Is it worth switching from Hotmalil to Gmail?

100% worth it

The spam filter is awesome, interface is better, loads up quicker

Spam... what's this "spam" you speak of?

I've been with gmail for over two years and I've only ever noticed one spam message. I still have hotmail accounts for various things that require live id's and I find it almost a chore to use compared to gmail. It's definitely worth the switch... what other email service lets you play snake for crying out glavin?

The only email account I've had where I never got any spam was MobileMe. I only used my Gmail for Google Wave and a week later was getting fake Facebook requests etc.

Anyone got any reasons that i should stay with hotmail or why i should switch to gmail?

Dude, you're like 5 years overdue. You should have switched to Gmail while it was in the invite beta like everyone else. Why anyone still uses Hotmail is beyond my comprehension.

I would switch... but going onto all the websites and changing the email address that account is registered with sounds like a pain!

Why not just use two e-mail addresses at once? It's not like you'll need to close your hotmail account down just because you've signed up for gmail. It's a free (and excellent) service so sign up and see what it's like, personally I'd recommend it.

Good grief i hope that was a joke

It's not, for older people especially Hotmail has strong associations with spam regardless of how much they've progressed since then. Heck I'm only early 20s and I still remember a time when every spam e-mail seemed to come from hotmail. Some places still actively block e-mails from there also simply for that reason.

Well in the real (corporate) world where i work it hasn't effected my chances when looking for work. People looking through CV's in major companies tend to be more sensible and not judge people by what email address they use! I would go as far as saying that if someone is going to judge my CV because i use a hotmail account then the whole outfit is a joke and i'd rather not work for them

Just switch, set up a Gmail account and forward your other email to it whilst you switch over.

I did this with my Yahoo email about a year ago, I keep meaning to turn off the forwarder but it's been so long now they've locked my account login. Actually, the only spam I get is stuff sent to my old Yahoo account, but Gmail filters it effectively so it's all good.

Depends what the username is though IMO. We have loads of contractors working for us, and [email protected] etc is just fine.

Just occasionally we'll get someone start for us with an email like [email protected] or [email protected], these people get mocked mercilessly and usually don't end up working for us long.

On a more serious note, it doesn't look very professional if a contractor sends in emails from a retarded sounding address and they get forwarded/replied to customers/clients, it makes the company look jokey and amateurish.

Just do it.

Create GMail account
Use GMail to manage Hotmail account

No need to change existing contact details
No need to go back to the horrible Hotmail interface
Use all the benefits of GMail

Great success.
