Is money for a GPU such a bad birthday/Christmas list?

If its what you want and will make you happy it's not harming anyone so there's no problem in my eyes!

No.

It's what you want.
Also what is most of use to you.

Although i like simple personal things, the reality is those presents endup taking space. So i’m more inclined to ask for a specific useful thing. My birthday pressie yesterday was a signal generator.
The wife will do the same (cricut) but often will leave it to me to think up something she will find useful.

Retailers are not helping by thrusting Christmas in our faces since September.

If you go to mainland Europe, you see very few Christmas things in shops. If they can do this, why can’t the UK? Went to Amsterdam about this time of year about 18 years ago and only saw a few decorations. Yet their main day is 6th Dec.

I find having Christmas in our faces from Sept makes the day itself a damp squib

My daughter is 15 and she just prefers money. It was recently her birthday and we just gave her several hundred notes and took her to Lincoln for the day so she could go shopping. Absolutely loved it.

Bought her some really nice Adidas Superstars for Christmas and she had a massive sulk on her face. She wanted Nikes. No wonder this country is going down the pan!

:edit: didn't realise OP was actually an adult. :o

I used to be grateful for whatever I got as a kid, even though it might not have been something I wanted.

I'll have your 970 as a birthday present to upgrade from my gtx 660 if this is how you want to play it.

Nothing wrong with money then you can spend it on whatever you like.
It'll likely be on the MM soon™ ;)

A friend is also looking to give us his 1080 in December, so hopefully there will be 2 970s on there soon
