Is Plex still a thing?

I've decided I'm going to stop using the TBS 6904 in Plex. It's never worked properly, issues with tuning channels and the Raspberry Pi Plex builds don't have live TV like that. I originally decided to get it when I moved away from Sky because of the rising costs and thought it would be a good way to get FreeSat to some of the older TV's without running RG6 cable to every room.
All I can suggest is that other options, with much better support for things like IPTV exist, such as Emby or JellyFin, you can also pass content via TV Headend.

I went back to Sky Stream and use Plex for home media streaming, I have recently found some of the Plex Live TV channels quite interesting.

Sky might be expensive, I just make the most of the Sky Rewards and save as much through that and try to get as much back through that as I can.

Thanks all, I often put the Plex TV stuff on when I go to bed and fall asleep listening to how the universe was made (or similar)

Are they rolling it out platform by platform so they work out the bugs on each before moving on?

I can't remember the last time I saw my phone or a tv update the plex app. Am I just missing these or do they do it in the back ground?
You'd hope so, but not always. My Hisense VIDAA based TV didn't update Plex in the background for years, andanually going into the app store and comparing version numbers showed a massive difference. It's still an 'in case of emergency' option compared to something like a HTPC or ATV4K.

I really don't like just how slow the Plex app is becoming on loading my library and just navigating on my 65inch LGC8. I get it's older now as I bought it in 2018/19 but my LGC2 is much faster. You'd think the processing power of the C8 would handle a little app like plex

I've found the initial startup is heavily affected by network speed. I recently ran a cable to my old potato LCD tv that has 2.4GHz wifi and 100Mbps ethernet - night & day difference to the startup time.

Mine starts up fine it's just so slow and annoying trying to navigate the menus when you're trying to select a film. Maybe I'll try and factory reset the whole thing

Have you tried hard wiring the TV rather than using the wifi and allowed for drive spin up time? It's moving lots of small files to load the library art/info etc. and 7.2K drives tend to take longer to physically spin up than 5.4K or SSD.

I ditched the built in apps on my LG C9 a while ago. Got an Apple TV, best thing I ever did. Everything works very smoothly and quickly.

Been a plex pass holder for 10+ years now, I think it was $99 when I bough it, server is now in its 4th case and 5th CPU in that time, I run it on unraid via docker, Worth every penny spent on it! Saved me a fortune in Sky/Netflix/general streaming costs.

Been planning to get something like a Shield Pro for a while. I just don't like buying stuff that does something I can already do just a bit faster. I have never and would never buy an apple product.

Isn't that the same with any streaming service though? Seems like a strange reason to five up on something like plex.

If you're even slightly open to the idea of trying again I would recommend it; Plex has made some seemingly mindless choices in recent years but they have also improved the general app experience immensely.
