is there an affordable supercar?

well 5 seconds is respectable thats for sure. though against a gtr with granted, a more modern and larger engine that does 60 in 3.5 its a slouch. although gtr's are generally sick and ferrari fast

sweetttt bejesus NSX's still have a lot of value

A 'Vette is probably the most affordabe supercar out there. The engines have been around vor a long time now and are fairly understressed.
After the 'Vette, I'd go with a 911 of some description. They have some issues and some weak spots but they aren't Ferrari money to maintain or run.

Your right :o:eek:

My apologies, but you might want to get off the high horse Mr Reeve.

Seriously though who would do such a thing, it is only the later 911s that have this insane service schedule.

its "right" but is it the right thing to do? im looking for a new car at the moment and the ones with 20k service intervals all seem to have shagged turbos

Ultima GTR's are fantastic but very unreliable which is surprising due to thei agricultural technology - 2 valve per cyl.
911 is a good choice but depending on how much you have to spend, can be expensive to maintain- we are currently £115 +vat per hour.

Also you get it choose what engine to put in so its not as simple as you make it sound :)

what are the requirements for being a supercar?

To my eyes, one of them is "being ludicrously expensive both to buy and to run" so whilst there may be such thing as an affordable high performance car there can be no such thing as an affordable supercar.

I think, ingnoring all over aspects (cost ect), it has to be a combination of power and power to weight ratio. Look at the nsx-r specs posted above - same power as a vecrta vxr, but that isnt a supercar right? lol. To achieve the same power/weight ratio the vxr would have to be pushing 339hp....would it then be a super car?

maybe supwercars should have a power/weight ratio of at least 300?

there can be no such thing as an affordable supercar.

What does this mean?

Of course it can be affordable...otherwise people wouldn't/couldn't have them.

A supercar in my eyes is a ferrari, aston, lambo.

Hypercar is like an slr, lp670, enzo, zonda etc.

This, if its affordable then its not a true supercar. :)

I mean affordable in the sense that the OP asked the question.

To me the performance of a supercar is a given. Anyone can build a quick car. A supercar is about desirability and being unobtainable as much as it is about the performance, it's the kind of car where you'd only ever buy one because you simply have to have it, if your brain had any say in the decision at all then you'd realise that it makes no sense on anything other than an emotional level.

I'm also old enough that I don't really use the term 'Hypercar' though.

20k mile service on a 911? I don't know where you heard that tosh, old diesels were more frequent than that.

997 servicing is every 2 years or 20K miles, which ever comes sonner. 1st is minor, second is major and so on...

The 996s weren't much worse...

Only as unreliable as the guy that put it together, and frankly, since when was a requirement of a supercar, reliability?
