Is RTS still a thing?

Haven't played any games on my PC in years. I think the last game I properly invested myself in was DayZ, the mod, not the game. Been looking at some old videos and remember my younger days loving RTS games. Warcraft, Starcraft, Red Alert, Dune 2000, Dark Reign, and others. Absolutely loved these titles. Are they still a thing? I'd love to find one that meets similar criteria of building a massive army and facerolling the bad guys :D

Anyone know of any? Cheers!

All the usual.

Total Annihilation - Old but still the best
Forged Alliance, Supreme Commander - Great game with plenty of mods
Supreme Commander 2 - Good with Mods
Ashes of the Singularity.

Whats the closest game to C&C Red alert? Base building etc?

Exactly what I'd like to know. Farming resources, defending your base whilst you build up an army and eventually wrecking the enemy was one of the most fun times I've had in games. Maybe I'm suffering from rose tinted goggles, dunno. Gotta be worth a shot though :)

Thanks for the reply @Breeze , I'll be sure to check those out.

Yep brings me back to my teens, loved C&C so much think red alert 3 was when I stopped playing.
I was really excited when EA was bring back C&C and then later on was gutted they cancelled it :(

My favourite RTS games were C&C Generals + Zero hour and Supreme commander forged alliance. RTS games like these two seem to have died with the most common probably been starcraft 2 which is too much button bashing and spamming imo

Supreme Commander 2 was prett awful- dumbed down for the console gamers, the first one was much better.

Absolutely agree. The zoomed in nature, dumbed down resource system....gah.... I don't know if it was specifically done for the console gamers or if they tried to reach a wider audience by simplifying the game play, but it was damned annoying.

There are/were mods that sorted that out last time I played it (many years ago). SC2 is all about mods. If you don't want to use them don't bother with it.

Starcraft 2 is still going strong,
Company of Heroes 1 and 2,
The new Warhammer 40k is out shortly also.

Ashes of the singularity is pretty rad, although multi-player can be tough to get a match. Grey goo is also good fun.

If you can sacrifice base building, total war warhammer is a fantastic RTS mixed with a campaign map. Definitely my fav RTS right now

The big plus of C&C is that it has no unit limit. Games like Starcraft and Grey Goo have hard caps on the total units, but in C&C, if I want to build 1000 tanks, I can.
