is nobody bothered anymore? (trades people / companies)

Come on mate, IT Geeks expecting £100 per hour to switch it off and back on again.

Nice one. :p

Lol, a running joke but so apt.

Reminds of the old trope of a plumber being called out to fix a faulty boiler. He pulls out a spanner, whacks the boiler with it and charges the bemused home owner £100. "£100 for hitting it with a spanner", cried the home owner. The plumber replied "it's not the hitting it I am charging for, it's knowing where to hit it".

Speaking of boilers, just had the old "heating on when water on" valve problem.

Call BG homecare yesterday afternoon, guy turns up this morning and fixes.

Stick to big companies I guess?

Repair and servicing work is relatively easy to find companies to cover, the issue is new install work in my experience.

Are you vulnerable or something? My experiences with BG homecare, call them and document problem - yes sir we'll be out in 3 weeks and then we won't have the part so we'll come back in another 3 weeks after that.

well I nearly fell off my chair this morning. Painter is coming round tomorrow to look at the job

I've no idea what will happen if he actually turns up, probably pass out
Only coming to look, probably bored or wants to see if your house has anything worth stealing.

That was a serious offer. £3.75k 'best price'.

Doesn't include materials though ;)

I'm already supplying the paint, there's a lot of prep work though.....like, a lot

The sills need to be flawless, no brush marks....no runs or drips, and no sheen patches on the walls

In that case, I bet your final quote (should you actually get one) will be closer to my figure than yours.
