I got an email from them the other day saying they had seen my CV and asking if I was interested in working in America doing something relating to my Psychology degree, so I sent them an email back with my CV and a cover letter etc.

They've mailed me back saying they think I would be suitable and we can proceed with the next step of application which looks like a normal app form :-

Ø A one or two page statement from you. Please be sure to include your name at the top of this statement. This statement will be used to place you in the most suitable position for your skills experience and preferences. This should include the following:
o A description of your work experience including specific duties, motivation, philosophy, likes and dislikes, and populations that you have worked with
o Volunteer work
o Special interests, skills, hobbies
o What you have learned through your studies
o Travel experience, desires and motivation for coming to Massachusetts
o Any other information that may be relevant when matching you to a position in Massachusetts

Along with some character reference forms that need to be filled in by people.

But then in the instructions it says they need to be sent back along with: -
Ø Three passport size photographs (with your name on the reverse of each)
Ø Photocopy of drivers license
Ø Photocopy of your criminal background check if you already have one. If you do not have one, this may be requested for certain placements after the interview stage. Criminal Background checks dates more than six months before your interview cannot be accepted.
Ø Photocopy of the page of your passport that contains your personal details
Ø Photocopy of any previous US visas
Ø Prior social security number (if applicable)
Ø Degree transcript. This is available from your university academic office. It may be incomplete for some applicants who are waiting for final results. You will need to keep the original copy of your complete transcript which will be required for the visa application process.
Ø Any letters of recommendation from tutors, employers, members of volunteer organizations. These are better if they are on headed letter paper. Keep the originals for your reference
Ø Copies of certificates, awards, qualifications including degree certificate. GCSE and A-level certificates are not required.

Am i being over cautious, but with them asking for that its making me think this has scam written all over it even if they arent asking for my bank account details (yet). Their website doesnt look the best to be honest, and the forum has people posting on it.

Has anyone ever heard of anything like this before?

It seems too good to be true at the moment.

Anyone got any thoughts about it?

To me, the amount of information they are requesting seems suspicious. Passport scan? Drivers license scan? What kind of legit reason would they request those for, surely they can ask the government for information such as if you're a legal citizen etc?

Avoid. There's no way I would send scans of Passport and drivers license to somebody I wasn't 100% sure about and can't go see in person....or even phone.

And you know the saying: "if it's too good to be true..." etc etc

from a glance it looks like a pyramid scheme, on further reading it seems to be a bit like camp america but for grown ups, they are just a recruitment agency who seem to mostly be trying to get employees from over here, not sure how that makes sense.

Oh and to go in hand with them mainly looking for people over here there should be someone over here you can meet with. They are just a recruitment agency so if you relocate to massachusets and then they can't find you a job, what happens...?

I am overly suspicious these days, but it seems to me that if you supply all those details you are enabling the recipient to pretend to be you and use your personal details for any reason they see wish.

Email them and demand a telephone number to ring. If they say they haven't one then just demand the number of the person emailing you. If they refuse again, cancel all correspondence immediately.

Problem is, if they are a proper scam place, they'll act on the phone as well.

Is there no way to trace the company / agencey?

I emailed them and asked them where he had seen my CV, and he replied saying on Hot Online.
I don't remember putting my CV on there, but Hot Online looks like one of them sites that searches through other sites CV databases too, so it could well have been on there :S
