Is this wrong? (Grammar)

It's rather obsolete now but some people cling to it rather fervently. If that is the house style then it must be adhered to, though. Personally, I don't use.

Its not obsolete, you still get taught it today if learning to word process, its just most people using the internet today never learnt to type they just picked up their computer and assumed it worked the same as a pen.

I always type emails and documents like that, I always do it on a forum too. But they're always lost in formatting.

Edit: Bah, the forum looks like it edits out unused spaces. What the hell do Tony Williams' posts look like verbatim!?

Actually, it's the browsers HTML renderer that's stripping out multiple whitespace characters. If you need multiple spaces in HTML you need to insert them yourself using - but I don't think that'll work on the forum as it gets encoded.

One space for commas, two for a full stop. Everything was radical and nothing sucked.

e : I've been on this forum for 5 years and never once noticed that the 'extra' space is removed

As above it's just the way it's formatted in HTML, two spaces aren't possible unless you manually insert html encoded spaces.

So I guess when new internet adopters come in and see one, they will only use one.

Surely the solution is simple.

Epicly troll the marker by double spacing every full stop. Except for one. Then challenge them to find it.

In my years of using computers, writing university essays, getting an A-level and degree in Computing, and everything before and after, the only place I've ever heard of double-spacing after a full stop is in OcUK forum threads like this one. It was only a couple of years ago that I realised people do it.

I double space after full stops as this is how I was taught at primary school.

However, my gf, who studied typography at Uni, said this is incorrect. I can't remember the term, but it was something to do with waterfalls. At this point it sounded like nonsense so I stopped listening :D

I was always told to do it for essays in college and university, along with double spacing the lines.

Never did any of it. Wastes paper and looks retarded. Strangely, none of the faculty cared enough to ask me to stop.

As a graphic designer, when using supplied copy, the first thing I do is a find-and-replace for double-spaces.

Totally unnecessary these days.

Bit like you feeling you need to remove them ;)

I was always taught to put two spaces after a full stop (or equivalents like the exclamation and question marks) and I still do. I think it breaks up sentences more clearly, especially when reading on small screens like mobile phones and in weird fonts where there's not much difference between the comma and full stop graphics.

It's also more natural to speech as you should pause for longer after a full stop than you would with a comma or semi-colon.
