Is the PSP going the same way as the Dreamcast?

lol now cite its competition and rate the competitor console on the same features/

The ds isn't marketed as being able to do any of that and costs far less. When you pay for a console that is advertised as being able to do these things you expect it to do them well. You rate something on what its designed to do after all.

Looks like yes Sony.

Firmware 2.80 CAN play 480x272 vids without the need of homebrew using the M-JPEG format.

Unfortunatley that format is a joke.

its like 30 quid more than a DS. about the price of one game.

according to the product marketing;

* Dazzling widescreen LCD brings gaming to life
* Plays UMD Movies - New releases of films available on UMD for play through PSP
* Download your MP3, MP4, WAV or ATRAC3Plus music files to your PSP system via the Memory Stick Duo
* Surf the Worldwide Web using the Internet browser whenever you are in an Internet-accessible location
* Store your digital photos, create custom wallpapers and share your favourite photos with the image transfer feature using a Memory Stick Duo

your saying it doesnt do this?

Psp rrp = £150, ds lite rrp =£100 I don't know why your asking me this because I was clearly evaluating how the psp does these things so how could I possibly be saying it doesn't do these things?

Well, I boguht a PSP the other day while working in the states to keep me sane in the evenings.

I absolutely love it. Between Lego Star Wars II, Tekken Resurrection, NFS Carbon & the Gradius Collection (I love gradius!) I managed to while away hours that would have otherwise been spent on my own bored senseless in some hotel bar being talked at by other bored sensless people.

I did look at the DS lite, but the games just werent there for my tastes.

Yay for the PSP I say, it does it for me :)

PSP new from the jungle shop, £135. i am not sure how much the RRP matters, since the suppier should have zero influence over the sell price anyway.. (competition law... etc)

so the PSP does all of the above, the DS does few of the above, at least not without purchasing an upgrade/software (see Opera internet browser) which when added on will make the DS cost roughly the same as the PSP!

i have a DSlite and like it but the PSP does represent good value for money too!

Everyone has different tastes and looks for different things in the console market. I had a DS lite, but I found that i got bored with the games available and the touch screen novelty wore off. I then saw the technically superior games on the PSP and traded in and got one, and I am now very happy.
Not only for the improvement in games, but all the other things I can do with the PSP straight from the box.
