Is the MX5 the new Mondeo?

Oh dear!

Back on topic:

As has been covered many many many times, there is nothing "better" than the MX5 that can be had for a similar budget.

Again covered: You can't compare a Mondeo and an MX5 - they're leagues apart.

Hurf for Mod.

The two cars aren't being compared in anything but how often they are recommended on here. Some people pointed out that it was simply due to lower tier members following certain members unquestioning, where as its quite clear this is false as both cars are recommended, sometimes to an even further extent, on other forums based not on the top tier members recommending them, but on the cars merits.

Answering Mondeo or MX-5 is the easy solution to a lot of the queries that get posted in motors. While they may not be the perfect car suggestion for everyone they do have a broad enough appeal to match a wide range of situations.
There many times where a poster may not give enough detail of their exact requirements, so as a result people will fall back to the tried and true recommendations.

However broad their usefulness is, I'm fairly certain that most people know they are not the be all and end all solution for everybody.
While I drive an MX-5, and I would recommend that everyone takes one out for a drive, I'd not recommend one as the best choice for everyone as a daily drive.

I'm starting to quite like the MX5 after seeing this thread, I know it rains a lot in the UK, so I guess it's worth getting one with a decent roof.

Half the ads I see refer to a 'recent new hood' and I'm never really sure if this is the bonnet or roof. :/

Anyone know if the roofs/hoods need replacing at all on these?
I feel some suspensions lingering.

The hoods are very good and can last 100k+ from what I have heard, the problem comes from them getting slashed or other issues, one tear and its all over.
GOtcha, I've been looking on PH and ebay and even though there are many that are 100K+, only the odd one claims to have had a replacement roof.

There are others, however, which feature roofs that have been fixed/bodged with gaffer tape, I think I'll give these ones a wide berth...

If you live any where near Swansea, Jacksmith trimmers do a hood which is as good as an official Mazda one, fully fitted, for £180ish (although I hear the price has gone up since people started coming from all over the country for them) There are all sorts of ways a hood can get damaged, condition of the hood may not be so telling as condition of the rest of the car.

If anything I have had nothing but inundated requests for my sources of such small yet effective gifs that represent the feeling of the top tier posters in a thread, so succinctly, so well so perfectly. One would have thought I could get some reasoning behind this moderation but I do not hold out hope, instead I shall bide my time until I am elected moderator, and finally we see some kind of sense, democracy and top tier posting amongst the leadership here in motors.

The gifs can be amusing at times but you slate my posting and follow on with that elitist drivel, I read it and I find myself shaking my head, I wonder if anyone is willing to go out drinking with you or would you just bang on all night about how you're the besterest on the internets and would like to be a moderator on a forum so you can influence some kind of imaginary circle of l33t posters, seriously, read it back and realise what you are saying, its epic cheese.

You are on a real losing streak if this is you saying "you are a bigger nerd than me" over an internet forum.

During most of the elite crew meet up's I don't think the forum was even discussed so your argument is invalid.

That doesnt make sense as I never claimed to be any type of nerd in my post, posting on a forum about overclocking PCs you have have that assumption naturally

I'd love to turn up to an "Elite Crew" meet, i'd wheel spin up to the area where you're parked with pumping phat beats bruv and get out of my Corolla which i'll ensure is the dirtiest its ever been whilst dressed in a hoody and track suit bottoms and try to start a discussion on flamer kits and leave my Mcdonalds wrappers on the floor when you ignore me and I have to take the 5 hour drive home because these meets are always down south

Anyway i'm off out to the real world now, the one outside your windows and doors, if you go out be careful, theres people!

That's kind of the point I was making dawg.

Fox already behaves like this only he does it in a fairly decent car (one of his parents BMW's), we don't need some one coming down and copying his annoying habits only in an embarrassingly poor choice of car.

Let get back on topic please peeps. :)

Sorry, I did take it that way by trying to be as informative about MX5's as I could be but relentlesslybad96 has to constantly post badly every time he posts otherwise something terrible must happen, I see no other reason why he posts the level of dross he does. Once I am mod I will deal with that kind of thing, until that day, there is not much else I can do!

Back on topic

I think the MX5 has been recommended on PH for a lot longer than it has here

The MX5 is not "The New Mondeo" it merely fits the requirements of many who are after RWD & fun roof-down handling.

I doubt many MX5 recommendations will be forthcoming in a "Spec me a family car" thread.

hurfdurf, change the record mate, I think the one thing you guarantee with your campaign is that you won't ever be a mod.

thread delivers.

Reading about the roof thing hurf is right that it will last 100k+ miles. It was just annoying when we had one that once we reached 100k+ miles some little ****** decided to retire the roof for us with his knife. So we sold the car.

Alas the most fun car my parents have ever owned and ever shall own.

Why did you find the need to sell the car?

Well after the roof had been slashed, the leaking began that winter, and my dad (getting older) decided he wanted to get rid and have a more practical car for his commutes and travelling to meetings (which could be up to 600mile trips on motorways) so not the best in an mx5.

So we got a pug 307 1.6D after -_-
