Is RTS still a thing?

Is there anyone else out there who remembers K240 on the Amiga from around 1994? :D That was probably my first RTS, and my word it was a lot to ask of the hardware at the time; but there's a lot to be said for getting into a 1 fps battle with two massive fleets of sprite-ships all firing lasers at each other :)

(Running on a 2mb Amiga, very few games ended with either victory or defeat, most ended at the memory limit when it crashed with a guru error. Many years later, you can run an emulator with far more memory and the game is faster and more stable than on its native hardware! Wouldn't be shocked if a modern mobile phone could emulate it faster than my A1200 ever ran...)

((Yes I'm old.))

Coh 1 I enjoy the most not a fan of rts like starcraft feels like you will never compete without ridiculously sharp good micro skills feels like a test of who has the best micro more than strat

starcraft remastered can't wait :)
Definitely. I never played the original or BW so this will be a fantastic opportunity to try.

Always wanted to but the graphics were somewhat of a barrier. When you grow up with those graphics, it's fine, but when you get used to modern games, playing something that's a pixel party is a bit nauseating.

yea same with warcraft 3 people say its awesome but i can't play it without thinking the gfx suck and not being able to control more than 9 on 1 hot key is a killer

I hadn't noticed they'd released a demo, thanks for the info :)

I've had a go at the demo now and while I get what the reviews were saying about the pad-centric controls it's not too
bad to play with mouse and keyboard.

I'm not sure I like the game that much though, having played RTS games for decades it's just not in the same league as some of the games I grew up with :(

I've recently just finished red alert 2. Still a great rts. I'm going to start yuri revenge aswell. I've loved aged of mythology and age of empires 3.

I still have emporer battle for dune. That was another fav rts I've played over the years. Wonder if it still works on win10.

I enjoyed dark colony aswell but that's very dated now.

Some others I've enjoyed over the years

Battle for middle earth
Empire earth
Warcraft 1 , 2 and 3

I loved the battle for middle earth games, they were games you could play and time seemed to fly over.

I remember me and a few friends got them at the same time during the Christmas holidays from uni, it might have been BFME 2. Started playing on Christmas Eve then the next thing my mum was shouting me that my Christmas dinner was ready.

I also remember playing the star wars one, we called a truce at the start so we could build our armies, then after 2 hours we sent them across the map to meet. :( My friends dial up disconnected and the game ended.

I have been keeping an eye on Forged Battalion. Its made by some of the people behind the original command and conquer games.

I still enjoy playing C&C3. The Starcraft games never really grabbed me because of their artificial limits.

Been playing COH 1 both campaign and skirmish (tried online against other players and lasted about 15 mins and got totally owned so I don't bother with that anymore) since it came out god knows when. I always seem to gravitate back to it when I have time to spare, rangers and airborne are the way to go with this game (in US campaign anyway). Also love the dialogue, still has me in stitches occasionally.

They Are Billions and Halo Wars 2.

I just picked up the Ultimate Edition of Halo Wars 2 for 30 quid and I'm having a blast. I was a huge Generals fan and this is the first RTS to have the same sort of feeling. Granted, the base building limitations are disappointing, but it makes up for it in lots of other ways. The cut scenes remind me of the original C&C games and the graphics and effects are what I imagined Generals 2 was going to be.

Definitely worth checking out

C&C and TA needs a revival, a proper remake of either would get my money, Ashes is just tripe, its just a silly tech demo, boring and drab, Starcraft is ok but it never felt epic to me ans multiplayer is just a RTS version of a twitch shooter, no finesse.
