Is the DSi completely pointless?

Really not worth getting a DSi at all. With such a huge user base developers won't want to alienate their core market so there won't be any DSi only games in the foreseeable future, only certain tacky DSi only features.

Get your son another DSLite :)

This thread is full of bullcrap.

DSi is much improved. Better screen and the buttons feel much nicer. Also the stylus is improved. The whole build quility just seems better.

It has much improved internal specs which means it could handle much more advanced games. It doesnt yet, but that doesnt mean it wont.

There are also features such as hot swapping which make it improve slightly, and all these things combined make it far better.

Then theres the software downloadable such as games and opera browser.

Don't think my son would notice any of the changes, but he did keep going on about it having a camera lol.

Whats the browser like, I saw a video earlier on a gaming site which said it was pretty poor?

whats the chances of niintendo releasing such software that would alienate 100 million ds users? i dont think we'll see anything significant any time soon, not mainstream games anyway.

Neither did the DS Lite though, and it sold fantastically.

Who mentioned sales?

We're talking about value for money when deciding between a DSL and DSi. The DSi will always sell well in the long run as Nintendo don't make the DSL any more.

Well the high sales to me would indicate that many people were willing to absolve the price increase for a marginally better product.

It's probably the best portable browser I've used, (putting aside high end phones). it's tons better than the PSP browser. Basically put it's what you'd expect for a handheld.

I use Facebook/MSN and browse news feeds on it and they load up moderately quick.

I'd go and try a DSi before you buy one, if he isn't bothered about GBA games then I'd consider it as it's a very good upgrade imo as I love mine. but if he still plays GB games and guitar Hero then I wouldn't consider it.

Many people moaning it's not worth it simply have not tried it really. It's like going from a PSP slim to 3000.

Not many differences but a nicer screen, tactile buttons etc (wont go into it too much as I'll start a flame war) but as he is only 8 I'd recommend the lite.

That's probably a good idea.

I guess he could always use his old Lite to play his old games. It still works - just has some damage to the top left corner of the bottom screen.

Have to see what sort of price I can get one for....£149 still makes me go 'eep!' lol

That's a daft comment to make. I've used one for about 3 hours as my brother has one.

It's much more like going from an iPod Touch G1 to a G2.

The DSi does have a point. To try and stop the use of flashcards by forcing people to keep updating the firmware on newer games (like the PSP) and at the same time blocking known flashcards at that time. Does that answer your question?

Why are people saying the DS Lite offered nothing over the DS? The improvements in size, appearance and screen brightness were well worth it.

If the DSiWare thing takes off, the DSi might be worth a punt, but until then I'll be sticking with my DS Lite.

Well what I'm saying is their isn't much difference, but the small differences make it more enjoyable. It was probably a bad comparison but as stated it's a nice upgrade if you can afford it.

btw you can get a DSi new for £135, thats probably the cheapest I've found it for, I'd go and try it and see if he wants it as an upgrade though.

The Camera is quite good quality for what it'll be used for, just fun photo's and I guess their will be games coming out he can use with it, however it's not really for me to say if their will be anything coming out.

I'm hoping their will be DSi games as N have reported that DSi has been a success in NA atleast.
