is there an affordable supercar?

Havnt posted in a while but the answer here is a 996 911. They look superb even today with the aerokit, and are pretty cheap to run by all accounts given what they are. OPC service prices are far less than Merc charge for the S-class for example @ £350/minor and ~£500 major. They recommend a yearly check if doing less than ~10k that year which is like £100.

Holdens, Corvettes etc are Muscle Cars not supercars

TBH I think the Corvette in certain guises does a damn good impression of a supercar, if not quite fully earning the right to be called one. You are right though.

A Holden/VX Monaro a supercar? LOL. You're even more correct there!

I'd say, and I'm sure most/all agree, that most 911s are not supercars. To think they are is also a pretty ridiculous notion.

The Honda NSX just outright confuses me.

Who other than a die hard Vauxhall fanboy would consider a Holden Monaro a supercar?! It's a V8 Coupe!

I honestly find it quite amusing somebody is arguing a case for Vauxhall in the same breath as Ferrari..

Simply stating my opinion which I'm perfectly entitled to. :)

Define what a "supercar" is exactly?. I wasn't aware there were certain criteria that officially qualifies a particular car to be called "super". :p

I wouldn't call Corvettes (well, barring the early/late ZR1s) supercars either, they are sports cars - because they are affordable to many people, for one thing.

However, many of them offer supercar performance, without a doubt :)

Even the bog standard C6, with an LS3, does 0-60 in 4.3 seconds, for example - and the earlier base model C5 in 4.7, and so on :)

If you are looking for supercar performance, how about a Lotus Elise or Exige?

exactly - affordable means more than just servicing - tyres - parts - fuel etc etc a Caterham or a Lotus surely fits the bill IMHO!

khushy

PS - those porsche prices include NOTHING - just the time needed to open the bonnet (rear of course) and take a look at whats inside - once you add parts and extra labour you are talking BIG BUCKS!!!

is a porsche 911 a supercar
and a monaro is in no way a supercar!

to me, supercars are things like an F40, F50, Enzo, veyron, diablo, Zonda..
a monaro, pah!
and a 911 is a sports car

supercar performance and supercars themselves are two completely different things

Not when you have a warranty. Brakes and tyres can be expensive but they are reliable cars and when they are not a warranty covers them. Compared to cars of a similar ilk Porsches are good value to run.

Read the thread, the 911 is a car which he specifically asked about on his list.

He's probably spent more than that on a bit of metal for his 23 cameras but twas me who spent that on brakes for me Owwdee I suspect!

It was Rotty, Rotty spent a huge amount on brakes.

Whether the 911 is a supercar or not, and while they are reasonably cheap to buy, the running costs are high.

They really are not, pretty much detailed them above. Generally very reliable cars with fairly cheap and long intervals on the servicing.
