is it worth having 2 consoles?

If you can afford it and have the time to play, sure get all 3, but for a lot of people the third console will be a waste of money.

I dunno how true that is. I play the games on what console they come to. In Having all 3 I could play Zeldas, MGS's and Whatever comes to 360 next.

Also, I could buy the multi-platform games on the console they appear best on.

As well as having the advantages each has, Like Live, Bluray and Party fun.

I still see this like I saw last Gen.

Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube, Were all needed in order to play all the games available.

And I would have hated to miss out on playing the likes of Res Evil 4 on gamecube, as it stomps on the PS2 version. I would have hated to miss Fable on the Xbox and ofcourse the MGS and Final Fantasy games on the PS2.

Obviously it all comes down to money, and investment in the end.

But to not own one, Would definitely mean you're losing out somewhere.

I think the other deciding factor is time and money.

If you're not finding the time to play many 360 games, then how are you going to fit in playing PS3 as well?

Likewise if your monthly budget doesn't stretch to a couple of new titles every month, then how is it gonna stretch to more on another console?

~J~ wins the sensible award. :)

I've got an Xbox 360 and Wii. I only find the time for about 6-8 hours gaming a week and thus my Wii is gathering a lot of dust at the moment. Even having two consoles for me at the moment is overkill.

However, there's a lot of people on here with more free time and who can easily get the most out of all three consoles.

hi

i have a xbox360 elite which i love but i dont play it every day, my question is with the ps3 games it looks like there going to improve this year so would it be worth getting a ps3 as well?

cheers

im in a similar position except its the other way around. XBOX 360s including decent games (Mass Effect etc) are going for £200 in MM all the time. I can easily afford it but like has been said dunno if i would have the time to play all the games....i'm tempted though.. and im crap at resisting temptation :( :D

Similar situation, kind of. I have 2 consoles, (360 and ps3) and whilst I used to have time to play them daily, I don't these days.

BUT I am loathed to get rid of one as I don't want to miss out on decent exclusive games. So I am at the point where I own both and buy stuff on both platforms, but if I did not have money I would not be able to justify this really.

So, my solution is have both, as long as the cost of owning maintaining both does not break your bank balance and you can afford it comfortably. At the end of the day games consoles are luxuries not necessities, so don't do anything short term which you will only end up selling and making a loss in a couple of months down the line etc.

I will answer your uncharted question (seeing as you keep asking!!) I don't know of any games coming out on 360 (or ps3) this year that are similar to Uncharted (I don't even think Bioshock is similar to be honest as it is more FPSish than Uncharted). Having said that there is a lot of new IPs on 360 and PS3 this year, and I don't know about a lot of them so it could be some of them are a similar type of gameplay as Uncharted. Plus you wouldn't know that till the game was released anyway (as to whether it was any good, there have been loads of stinkers hyped up recently that turn out to be so so games, Bioshock being one imo).

Unless you are into Blu-Ray (which is the clear winner over HD-DVD now so is a format you can buy with confidence imo) and know of more than 1 game to play on the ps3 you would be crazy to buy one. I have money, but I would never buy a console fo a single game or feature tbh (unless I had a lot moe money, and a bit less sense :D ).

Tomb Raider: Legend is similar to Uncharted, though inferior obviously.

I'm playing through both of them at the moment..

The new Tomb Raider Underworld looks like it could be a good contender to Uncharted (360 and PS3) and should be coming end of the year.

I've considered a 2nd console for a while now but I keep thinking if anything I want to play less games and read more, listen to more music, diversify.

Could it just be a case of shiny new toy syndrome (hits us all).

I have an XBox360, PS3, Wii, DS, PS2, XBox, Dreamcast, N64, Megadrive, SNES & 2 PCs and a Laptop. More is definitely better, as your moods and tastes vary you have more options. :D

doesnt it mean your tastes become more shallow? Relying on an instant fix/attraction of the game? Basically because you just dont have the time to get into a game with depth? (many games > one in depth game syndrome)

Some games on the pc take a bit getting into but i wouldnt have it any other way and i wish there were more simulation type games made.

however even i am seduced by the instant fix of jumping into bf2142 for a quick fix rather than play some of The Witcher, Oblivion or FFXII..

i think im rambling now....:D

Got a SNES, N64, PS2, Xbox, Wii & Xbox 360 under the telly here :)
If you've got a use for both, by all means. If you're only buying for something that 'might' happen, then avoid. I use all my consoles, some more than others, and wouldn't want to dispose of any of them. Equally though, I've built this collection up over the course of quite a long time, and buying all the current generation now would be IMHO rather expensive.

I've also got a very powerful PC, that gets used for some stuff as well, probably more than the consoles in the grand scheme of things. This is the only thing that there is no way I could do without- 3.5tb of 'stuff' ;) is well worth having!

I'd say get both if you can afford it.

I hesitated on the ps3 for months, finally got one last week with unchartered. If thats not a system seller i don't know what is, its the best game i've played since Mafia on the PC. And i've played all the 360 top titles, most of which are brilliant, like bioshock, dead rising, halo 3, orange box, but unchartered is in a league of its own.

I also think the live aspect of ps3 is under rated, for a free service its great, and you don't need to spend any more money to go live, its all in the console.

and GT5 and MGS4 to come, things are looking good at last on the ps3.

I find it completely the opposite, when I'm in the mood for quick gratification gaming I have the option, If I want something with a bit more depth (ala The Witcher) I have the option, if I want some retro cheese I have the option. My gaming preferences go in cycles and I am able to satisfy them pretty much as required.

Yes, it is worth having two consoles.

For example you should always have two xbox360s incase one of them breaks down and you want to continue playing on it.

For a serious answer i will just repeat what other people have said on here, it all comes down to time money and the desire to play games which you can't have on your current console.

wouldn't be without at least 2 rival formats, its annoying it has to be this way cost wise but IMHO your seriously limiting yourself to some great games by sticking to one format.

Swap Wii and PS3 and I agree with you. The PS3 lacks differentiation from the 360 imo.
