Is this a fair replacement?

I have recently had to RMA my Gigabyte GTX480 SOC (this card).
Got my replacement today, they have sent me a GTx570 OC (this card).

Would this be considered a fair replacement, will the lower memory effect performance?

Have RMA'd directly with Gigabyte

personaly i would say downgrade as they have the same amount of cuda groups just the 570 has less memory but is more power efficent it depends how far it will overclock
 
My original GTX480 was a heavily overclocked card, it was faster than a stock GTX580 in many games.

I have been gaming @ 1920x1200, but I have a pair of Hazro 27" (2560x1440) LED's coming next week.
 
I wouldn't be especially happy with that replacement. VRAM is becoming a factor more and more in modern games. It's certainly not going to help you when you take delivery of your new monitors next week!

IMO they should have supplied you with a 580 which would be more of a 'like for like' swap.
 
you will defo need the extra vram i have 3x470's and are stranggled by the 1.2gb vram at this resolution most games will munch over that at full settings easy even serious sam

I would complain saying you bought the card for the high vram due to wanting to future proof ect. and you may get a 580 out off it

You would be very lucky to get 580, they are giving the OP an upgrade. Not sure vram or how well it overclocks or is factory overclocked is even relevant. At stock the 570 performs better and is an upgrade from standard 470. But there's no harm in trying.
 
I wouldn't be happy myself, but there isn't much you can do about it I'm afraid unless you get a very sympathetic ear from whoever is dealing with your RMA.

Going from past cases from various posts on the matter, Gigabyte are within their rights(and could possibly even say they are being generous if you got it via OCUk's cheap offer last year) to offer you the 570 as a replacement due to depreciation.

I realise it has less vram, but the performance is very similar.

Consumers rights in the UK:

'If a repair or replacement isn’t practical
A trader doesn’t have to offer you a replacement or repair if:
it’s too costly for the trader'

'If this happens, the trader should either:
offer you a partial refund if you return the item (to allow for the use you’ve had from it)
let you keep the item and give you a reduction in price for the fault'

I think the reason Cleeecoo got a 580 as a replacement was because his 480 Soc was faulty on purchase or within a fortnight or so at the time, iirc.
 
Must learn to read. does not change what I posted, it's still slightly faster at stock. Like I said worth a try for sure.
 
lol stock 580 is the goal posts and easy one at that as when you bought the 480 *** was in the same performance bracket as the 580 now

ignore those charts tbh , i had an asus gtx480 @ stock and have tried the kfa2 gtx570 . the 570 was slower , aim for a gtx580 tbh
