Seems like it .he hasn't showed up at the world cup at all. Offers no leadership whatsoever and hasn't adapted his game and keeps trying to do things as if his 21

For me his done. The decline begins and definetly Ronaldo is a far better player then Messi

Was just posting on this topic in the other thread.

Whatever the reasoning - whether he just doesn't care or doesn't feel onboard with the team/manager or whatever something ain't working there.

I get the impression he isn't comfortable with the way he is being used strategically and supported by the rest of the squad and has zero confidence in the rest of the team - the few times he laid it off to other players to work into a better position they lost the ball easily often to basic errors which has to impact his confidence in what is going on and willingness to exert himself (generally including leadership, etc.).

I don't think he is ever going to be one giving leadership though on a game at that level he just isn't that type and in that respect he will never be as great as some who can inspire their team broadly.

TBH I think the failings we are seeing at the moment are purely managerial - far too one dimensional, possibly driven by ideology without the willing to be pragmatic and so not getting the best out of what they do have to work with against the opponents they do have to play and I think Messi knows it and has just given up rather than him being a primadonna, etc.

Don't think he's finished, Ronaldo had about 6 months of the season where he was nowhere near his best and it all came back to him in the end and now through the WC.

Unfortunately for Messi, looks like this phase has come at the worst time possible.

I dont think he is finished, didnt he just score something like 34 goals in 34 games this season? I think age is catching him up though, thing with Messi is that many of his goals come from open play, having to work to make something happen etc, whereas in Ronaldos case more of his goals come from deadball situations, I think that as players enter the last years of their careers deadball skills are less affected than open play. Hence Ronaldo will go on beyond Messi.

Having said that, if I was building a team and could only have either Ronaldo at his peak or Messi at his peak, I'd take Messi every time, at his peak he was damned near unstoppable no matter how many defenders you lined up against him.

lol

the problem with argentina is they have crap managers. who don't play a system or formation which suits their players.

should be aguero and higuian up top. messi behind them.

di maria shouldn't be getting a look in over higuain.

Well just look at all the changes the manager made at half time..........oh no, hang on

Put Guardiola/Klopp/Simeone in as manager and they would be competing with the best.

When you start looking to guys like Maradonna to fix your managerial woes you know the management is bad. Their tactics and training must be akin to junior football currently and it shows on the pitch.

Unfortunately for Guardiola, you cant spend a billion to improve the national squad.

are you kidding me?

they have a squad better than most.

2 players from man city, a player from man utd, a chelsea player, 2 juve, 1 barca, 2 psg, 1 milan and mascherano.

dyabala - aguero - higuian - messi

scoring shouldn't be an issue.

Top scorer in Europe in the season finished only a month ago, now he's finished after two games. Barcelona also continue to demonstrate how poor they are when he doesn't play.

Argentina, every player looked awful. That starts with the manager who also was rubbish in qualifying (Messi got them to the World Cup may I add)

The brain of the average football supporter is baffling.

You sound like a massive Messi fan tbh.

He's right though, football fans are ridiculous. You don't go from European golden shoe winner to finished in the space of a few world cup games. Sure, he's probably never quite reproduced his club form at international level, but that doesn't mean he's not one of the best players I've seen in my lifetime.

I don't see why people have to take sides between Ronaldo and Messi, surely just enjoy watching two brilliant footballers?

How dare you ! Football is tribal ! You must worship your shirt and despise everyone in the opposing teams shirt, but then not despise the same person if he wears your national shirt ! RAAAR..Damn you, throwing about your sensible logic...makes me mad !!! *tears up stadium chair and starts rampaging with a vuvuzela*
