Is this racist?

Going by that article, this similar joke is also racist.

Q. What do you call a Scottish cloakroom attendant?

A. Angus McCoatup.

"We consider the views of our listeners to be very important and have received no complaints about these comments."

As no listeners have objected it's hard to see how they are considering their views, mind.

How can it be racist, it's simply a play on words...

Indeed. The only way it could be racist is if it was implying that all coat attendants are pakistani, or all pakistani people are coat attendants. Personally I don't think it was meant in that fashion.

LOL exactly...so David old boy needs to brush up on his geography and history methinks:p. Mahatma is Ghandhi i imagine...who was Indian and not pakistani lol.

What you on about? Indian and Pakistani names are often the same depending on specific regions since both countries have the same herritage.

I fail to see the problem. No complaints, and yet a spokeswoman feels that people have been offended.

Sigh.

Why would that make it racist? It's just a joke for ****s sake.

In my opinion grouping people on the grounds of their 'race' is racist. Are you saying jokes can't be racist?

As I said, I don't think that this particular one was racist or meant in that way.

I miss the days when people would laugh at a joke or just take it on the chin.

Now everyone just rings OfCom or something too complain :(
