Is this racist?

unfortunately the following is used in my profession as the definition of a racist incident:

'A racist incident is any incident which is percieved to be racist by the victim or any other person'

which tbh can cover anybody who wanted to make a complaint.

personally if someone has made a complaint about the initial post then they need to get a frackin life!

So there was this Englishman............ ;-)

In my opinion grouping people on the grounds of their 'race' is racist. Are you saying jokes can't be racist?

As I said, I don't think that this particular one was racist or meant in that way.

Surely racism is holding a prejudice against a certain race and acting upon it.

hehe, i thought it was hilarious :D
And not in any way racist, what's racist about the words "Mahatma Coat". Bloody outrageous and he certainly shouldn't have apologised.
And nobody had complained anyway? Just some dumb corporate nobody wetting his pants and saying "OH GOD NO A PAKISTAN REFERENCE GET IT AWAAAAAYYYYY!!!".

Nobody in charge has a spine.

It doesn't quite make sense since I'm guessing the Mahatma part is referencing an Indian guy..

I thought Mahatma was simply an epithet that was given as a term of respect and meant great leader/father (or great soul if Wikipedia is correct).

I don't think the joke is racist, it's just rubbish.

exactly, im at edinburgh uni and no one here would be offended by that atall

That's because they're all English there anyway. ;) And because I'm sure that will get picked up upon, I'm very well aware that isn't true, it's simply a stereotype.

No, it's not racist.

The station didn't even receive any complaints either?

What made it more funny for me is that David Jason told the joke wrong :p

Your right it is supposed to be what do you call an indian (etc)

Is this racist?
What do you call a Scottish person working in a cloakroom?
Angus McCoatup

No.... no it isn't...

edit damn noticed Azagoth did the same joke :p

David Jason is legendary. I totally fail to see how it is racist in any way whatsoever! Bloody ridiculous.

if u ever said that around me you'd get your teeth knocked in, dont ever say that again.

Ahh threatening violence over the internet, you've sure proved you're the big man

No it's not. It is an Indian name just as much as it is a Pakistani name, both countries have the same heritage. It's just because it was Ghandi's name that people seem to think it is exclusively Indian. It is just a Hindu name which can be pakistani or indian.
