure out.

For an £139 each you can get 100hz 1440p 27" monitor not sure how good they are so check reviews .

If you're only playing single player it is literally pointless to have anything above 60hz/fps... So you might as well cap your fps in game/driver settings and enjoy having the eye candy as cranked as your gpu will go.
Then for mp set it to the max your new monitor can do :)

That's what I do, means I'm not stressing my hardware out as much/less heat/less fanspin (if at all) and uses WAY less electric so you can play for longer without worrying about some silly 1kw psu'ed system eating your rip off electricity tariff!
